To ask for the maximum you would spend on a bag?

Can be handbag, backpack, laptop bag etc, but one for daily use as opposed to a huge hiking rucksack or luggage.

Asking as I think I've found "the one" but the price is how much!?! Shock

£200 is the most I've ever spent but would be willing to go up to £300 and have spent that much on shoes on occasion.

Noofly · 07/11/2015 21:54

The most I have ever spent on a bag is £300 15 years ago. It's a Bally bag, I love it and still frequently use it.

Annwfyn · 07/11/2015 21:55

10% of my monthly income. This has changed over the years.

Also, I note I am not a massive bag person. For an object I especially treasured, like a nice painting for the house I'd go as high as 25%.

SparklyLeprechaun · 07/11/2015 21:58

Not more than £150 and it would have to be really special. I'm not a handbag person and refuse to pay for a brand name. My favourite is a leather cross body bag I bought in a shop in Romania 12 years ago, for maybe £20. It is all I require from a handbag with the added bonus it's not got any logo.

IrishDad79 · 07/11/2015 22:10

Not sure about that Garlick. I mean, I couldn't design a dress for shit, but a bag's a fucking bag, how hard could that be to design?!

sugar21 · 07/11/2015 22:17

I got a nice shoulder bag in the market for £10. Haven't got much interest in cow hide

chanie44 · 07/11/2015 22:29

I love handbags. I like what I like and I'm not that fussed about a 'drsigner' and would prefer a well made quality bag.

I think my max is about £200 for a bag at the moment, as it would be good quality and it wouldn't be the end of the world if it got trashed.

Once I have more disposable income (eg no mortgage dependent children) I would spend around £500, but I would feel uncomfortable spending more, even if I could afford it.

GreyBird84 · 07/11/2015 22:32

Generally no more than £50 but I splashed out £250 for a storksak changing bag.

I love it & it's used daily.
Also hope to have another DC so if that happens it will be well used. Still feel a bit sick about spending the £ though but my pink lining bag was annoying me so much!

vestandknickers · 07/11/2015 22:39

£30 or so. I really don't understand why anyone would spend hundreds on a bag.

PavlovtheCat · 07/11/2015 22:39

£30.

OTheHugeManatee · 07/11/2015 22:43

Probably £300-£400.

Most of my bags cost £100-£250.

KateSpadeAddict · 07/11/2015 23:34

In the past I have spent £1000 Blush worth every penny!
I do covet bags though. Usually spend around £350 on a new bag or watch ebay like a hawk Grin

Greengardenpixie · 07/11/2015 23:40

The most i have ever paid for a bag is about £100

corgiology · 07/11/2015 23:48

5p.

Oh we're not talking about carrier bags?

hiddenhome2 · 07/11/2015 23:51

About £35

neotix · 07/11/2015 23:51

Most I've spent is £200 (although reduced and full priced would be £450). I'd probably be willing to spend more (maybe £400) but I've never seen anything that I want that much.

AdjustableWench · 07/11/2015 23:58

My favouritest bag ever was an army surplus kind of thing that I got for about a fiver. I got my small daughter to draw flower shapes on it and then I sewed small beads over the flower shapes (took all night but worked out pretty well). I loved that bag, but after a few years it developed holes. My current bag was £40, which is the most I've ever spent on a bag that didn't need to survive an aircraft hold.

Unreasonablebetty · 08/11/2015 00:12

I have had a few in the £800 range, they aren't my thing anymore

Feawen · 08/11/2015 00:16

The most I've spent is £140 for my satchel. My parents bought me one in 2007, and it went everywhere I went until this year, when its state of disrepair and my career progression became incompatible. Now I have two :)

NerrSnerr · 08/11/2015 00:17

I would spend up to £50 on a decent rucksack for work and sport. I would spend £20 on a handbag usually in the accessorise January sales.

AnyoneButAndre · 08/11/2015 00:18

Maximum of 150 quid for a formal leather work bag, less if I can get away with it. I tend to trash my bags though, and they rarely last more than a year - I can't imagine that a hugely expensive bag would be magically immune to damage, so it would be ridiculous for me to thing about "investment bags".

CrazyOldBagLady · 08/11/2015 00:41

I think every bag I own came from TK Maxx, so haven't spent more than about £60. I always buy leather ones 'cause the fake leather tend not to last so well.

banff82 · 08/11/2015 00:44

About £50ish maybe, handbags really aren't my thing. Totally each to their own though; I'll happily spend a fortune on ski gear, fancy Osprey backpacks or the latest outdoor jacket, which many people would find extravagant/not see the point in. We have thousands of pounds worth of skiing gear, hiking and climbing gear, mountain bikes and biking gear, because that's what we're into, so if you want it, you'll use it and you can afford it then go for it.

An ex bought me a Prada handbag and a Chanel purse in New York once as a surprise. I cannot imagine why he thought I would want them, he knew full well I have less than zero interest in expensive handbags etc., but he was a bit flash like that and I think he wanted me to want that kind of stuff. The bag cost about $1600 and the purse $1000ish. I sold them when we split up - I'd used them maybe two times - and used the proceeds to go on a climbing/biking trip to Norway and then skiing in France that winter; I was well chuffed with my free handbag holidays Grin

ChilliAndBint · 08/11/2015 01:02

£200 , not a designer one like Chanel ( poor value) use them everyday for years, then buy a new one.

Smaller ones for the times I go out, usually Desigual or something from TK Maxx.

I probably spend a fraction of what my friends do on shoes and handbags , but I buy quality ( not flashy names) and nearly always in the sale.

EmmaWoodlouse · 08/11/2015 12:25

Very rarely more than £50 but my current favourite bag cost almost £90 - and I have used it constantly since I bought it last winter and will probably go on using it constantly till it falls apart. Let's just say I have to be very, very certain I won't change my mind about a bag before I spend more than £50. But I am not a big spender in general, nor could I afford to me.
