To ask how often do you shower?

I was talking to a friend about hygiene etc an she seemed horrified that I only shower every other day.

She said that she showers morning and night every day. I don't even have time for that! Or enough bathrooms!! The kids get bathed in the nights that I don't shower and DP showers every night. I find that if I shower every single day, I get dry skin, same with the kids too. So am I really as scruffy, dirty and unhygienic as I now feel?

Unless you get very hot and sweaty/go to the gym/exercise a lot I think that twice a day is a little OTT. I shower every day.

suchafuss · 06/11/2015 21:53

Every other day once read that its not good for the skin if more frequent.

wonkylegs · 06/11/2015 21:53

Every morning as it wakes me up and i'd be zombie without it but I only wash my hair once a week usually (twice at the moment as i'm pregnant and its greasier than usual)
Twice a day seems excessive unless you are exercising or doing something messy.

Only1scoop · 06/11/2015 21:54

Shower in morning
Soak in bath at night.

Osolea · 06/11/2015 21:54

Once a day, twice if I've been excercising.

emsyj · 06/11/2015 21:54

I shower every morning and have a bath every evening. I enjoy a bath before bed andit helps me sleep. I would hate to go to work without showering in the morning. I have very greasy skin and hair so I would be disgusting if I only showered every other day!

PUGaLUGS · 06/11/2015 21:55

Once a day (twice if I have been to the gym) or sometimes a shower in the morning and a bath in the evening.

Kim82 · 06/11/2015 21:56

I shower every morning, dh showers every day when he gets home from work (showers in the morning on days off), 14yo Ds showers every morning, 11yo dd showers every 2 days, 8yo dd showers every 2-3 days and 15mo dd has a bath every night as she invariably smears her tea into her hair.

dementedpixie · 06/11/2015 21:56

Every morning plus after any exercise classes (so twice on those days)

Milanisabadman · 06/11/2015 21:57

Like your friend I'm a morning and night on a daily basis person. Intimate parts need to be clean and fresh else I wouldn't feel comfortable. DH is the same which is a good thing because I couldn't bear anyone laying their stanking arse next to me at night. Re: the dry skin - moisturise!

7Days · 06/11/2015 21:57

Every other day here too. I have very dry skin and hair and even thta's a bit much tbh. Do the crevicey bits as and when in betwen

Bimblepops · 06/11/2015 21:57

Every other day - my skin gets really dry and my hair looks awful if I shower every day.

It's perfectly fine, I'm clean and fresh, my clothes get changed. Can't see the problem at all.

NickNacks · 06/11/2015 21:58

Never, we don't have a shower in our bathroom.

pestilence13610 · 06/11/2015 21:58

I used to be every other day.
Then I got menopausal, now it is every day with the odd extra bath thrown in. For a little while before going on HRT it was about every four days. I would rather have curled up in the corner of the bathroom and cried, than get cold, wet and naked.

Mintyy · 06/11/2015 21:58

Once a day is fine for me unless in exceptional circumstances (like being on holiday in very hot weather). I do need to shower every day, though, even if ill.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/11/2015 21:58

I have a wash in the morning as I don't have a shower and a bath at night.

My skin is lovely and soft.

Dc both have eczema and dry skin problems, having a short 10 minute bath everynight has helped their eczema enormously and what the Dr suggested.

I wouldnt smell if I didn't have a bath everyday as I'm not a sweaty sort of person but I wouldn't feel clean. I didn't realise until MN that some people don't get clean everyday.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/11/2015 22:00

Shower in morning and bath at night.

Trooperslane · 06/11/2015 22:00

My skin is a fucking disaster of sensitive/itchiness etc so the less the better. The more intimate areas get done all the time.

I have v frizzy hair so that gets done as little as possible, so more than once a week = total disaster.

SurlyCue · 06/11/2015 22:01

These threads never end well.

I shower every morning. It actually keeps me sane to have that cleansing routine to start my day. My DC are bathed almost every night. If i could do every night i would. I dont really care what other people do as long as they dont live with me.

SaucyJack · 06/11/2015 22:01

Everyone is different.

I have a bath every night. I do pong if I don't but I'm an oily-skinned type.

lucymootoo · 06/11/2015 22:02

Daily if I'm working or going out. If I'm planning on staying at home all day I would normally skip the shower and have a nice long bath in the evening.

BackInTheRealWorld · 06/11/2015 22:03

showerng twice a day seems excessive to me...and would dry my skin out horribly.
If it seems like a competitive statement just tell her you don't need to shower as much as her because you don't smell as bad as her.

carbcraver · 06/11/2015 22:03

This has made for an interesting read! My OH thinks I'm odd grubby for not showering daily. He does, but he's a smelly man! Physical job and stuff. I sit in an office 3 days a week. And don't smell! If I go to the gym, I shower as soon as I'm home.

I think daily (& definitely twice daily) is a tad excessive Hmm

Bunbaker · 06/11/2015 22:04

"and my hair looks awful if I shower every day."

That's why shower caps were invented Grin. My hair would look like straw if I washed it every day, so I wear a shower cap on non hair wash days. I can also remove the shower head from the wall and aim it everywhere except my head.

AliceInUnderpants · 06/11/2015 22:04

I have really greasy hair so could really do with it washed every day. However, I have a chronic pain condition so rarely manage to shower more than every second day, often only after 3 or 4 days if I don't /need/ to go out.
