My health visitor can out to see me after my 2 year old son have a temperature and rash had a A&E visit over it she was saying you have to put cold water in the bath 1st or he will be burned and drown my son is not left in the bathroom alone she was very ignorant and was basically telling me how to safeguard my son in the bathroom my son has 3 different types of eczema and have had this since birth has been to see a skin specialist about this she was Intent on making me see a different specialist she even made appointments for me to see my GP my GP said my son does not need any skin specialist she left a voicemail on my phone for me to call her when I called her she was telling me I have to safeguard the outside of the property that I'm living in in this she told me I had to get a cage that attaches to my front door so my 2 year old son can go outside and play I was told buy her to leave my son unattended outside in a cage I would never leave my child unattended at any point been outside and is watching when in the bath has anyone got any advice on this matter as I'm not a stupid person that would leave a 2 year old in a cage outside but there are young mums out there that could possibly take notice to what thishealth visitor has told me

caz1987k, some people don't have very good reading comprehension skills and cannot use context to understand what is being written, and I think some of those people are upset because they don't understand what you are writing about. This is their problem, not a problem for you. Similarly, when people who used to be important go onto maternity leave, and aren't important any more, they sometimes go on the internet to be rude to people. It's attention seeking behaviour so best to ignore it.

On the subject of your Health Visitor, ring your doctor and tell him/her everything you have told us. Either she has misunderstood you, you have misunderstood her, or she really is crackers and needs reporting

Glad you got a reasonable resolution, caz Smile

TheCatsFlaps · 10/11/2015 17:59

Then op just went what can only be described as APESHIT

My eyes still hurt from the lack of punctuation.

DisappointedOne · 10/11/2015 18:06

This is not because there are any safeguarding concerns, it's standard for each and every child and each and every admittance

Nope. My then 2 year old and I had a 4 hour spell in A+E after she slipped while climbing out of the bath and sustained a head injury that required gluing. Never heard a thing about it afterwards from anyone.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 18:09

Whoa, I didn't see this. Please whoever said this don't talk such nonsense that could scare parents.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/11/2015 18:21

It will have been logged with the HV team, Disappointed. What they do with it will depend on local policy and how well the HV knows the family. Yours obviously didn't contact you, some will contact all referrals by phone or visit, some will be doing something else.

I'd guess that as the OP is new to the area and had no previous contact with the local HV team they felt this might be a good opportunity to introduce themselves.

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 10/11/2015 18:26

I very much doubt that every single child and every single visit to A&E triggers a visit from a HV. If this is actually true, it would explain why someone HV's might be acting a bit oddly, because they would be INSANE from endless pointless busywork and extreme tiredness.
Even in the UK, land of the stupid rule and lovers of paperwork, that can't be the case, surely.

We've had 2 a.&e visits with DD. One when she launched herself head first off her changing table, once when she fell and fractured her leg. One triggered a HV call and one didn't. Both in different areas.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 18:33

I had my Ds in a&e twice when he was little. I was never contacted by the HV nor told by a&e staff that they would contact them.

LastTripToTulsa · 10/11/2015 18:34

Poor punctuation can be a result of poor education or perhaps poor English language skills due to being from somewhere else . Why would anyone ridicule someone for this? It's really not the fault of the individual.
We don't all get decent education !
I feel sorry for this lady getting this response however I feel more sorry for the ignorant middle class

KatharineClifton · 10/11/2015 18:36

I so wish I had of had your HV! My life would of been so much easier if she had provided cages for my DC. Gutted actually.

Never had a HV call triggered from many many trips to A&E over the years. Perhaps they are all passed on and it's down to the HV whether they follow up?

LimboNovember · 10/11/2015 18:39

I have Paul, we had a phone call twice about a and e visits.
Quick chat, is all OK YES and goodbye. I dont like interferance either but there was nothing to get my back up.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 18:43

I am now genuinely intrigued as to what would trigger a call.

But again, I think it's important to emphasize that a trip to a&e doesn't mean you will automatically have your hv swooping in for visits.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/11/2015 18:49

Some departments have posters up, some just don't say a word I think Paul. All pre-schoolers attending A&E will have had that info forwarded though. It's a safeguarding thing and is supposed to prevent parents who take children with frequent non-accidental injuries to different a&e departments from slipping under the radar.

KatharineClifton · 10/11/2015 18:50

I expect it is entirely related to workload Paul.

They should really make this clear to people. I never had a follow up appointment, nor have friends who have had their children at a&e. They clearly are falling behind in what they are supposed to do. Have the rules changed recently?

PacificDogwod · 10/11/2015 19:26

There is a nation-wide political will to integrate various services more so horrible cases like Baby P etc are avoided (he was seen by a number of agencies and different professionals, none of which spoke to each other or where aware of each other AFAIK), so under 5s A+E presentation will be fed back to Primary Care Teams and HV/GPs will be more aware about A+E presentations.
I am not aware of any policy stating 'after x attendances to A+E, y must happen' - there will always be a degree of professional judgement IMO.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/11/2015 19:31

Earliest thread on here I could find about it was 2007 I think.

It may not be them not getting their act together. It may be a case of them going through the paperwork and deciding no further action is needed based on previous notes and the accident being one off and fairly 'typical' for an active pre-schooler.

DisappointedOne · 10/11/2015 19:53

What if the individual didn't bother to attend school or spent lessons preening with their friends or not paying any attention? Plenty of those around. Whose fault is that or is there no such thing as personal responsibility?

TheOnlyColditz · 10/11/2015 19:56

Oh DisappointedOne, how surprised I am to see you on yet another thread whining about grammar standards. Why don't you either find something constructive to do, or, if you can't because you really are upset about spelling, punctuation and grammar, I suggest you see a psychiatric professional.

DisappointedOne · 10/11/2015 20:00

Ha ha. I was responding to someone else's point about the reasons for poor writing style. None of my posts on this thread have even mentioned spelling or grammar.

Hmm
