aibu to hate how unbelievably pretentious this advert is....
For those who haven't seen it, JA wakes from a nightmare in her first class bed on a Emirates flight panicking she's on a plane without a cocktail bar on board... Only to be mightily relieved when she finds it was only a ghastly dream as there is a bat after all!

Who is this ad aimed at given the price of that kind of ticket is what most people would spend on a car. It just seems like a crass way of her flaunting her millions!

I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things, but it just grates massively!

I can see it's tongue-in-cheek in that she's obviously not actually having a real nightmare... But to me the tongue in cheek is thinly veiled pretentiousness... Emirates are clearly not mocking their first class offer.

Clearly it's got me and others talking about them so it's promotes their brand recognition, so all in all it's a good advert, even if I don't like it! (Maybe it's because I don't really like JA)

Makes a change not to have fat staff as well actually and I say that as a woman who is not even gay or bi.
Hmm not sure why size matters... Do you think this about shop assistants, colleagues etc who you come across?

Etak15 · 25/11/2015 21:25

So how much does it actually cost?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/11/2015 21:26

I stand corrected!!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/11/2015 21:28

Must brush up on my celebrity-endorsement trivia Grin

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 25/11/2015 21:31

I've flown with Emirates several times, never seen a shower or bar. I suspect they don't have them in pleb class. Grin

However I did fly on a massive plane to Dubai with two friends one. Dunno what plane but the one with about seven seats per row in the middle and three or four either side. There cant have been more than 20 people on the whole plane. Was fab!

Strokethefurrywall · 25/11/2015 21:43

Errr, it's constantly on air in the US. In fact, it's bloody on all the time!

And yes, it most certainly does make me want to fly Emirates. I like JA, I like the piss take of it all.

VulcanWoman · 25/11/2015 22:25

Well if the water trickles out of the shower head like it does out of the sink taps, it won't exactly be a power shower. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 25/11/2015 22:40

Does everyone queue up wearing a dressing gown and holding a towel? How many showers are there and do they get cleaned between people? Sounds yuk.

Sparklingbrook · 25/11/2015 22:41

What happens if you are showering and the seatbelt sign comes on? Confused

trufflehunterthebadger · 25/11/2015 22:59

One of my friends lives in abu dhabi and gets several free 1st class flights a year as a perk of her DHs job (oil). Will ask her if she's has had a shower on a plane. She was quite taken with the Emirates experience.

Her 8 year old daughter has only evr flown 1st or club, they had to fly business recently and daughter asked why the menu had not come round yet...

Fortunately friend is one of the kindest, most lovely people there is

Bumshkawahwah · 25/11/2015 23:37

The advert is mocking American and other U.S. based airlines, where even the business class is pretty crummy. I live in Asia and it's amazing how quickly my American friends (some who get business class travel home) go from proclaiming they will only fly American, to flying anything but. First class on Emirates looks amazing...

EchoOfADistantTide · 26/11/2015 04:35

The bar is at the back of business class on the A380 only, the showers are only for first class passengers.

As someone who is absolutely terrified of flying I can say that standing at the bar, canape in hand, waiting for my mojito to be mixed most certainly took the edge off my fear :D

SAdly my next flight will be comedy class :(

Bumshkawahwah · 26/11/2015 05:12

Echo, I think that would help me and my fear of flying immensely Smile

Doublebubblebubble · 26/11/2015 05:33

I dont mind the ad. As an echo to pp she has quite a good sense of humour. Have to say that it certainly looks amazing. The last time i flew emirates was 9 years ago (went to Singapore), we flew economy but I got a first class meal upgrade (score!!) because I was a veggie at the time and they forgot to feed me!!! The staff were absolutely amazing the rest of the flight too. The only thing that gets my goat about the ad is why is she (and others) even doing it, she cant need the money, surely?

Sly Stallone - Warburtons
Arnie and now Nicole Kidman in the meerkat ads
George Clooney/jack black for Nespresso... The list goes on and on...

AbbyCadabra · 26/11/2015 05:45

Of course the showers are cleaned between uses. There are only 12? 15? seats in first class, you book the time you want to use it and it's ready to go. The bathrooms are pretty large and the showers are timed, a light comes on when there's two minutes to go so you can get the suds off before the water stops. Pretty brilliant on a looooonnnng flight. (UK to Australia, feels like forever)

Whatsinaname2011 · 26/11/2015 05:50

It's tongue in cheek. Humour. Funny.

Bloody hell...

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 26/11/2015 06:31

Jennifer Aniston and "great actress" were 4 words I never thought I'd see in one sentence.

I warmed to her when I saw the ad though because her neck was all wrinkly.

What is Nicole Kidman advertising at the mo, then?

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2015 06:33

Booking your shower? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2015 06:38

NK is in adverts with the meerkat puppets whatever they are advertising. But The Muppets are advertising crumpets. Sad

jauntyofarabia · 26/11/2015 07:04

The advert is really cheesy, in terms of annoyance it doesn't have anything on that current Nicole Kidman advert with Etihad. That one is almost as annoying as that Chanel perfume ad she did at Christmas few years ago, I wanted to punch the TV every time that came on! I HATE pretentious perfume adverts but that another thread

I was chatting to some people that work for Etihad the other week and they said she was horrendous to deal with and high maintenance during the filming. It doesn't surprise me I have to say.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 26/11/2015 07:07

I bet the crumpety muppets are a lot less annoying than NK.

Bambambini · 26/11/2015 07:20

JCVD is my favourite actor piss take advert. Loved it.

AbbyCadabra · 26/11/2015 07:33

Yes, you have to book it. Otherwise everyone would want to be in it just before landing. So you pick a time (or two) and it's allocated to you. The shower would be cleaned after the last person in, fresh towels and whatever in there and then they let you know your shower is ready to go at the time you've chosen. Means there's no-one huffing and puffing at the door because they think you're taking too long...

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2015 07:40

I wouldn't fancy it.
