aibu to hate how unbelievably pretentious this advert is....
For those who haven't seen it, JA wakes from a nightmare in her first class bed on a Emirates flight panicking she's on a plane without a cocktail bar on board... Only to be mightily relieved when she finds it was only a ghastly dream as there is a bat after all!

Who is this ad aimed at given the price of that kind of ticket is what most people would spend on a car. It just seems like a crass way of her flaunting her millions!

I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things, but it just grates massively!

I thought it was a poke at herself, and made Emirates first class look lovely (will never have the chance to use it though). I laughed.

BadLad · 26/11/2015 15:42

Emirates is a very good airline, although Singapore beats it in every way.

Buxtonstill · 26/11/2015 16:31

I don't drink much or run a car. Flying first class is our 'treat'. If you timed it right, and to the right destination you could fly 1st with Emirates for as little as £3-4K each.
We normally go to a Destination that is served by 4-5 airlines, so is more expensive, but if you fly to somewhere like Kuala Lumpur, the price will be more reasonable, comparatively, as there are 100 airlines fighting for your business. I love every aspect of the service. I could never sleep in Economy, now I get a good rest. It is lovely to have a lie flat bed and duvet, instead of a blanket.
IMO every penny we pay for 1st on Emirates is worth it. We have 'normal jobs' and contrary to what someone jealously posted earlier upthread calling us idiots, each to their own. Your comment said more about you than us. We are on Holiday at the moment, and will be going back to the UK in a few weeks. Going first means the holiday doesn't stop until the chauffeur drops you back at home!

Emirates are a fab airline. When we moved back to the UK after an overseas posting we travelled with them, and had an infant dd1. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. They brought her several toys (we still have a couple many years later!) and let me know they were on hand should I need even the slightest thing - one of the stewardesses took dd1 for a wander when she wouldn't settle (dd1 was 4 months old, wander was up and down our cabin!) letting me eat my dinner in peace rather than jiggle a fractious baby, and reminded each time she passed that I wasn't to rush my food, just take my time and relax as much as possible. I've not had service like it since, despite flying frequently with my (now 3) dc over the past 10 years.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 26/11/2015 19:07

Ooh Buxton - please have a shower on your return flight and report back (but not wishing you horrendous turbulence obviously)

Buxtonstill · 27/11/2015 03:31

I have a shower on every flight, thanks. 'But not wishing you horrendous turbulence obviously'. What a strange thing to say.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 03:47

Emirates Business class is amazing on the A380 - i love the bar.

The A380 is awful. The seats are very narrow, there is absolutely no character to the decor and you feel as if you are in a long hospital ward or the inside of a cigar tube. The bar is nice though and a welcome break from the awfulness of the cabin.

There are far better business or first experiences on other Emirate's flights. Far far better.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 04:05

Well said Buxton!

I think the way to deal with the snide remarks from people who are wearing their jealousy on their sleeve and having a pop is to challenge them head on instead of keeping quiet. But that's not always been the way here and whilst it's not necessary to go as far as winding people up and giving them the middle finger even that can be fun

EchoOfADistantTide · 27/11/2015 04:23

Sansoora, the A380 biz is far better than the B777 biz class.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 04:34

Echo, I think its a very dreary aircraft and in my mind bigger certainly isn't better. The seats are like being in a straight jacket but perhaps thats apt given how we're all supposed to be mad for paying the prices we do for first and business class. Wink

Buxtonstill · 27/11/2015 05:53

I agree with echo, I prefer the 777's for business class! Btw, do you always take the ladies amenity bag? I always ask for the men's one, because it has a razor and shaving foam that I can use on hols to do my legs! And for some strange reason, they don't put deodorant in the ladies bag!

raranah · 27/11/2015 06:05

Lots of you just sound selfish.

I couldn't bring myself to give my money to Dubai and cause all the waste of 1st class travel.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 06:11

Buxton I think Echo is saying she prefers the A380. Its me who prefers the 777. I really don't like the 380 full stop.

I dont normally take the bags because I only board with my handbag otherwise I'd have the kitchen sink with me as well. It means there's no room in my handbag for the amenity bag. Its better for me that way. Grin

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 06:16

I couldn't bring myself to give my money to Dubai and cause all the waste of 1st class travel.

Oh its not just Emirates. Its quite a few different airlines depending on where Im going.

And I think you'll find the waste is the same the length of the aircraft because it takes the same amount of fuel etc and carbon footprint to get you from A to B regardless of where you sit in the plane. Unless you're talking finances and to be frank First and Business is never a waste.

Buxtonstill · 27/11/2015 06:24

Oh Raranah. There's nothing wrong with once in a while looking at something someone else has and being envious fleetingly. I do it myself. But when it manifests itself as snarky little comments and nasty personal remarks it really is a shame. Is that the kind of person you really are?

raranah · 27/11/2015 06:28

Lol its no jealousy, its not supporting régimes that have a very bad human rights record. But hey not all of us care.

Buxtonstill · 27/11/2015 06:33

Yes of course Raranah.

Sansoora, you're right, I got your names muddled. I prefer the A380 for first class, and 777 for business. Dread to think what the new planes they have ordered will look like, the two class A380's.

OneMoreCasualty · 27/11/2015 06:50

Yy Icant - "professional woman does job for going rate" - shocking, apparently.

If no one flew First or Business, economy seats would be a lot more expensive, folks.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 07:02

its not supporting régimes that have a very bad human rights record.

Of course it is.

And you keep on telling yourself just that.

Sansoora · 27/11/2015 07:07

Buxton, Im very rarely on Emirates as I live in another ME country so Im not really up on the Emirates fleet and whats coming soon. I think its all gone a bit mad to be honest and we're a family who's life has been and still is in aviation. I just don't like the huge aircraft be it Airbus or Boeing. I much prefer the smaller and older ones across the board.

Bambambini · 27/11/2015 07:30

Yip, i think the A380 is too big. Only used it once and there were several problems. After sitting in the tarmac for 4 hours, were off loaded till next day. Obviously not a goid introduction to it. Husband flies a lot though and likes it. He doesn't use Emirates though.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 27/11/2015 07:48

Why is that a strange thing to say? I asked a earlier question about what happens if you're in the shower and there's turbulence, you said you were flying first class, I said please let me know, but obviously I'm not wishing you turbulence on your flight.
You've lost me. Hmm

AbbyCadabra · 27/11/2015 08:01

There's a little bench seat in the back of the shower, iirc you are told to sit down if there is turbulence. (No seat belt, though!)

OneMoreCasualty · 27/11/2015 08:02

Assume if turbulence is expected, showers are postponed so it's not a frequent isdue.

BadLad · 27/11/2015 08:11

Sansoora, have you ever flown Singapore Airlines first class?
