Can be handbag, backpack, laptop bag etc, but one for daily use as opposed to a huge hiking rucksack or luggage.

Asking as I think I've found "the one" but the price is how much!?! Shock

i get a new one for about a tenner in primark twice a year, and run them into the ground.

MummaV · 07/11/2015 20:18

Personally around £30.
My DH buys me beautiful expensive bags periodically though. Most recent was a £250 purple leather Radley bag. I do have a small Radley obsession.

pinkmagic1 · 07/11/2015 20:18

Currently about £70 for a nice one, my current one is a lovely soft brown leather one from TKMax and was £50. I think like anything it is all dependant on your income though, if I had more I would more than likely spend more on one. I like them and let's face it, you never get too fat or thin for a bag!

Dungandbother · 07/11/2015 20:18

I'm a lucky girl and occasionally get to go to sample sales.
So I have a Chloe I paid £300 for
Two MK I paid £70 for
And a DvF clutch I paid £80 for.

At the last sale I also bought my bff a Chloe, my mum a MK and an investment to sell on of a C Kane. I walked out with over £6k retail in bags. That felt GOOD!

When my stbxh walked out for OW I took his credit card straight to HofF and splashed £350 on a Radley.

BreakfastAtStephanies · 07/11/2015 20:23

That's fabulous Dung

80sMum · 07/11/2015 20:24

If it is a classic style and built to last, I might fork out up to £150 or possibly a bit more. But it would have to be exceptionally good to warrant that sort of price. My usual spend is about £50.

xalyssx · 07/11/2015 20:24

I have a proper hiking rucksack that cost approx £800, and I use it a lot so I don't think that it was expensive. But my handbag gets used a lot less regularly so I only spent £20 on it. In fact I tend to use a sparkly gift bag most days as it hangs on the pushchair better, and that only cost 50p.

Crazybaglady · 07/11/2015 20:26

5p Grin

Sgtmajormummy · 07/11/2015 20:30

I buy second hand (vintage, please!) The Bridge bags, especially the red leather styles, but stick to a £50 budget on ebay. They're sturdy and well made, and the more timeworn they are, the better.

On my last significant birthday, I received a NEW one (not sure how much but probably about £250) but it isn't my fave. Something to do with the bag to strap thickness ratio...

So I say, go with what you love. It's your style statement to the world.

FindoGask · 07/11/2015 20:30

Really not much. £30 probably. More for a functional bag like a good cycling or walking rucksack. I don't care about bags. (not saying no-one else should either, by the way! bags are just not my, er, bag).

AnthonyBlanche · 07/11/2015 20:31

Is that your glesgae suitcase you're referring to crazybaglady??

Lndnmummy · 07/11/2015 20:31

£1k would be my max and have spent this in the past on more than one occasion. Will not happen again as long as i have nursery fees to pay for though

Hassled · 07/11/2015 20:33

Probably £150-ish, because I do like bags (am unfussed by shoes, though - I've noticed it tends to be one or the other. Shoe people care less about bags). I want to be the sort of person who could spend £££ without guilt, though, because I want a Mulberry Bayswater a lot.

Ripeningapples · 07/11/2015 20:35

Well, in recent times £170. Very happy with Radley here and get three seasons out of them. In my younger days I had a Gucci bag and a Mulberry bag which then were a quarter of my monthly salary. I wouldn't spend that now even though I could and easily.

A few years ago I walked past the back of Aspreys and saw the most beautiful bag(s). I talked myself into them being worth it even if I paid over £500. I looked them up on line. £8,500!!!!!!!! I've always known I have exquisite taste but no, just no. I think I had six figures in my bank account at the time but no, it's just not a sensible thing to do.

Crazybaglady · 07/11/2015 20:36

anthony limited edition Lidl, i'll have you know Grin

YakTriangle · 07/11/2015 20:43

I don't think I could bring myself to spend more than about £15 for a receptacle to keep keys and receipts and a purse in - the ones costing hundreds, like Mulberry etc all look exactly the same to me as one you'd get in New Look. Identical leather satchel looking things Confused
I don't get the handbag thing. Or the pushchair one.

My most-used bag is a horrid nylon £7 rucksack I bought in Aldi when I couldn't carry all my groceries! It scrunches up tiny, weighs nothing and is really strong. I wish it wasn't quite so ugly, though Grin

Garlick · 07/11/2015 21:10

I do, Lemony. There may be some coveting going on here. Looks like it'll improve with use, as well :)

JaceLancs · 07/11/2015 21:19

Probably around £150
I tend to have 2-3 different bags at a time, usually buy from outlets, tkmaxx or even secondhand eBay etc
I sell them on when I get bored and often get most of what I paid back, sometimes even more!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/11/2015 21:33

Husband will spend £3k and above on handbags as presents, but I find it hard to buy handbags over £1k nowadays. Not because we can't afford it but because I don't think they are worth it really.

msgrinch · 07/11/2015 21:40

£1,000 if it's perfect. My mulberry has lasted ages and was worth the money. I'm the same with shoes I'd rather pay more for something well made and longlasting than cheap.

IrishDad79 · 07/11/2015 21:41

Does anyone know how someone would go about getting into the handbag business? Sounds like easy money.

Garlick · 07/11/2015 21:46

It is, Irish - provided you can maintain the quality, build the cult following and generate the right kind of reputation.

Garlick · 07/11/2015 21:47

... you could say the same about any fashion product, really.
