Is this a thing now?

Is there really a need to be stockpiling food, medicines and creating a bolt hole?

Am i missing something? Seriously (this is not a light-hearted thread), i suffer from anxiety and this is really disturbing me.

Hopefully people have just been watching too much walking dead.

It doesn't seem very MN. More like US oddball sites.

Mintyy · 07/11/2015 22:45

Ok, so no. 1 on the list:

Store water.

No. 2:

Store food.

No. 3:

Store candles, matches and a calor gas heater.

No. 4:

Research how long anyone not in the third world has been deprived of basic necessities for and try and get it in perspective.

NOT worthy of an entire topic. Imo.

3luckystars · 07/11/2015 22:45

My mother was always doing this when we were younger, going through phases of saying the end of the world was coming she would stock pile the attic full of food every so often. Dad used to say "who the fu*k wants to be alive if everyone is is dead, we can't sit here eating canned peas while the neighbours starve!"
I think it made her feel better.

I have a friend who managed with what she had stockpiled on 3 months of bed rest. She's like on of those extreme couponing nutters though, her house is massive and stocked to the roof with stuff. I think she got worse for hoarding after that.

gamerchick · 07/11/2015 22:46

Weeel the only people 'whipping themselves up into a frenzy' are those against the whole thing as far as I can see.

We chat amongst ourselves quite calmly, on our own board not bothering anybody...Leaving the rest to chat about handbags or some other interesting to them topic.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 22:47

You seem fixated on handbags gamer, are you sure you don't want to join their chat?

Didactylos · 07/11/2015 22:48

I would like a zombie plan topic

please mnhq?

gamerchick · 07/11/2015 22:50

Just the latest thread I backed out of today, yanno without comment Wink stuck in my head.

Far far more weird than stocking up on beans man.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 22:50

NOT worthy of an entire topic Imo

Well thankfully, Mintyy mnhq doesn't agree with you.

Thank fuck.

Hide the topic if you don't like it.

lavenderhoney · 07/11/2015 22:51

In the dead of night in the sticks, the power went off. I was pleased to remember the candles and lit them. We went to bed early. Mainly because the candles were posh ones from Laura Ashley and burnt down in comedy seconds. Alright for positioning round the bath but fucking useless for practical use. Though a mnetter did promise to bring round a crush of mine if I'd let her in, so I suppose they might come in handy somehow.

if it makes you nervous don't read the threads about it, although I suppose some of it might be useful for power cuts- not the end is nigh though.

Mintyy · 07/11/2015 22:52

I would like a topic for short 53 year old white female Londoners who are driven to distraction by their family using things like nail clippers and not putting them back where they belong.

Please.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 22:52

Yes OP. YABVVU

OfaFrenchmind2 · 07/11/2015 22:52

Didactylos Just because you asked, here are so very british tips :)

capsium · 07/11/2015 22:54

I think my body has decided to do it's own form of 'prepping'. I've got a lovely fat reserve building up around my middle. Every time I have a meal I think my body decides to store a bit more away. Keep me going for a good few weeks. Well you never know when you might need it...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 22:56

That'll be just you then Mintyy. I'm sure if you can drum up support for a topic of blah blah blah nail clippers, mnhq will give you one.

In the mean time, why don't you leave those on MN who would like to talk about prepping alone, eh?

Just a thought.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 22:56

It was me talking about antibiotics. I have a long term chronic condition and this photo is about two weeks worth of antibiotics. I do always seem to have extra/spare as im prescribed 4g a day of one drug but if I'm feeling ok I take 2g, so it builds up.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 22:58

But has anyone 'invaded' (to use a prepping term) the Preppers' Board? This thread is just discussing the fact that it exists.

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 07/11/2015 22:58

'Headlamps to make way through the zombie hordes.'

I must admit that wouldn't have occurred to me. Are they repelled by strong light? Smile

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/11/2015 23:00

It's not just rural areas that need to prep. A few years ago there was a diesel spill in the local reservoir. No tap water for days wasnt just unfit for drinking - was unfit for anything. Water board put bowsers out on street corners but that took a while to organise. Shops were running out of water. It was a problem for elderly people particularly.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 23:03

Mitzy'- the opening OP is to be 'disturbed' by a 'Preppers' topic.

Well, we, who want a Preppers topic are 'disturbed' that MN members dont want it to exist.

If you don't like it, don't post, or hide it. Like any other topic.

I don't feel the need to say the infertility topic disturbs me.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 23:04

I remember a 1980s BBC adaptation of a John Wyndham novel. It made surviving a global disaster look really unappealing. Basically stuck in a bunker with lots of bossy people and being forced to procreate with that ugly bloke from no. 76.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 23:05

Well what has that got to do with the Preppers topic?

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 23:06

ThroughThickAndThin01 the OP clearly states that she suffers from anxiety and. You might want to remember to stockpile some compassion.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/11/2015 23:07

Then she needs to hide the Prepper topic. Or learn from it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 23:08

You're a proper cranky sod aren't you? Go chop some firewood and release some of that bad temper.

SecretWitch · 07/11/2015 23:08

If the topic causes you such anxiety why don't you avoid it? Isn't that what the hide button is for?
