Star Wars vs c-section

Starwarsorbaby · 14/11/2015 12:37

Have nc for this, as dh will want to see results!

Mumsnet jury is needed....

Just got the letter through for my c-section - 17th December. DH wants to see the midnight showing of the new Star Wars movie at midnight, 16th/17th December. I have to go in at 7.30am on the 17th.

AIBU to not really want him to go? I think I'm going to be nervous and want him at home, and we're going to be pretty busy after baby gets here/in hospital all day etc; I think he needs his rest. (we already have young ds1) He is a massive Star Wars fan and is excited about the movie. He's very good at home, massive support and brilliant dad/dh. I (and ds) will, hopefully, be in bed, asleep.

AIBU?

Power to read minds, I have....

Even if you don't think it's a 'stupid' film, it's just a fucking film. It's not a live event, it can be watched any time. I'm baffled by this thread. It's made me thankful though that I have a DP that would rather I had a restful nights sleep before major surgery than go out till 3am the night before. It's just basic consideration for someone you love. And if the OP was completely happy with this she wouldn't have started the thread.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 16/11/2015 20:47

I will have the c-section for you. Enjoy the movie

theycallmemellojello · 16/11/2015 21:05

Fuck that, he should stay home and support his wife and the mother of his child. I'm passionate about some things but would never put them above family. What a dick.

ManVsPink · 17/11/2015 08:48

He should definitely go and see the film. If not, by the time he gets to watch it (months later) it'll be spoiled to hell by everyone else, and he will never let that be forgotten by you or your child.

londonrach · 17/11/2015 09:06

Good luck op thinking of you today. Auntie steller and santas Grin. Photo of your little stormtrooper op x (sorry know nothing about stars wars. Think ive watched a couple of them. How many are there?)

Littlegreyauditor · 17/11/2015 09:37

My due date is the release date of Star Wars, but I will probably be brought in sooner due to complications. I have my DH well threatened. He will not, under any circumstances, be going to see the film without me. I will not tolerate spoilers, and he would not be able to resist. He has accepted his fate now, with something approaching good grace. Grin

If you are content with the arrangements OP then crack on. Good luck to you bothFlowers

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/11/2015 10:22

Showed this to my dh (a Star Wars fan but not so obsessive he would go to a midnight premiere) and he said
'Fine, he needs to get used to sleepless nights anyway'.
I appreciate you have a child already - dh just saw the basic dilemma posed on MN's facebook page.
Having read the thread, I can't really see any problem. It is not as if you are going to be in labour. It is just one more night like any other. I would be grateful to have the whole bed to myself for a few hours but then I spent all the later parts of my pregnancies propped up on a beanbag unable to sleep due to heartburn, with my dh squashed into a far corner of the bed.

AuntieStella · 14/12/2015 16:24

Thinking of you this week, OP. Hope all is going well.

AuntieStella · 17/12/2015 09:19

Did the Star Wars plan go OK? And what did he think of the movie?

Hope everything else is going calmly and normally too.

Blacktealeaves · 17/12/2015 09:24

Was wondering if there was an update too!

Also wanted to say the thread title looks like a particularly scary spin off, like predators v aliens....

Crazypetlady · 17/12/2015 10:42

D.P went to see star wars he is still in bed...

WaitrosePigeon · 17/12/2015 10:44

Wouldn't bother me if he went.

Hope all is ok.

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 17/12/2015 11:39

From the title I thought you were asking which would be worse - watching Star Wars or having a C section.

For me it'd be a no brainer. I'm due to have an ELCS soon and dh is a Star Wars geek fan. He's going to see it tomorrow with his friend. Friend's wife is coming here for lunch with me and the dcs instead.

I'm almost looking forward to my ELCS but wild horses with fangs couldn't induce me to sit through Star Wars.

However, in response to your original question, I'd say that he should reschedule his geekfest and stay in the night before Grin

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 17/12/2015 11:41

Just realised that I arrived late and clearly didn't rtft. Hope all went well OP, and that your newborn isn't called Luke Skywalker or similar.

Starwarsorbaby · 18/12/2015 11:01

Hello. Op here. Know how we all love an update!

Sat in hospital with a beautiful baby girl, born with no problem weighing 8lb 5oz. Just waiting to be discharged Smile

DH thoroughly enjoyed the film and managed all his new daddy duties admirably. Didn't fall asleep when he shouldn't! Baby has a Star Wars themed middle name!

May the force be with you all!
