Can be handbag, backpack, laptop bag etc, but one for daily use as opposed to a huge hiking rucksack or luggage.

Asking as I think I've found "the one" but the price is how much!?! Shock

£40 on my current bag, I have a handful of £200-mark bags. If you love it and can afford it and will use it I say go for it!

RJnomaaaaaargh · 08/11/2015 12:40

Most of mines would be £100-200, I like Radley a lot but in a rare case I'd go to about £500. I can't imagine spending four figures on a bag though.

RobotLover68 · 09/11/2015 11:18

any update on the bag OP

NickiFury · 09/11/2015 11:22

£700. I've spent £625 so I will round it up.

Hatethis22 · 09/11/2015 11:29

Now, probably £400 max. I do have some that were more expensive but I now spend my money on my face. When I was 17 I had a cleanser and a moisturiser. Now I have two shelves of 'essential' products in the bathroom cabinet. I'd probably be better off using cold cream and saving up for a facelift.

ChristmasZombie · 09/11/2015 11:30

I don't think I'd go above £250. The costliest bag I own was a present and was £155. The most I've spent was £65. I am eyeing up a Ted Baker handbag priced at £159. I'm hoping it might be in the sale after Christmas.

PrimeraVez · 09/11/2015 11:33

When I am looking at bags, I wouldn't normally consider anything about 1k, but if it was something really special, I would pay more. I do really look after my bags though - they are rotated on almost daily basis, they are kept immaculately clean and tidy, and they are always stored in the dustbag on a shelf in my wardrobe.

That said, I would struggle to spend more than 100 quid on a pair of shoes, so horses for courses and all that.

icanteven · 09/11/2015 11:36

£1500. I want a Celine Box bag, and will get it used, I think.

My vintage Chanel was £400 (ebay). I haven't bought a designer bag in a couple of years, and when my new business is up and running, I'm treating myself to a watch and a bag.

Paintedhandprints · 09/11/2015 11:38

£100 on a decent mountain biking bag, in a sale. Bags are not my thing. Shoes however...

foragogo · 09/11/2015 11:39

I have spent £800 but have since decided that is ludicrous. I havent bought a bag for awhile but recently got 2 (old cheap one fell apart) one was £300 andd the other £200 odd. I think £350 is my self-imposed limit these days.

2rebecca · 09/11/2015 11:39

£100. I don't get the expensive bag thing. Expensive bikes I can understand. I also don't like having many bags as there's always something I forget to transfer over.

DrDreReturns · 09/11/2015 11:47

£20, but I'm a bloke and not fussed by bags. The current bag I use for work cost £15 when I bought it fifteen years ago.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/11/2015 11:48

spent a lot on two mulberry bags years ago sold on ebay when I was broke

now maybe £50

I know people who spend over £100 on a fake bag they are good but I would rather just spend that money on a nice leather bag I am not fussed that I can not afford a Chanel bag and as I cant I am not spending money on a fake one

noeffingidea · 09/11/2015 11:53

I've just spent £12 on a bag. My last bag cost £5 from Primark and lasted 6 years.

ouryve · 09/11/2015 11:58

About £250 for "the one".

AgeingArtemis · 09/11/2015 11:59

Update as requested, I normally use very cheap (

Well £230 isn't that much :) What about having it as a Christmas present?

As Marie Kondo would say - does it spark joy in your heart? Grin

BertieBotts · 09/11/2015 12:09

I have to say though I'm really curious as to why you are being so vague.

AgeingArtemis · 09/11/2015 12:47

Sorry Bertie I'm not being deliberately vague, I'm just a wishy washy person! Grin

I would like an urban/commuter backpack, not too big, with plenty of helpful compartments, a water bottle holder OR side zip to easily access said water bottle, made with water resistant fabric (doesn't need to have welded seams though) and a roll top or flap top to be more water resistant than a zip. Waterproof base. Sternum strap as well to stop it sliding around on the bike. Specific enough?Wink

I don't have anyone who would be willing to spend 80 pounds on a bag (let alone 230!) For Christmas so it will have to be a present to myself Grin

The question wasn't really about my specific situation anyway, I was more curious to see what other people spend, and as I can see there is a huge variation! I'm a bit Hmm at people who claim to only buy 5 pound bags from eBay- would you really not spend more (say 20) on a new one that had everything you wanted?

I'm curious about people who say "I don't spend that much on bags, but shoes!" I consider that I spend quite a lot (up to 60 pounds) on shoes to have good quality, but I would theoretically be happy to spend more than that on a bag because you only have one or two bags (that actually get used) but maybe 6 or more pairs of shoes?

This thread has made me covet a £149 Radley bag. I currently only occasionally use a small, medium grey cross-body bag, but it's looking a little battered and doesn't go with anything anymore (especially in winter with my giant black coat). Don't know whether to go for it or not - I use a really cheap supermarket rucksack most of the time because I need to transport a lot of stuff, but when I don't need the rucksack I find myself feeling stuck with the grey bag. Hmm. Just about convinced myself.

How to work out whether to get black or tan without seeing the bag in person, though? If I stop off at the Trafford Centre next month on a flying visit, is it likely the Radley shop will have a specific bag, or not?

Alexjoy · 09/11/2015 13:04

Same as Dexter.

300 quid but has to be perfect.

Not found it yet.

AnyoneButAndre · 09/11/2015 14:18

Radley shop will probably have them all - I agree that you definitely need to try an everyday bag on in person to get a proper feel for it. Don't pay full price though - I'd bet ready money that John Lewis will have a 20% off price match sometime between now and January, so try on now and be ready to pounce online when the right deal comes up.

ShelaghTurner · 09/11/2015 14:25

I love bags but have never spent more than £50 on one. Am eyeballing one for £95 at the moment and it's making me break out in a cold sweat! Grin

Spitoon · 09/11/2015 15:00

I love the idea of a Chanel but there is no point buying one as people will automatically think it's fake.

GreenPetal94 · 09/11/2015 15:03

£100. But my favourite bag was £10 in a craft stall, it gets complements all the time.
