Can be handbag, backpack, laptop bag etc, but one for daily use as opposed to a huge hiking rucksack or luggage.

Asking as I think I've found "the one" but the price is how much!?! Shock

OP posts:
Madbengalmum · 07/11/2015 19:29

About £5,000 on a hermes jypsiere. Normally between £1 and £2.5k though.
Im really into handbags!!!

AnthonyBlanche · 07/11/2015 19:31

Purple makes a good point - we all spend our money on different things. I wouldn't spend £1500 on a TV, but plenty of people do.

redredblue · 07/11/2015 19:31

£200
As long as it's really nice, leather and practical.
Preferably it'll be in the sale.

Gabilan · 07/11/2015 19:33

If I had it and thought the bag would last maybe 100-200. I don't get the whole designer bag thing and even if I were loaded would never spend more than a 3 figure sum.

But if you've got the money OP, it's your business what you spend it on.

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2015 19:34

Well under £100 for me. I wouldn't say I'm particularly into bags, but I have to like them & they have to be just the right colour, size & shape. I just don't want to spend a lot of money on them. The latest one is from TK Maxx, is leather, holds everything I need & cost about £65. I expect it to last me ages.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 07/11/2015 19:35

£200 probably. I liked the Prada Fairies collection a few years back, and I do like the Chanel 2.55, but Chanel just isn't what it used to be Grin

I like plain things, and hate too many jingly details on a bag. I've just bought a very soft leather plain clutch from Pied a Terre that was £50 (in the sale). That's the most I've spent in about five years on a bag.

iwannadancewithsomebody · 07/11/2015 19:36

Usually about £40 but they don't seem to last, so I'm going to get for about the £100 mark in the January sales

1300 on a mulberry willow, the most expensive bag I have. I get nervous about it getting dirty or wet. Husband nearly died when I bought it (he was there). It is beautiful, classic and i will use it for years. It is one of 3 mulberry bags I have and I still use them all.

Mintyy · 07/11/2015 19:43

I wouldn't spend £1,500 on a tv either.

And I drive an 11 year old citroen C4.

I wonder what I do spend my money on?

I would spend around £200 on a good quality leather bag

Shirtsleeves · 07/11/2015 19:51

The way I shlep my bags around, £50 is plenty!

Shirtsleeves · 07/11/2015 19:52

Actually, I'd pay up to £100 for a decent bag as a one-off but not as a force of habit.

BertieBotts · 07/11/2015 19:54

I think about £40, but if it's really the only one you can find with the right bits, then more. I wouldn't think in terms of "How much would you spend on a bag" but "How much can I expect to pay for a product of these specifications" - ie are other similar products the same kind of price range? Sometimes you just can't get the quality or the features on a cheaper product. Like I wouldn't buy the top of the range latest greatest mobile phone, but I also wouldn't buy the cheapest because I want some of the features that you end up paying a mid-range price for.

We spent €80 on DS' school bag which I felt steep, but considering they normally charge about €200 here, we got less fleeced than we could have. That's how much they cost Confused and of course you don't want your child to be the only one with the wrong bag.

MrsWhirling · 07/11/2015 19:54

£375 but will be spending £875 on an LV in Jan when I turn 40. X

wannabetennisplayer · 07/11/2015 19:55

I usually spend under a tenner but would be willing to go up to about 25 pounds for the right bag (which is mainly judged on practical criteria e.g. size, shape, compartments, will it go with any outfit).

pasturesgreen · 07/11/2015 19:55

About £700 on a Mulberry briefcase, 2 or 3 years ago. A good investment, as I've used it everyday for work since.

I tend to go for good quality leather bags in classic styles, and I'd have no qualms on spending £200 or £300 on an 'everyday' handbag, certainly more on 'the one'.

RiceBurner · 07/11/2015 19:57

£100 tops. (I usually have a very practical rucksack or a bum bag tho, rather than a naice handbag.)

Oliversmumsarmy · 07/11/2015 19:59

Under a tenner. Cannot see the point in spending hundreds to cart around the skin of some dead animal.

Current one cost £8 and I have had people stop me to ask where I got the bag from. (Reduced counter at Tesco)

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 07/11/2015 20:00

Actually, I'd spend more on a briefcase than handbag for work (I don't do that work anymore, but did buy for DH). I'd go up to £400 for the right briefcase/work bag.

Garlick · 07/11/2015 20:00

Your new rucksack's gorgeous, Lemony!

My most expensive bag ever was about £2.5k. It got nicked, but not before I'd used & abused it non-stop for years. I still miss it sometimes.

These days: nothing! I'm broke. I still have a couple of 'good' bags left, though they're showing their age now. When I need a replacement, it'll have to be whichever serviceable plastic effort I can find for a tenner. I might go back to my teenage thing & make fabric bags. They never last long, but they're free and use up old stuff.

Focusfocus · 07/11/2015 20:02

£5 off eBay

hefzi · 07/11/2015 20:09

I use leather bags from TK Maxx, big enough to put a laptop etc in, smart enough for work: £60 is the most I've spent. (But I do have six different ones in different colours) Most I've spent on a bag - £250, for my mother's 60th. She uses it all the time, damn her, even though I told her it would appreciate in value if she didn't :-D

If you like it, and will use it, and can afford it: I don't see why you can't buy it.

WilliamShatnersPants · 07/11/2015 20:11

I've got a Marc Jacobs hobo bag which cost around £400. Use it every day and I love it.
