To have realised that I just don't belong here?

Been here for donkeys years but reading recent threads, I realise that:

I don't really care if people pierce their babies or toddlers ears.

Can't get that worked up about male circumcision.

I like Mathew Wright

Am actually quite fond of WH Smiths

I like my in laws

I hate the phrase "wine o' clock"

There was something else also very important but I can't remember it.

Suggestions of suitable new hangouts that meet my superior/ inferior (depending on your viewpoint) tastes are welcome.

I love the wit of Mumsnetters (to wit on this thread), and that's why I stay.

Otherwise, I find my views very contrary to the sanctimonious twaddle I read on the threads that attract me like a sad and lonely moth to a dim flame.

Father Ted was/is shown in the US on PBS (the same network that shows Downton Abbey.) I wouldn't call it a hit, but it does have an audience in the US.

The Americans on MN are here because we have some association with and appreciation for the UK. And we do have a sense of humor. Honestly, we do.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 07/11/2015 19:04

but then the greatest sitcom comes from the states Seinfeld and also the other greatest funny programme (though not a sitcom or is it) Curb Your Enthusiasm but neither seem to be what I think of as American humour as they are very dry/dark

Benny Hill is very popular. Though I got rather confused I kept seeing Benny Hinn listed and mistook it for Benny Hill (well whats two letters) his shows were on all day Shock taking a closer look it was an evangelical chanel Benny Hinn is even more popular than Benny Hill

squoosh · 07/11/2015 19:09

I think starting a 'I don't fit in' thread means your feet are well and truly comfortably under the table.

squoosh · 07/11/2015 19:12

My Family, Terry & June, Last of the Summer Wine...........just three of many crappy British comedies. I wouldn't be too smug!

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 19:13

Also The a West Wing, The Wire, Breaking Bad - dramas with humour from the dark and macabre to the incredibly witty.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 07/11/2015 19:22

The Sopranos has some great comedy. Christopher's intervention is one of the funniest things I have ever seen and of course He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/11/2015 19:29

Why do people have to be pricks about SN on these threads.

Bambambini · 07/11/2015 20:22

My name is Earl cracks me up. Cheers was a great show.

I really don't think you can generalise about a place that size with so many people. They make some great comedy shows. Soap was also very funny and offbeat.

MrsJayy · 07/11/2015 20:55

And i feel sorry for the man in the moon in the Jl advert a telescope only highlights his lonliness

Snowcoveredthoughtcage · 07/11/2015 22:08

Matthew Wright always looks like he's just about to come........

Fairenuff · 07/11/2015 22:18

I watched the JL (without sound) and I didn't get it. Some old guy on the moon. Sad and lonely. Sits alone on a bench for ages. Balloons float all the way up there from earth but then, inexplicably, stay on the moon. He gets a gift. Then what?

Confused

I've never watched Father Ted or Seinfeld. Should I?

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 22:53

Jesus Christ Snowcoveredthoughtcage. That's a thought that's going to linger.

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 22:54

Father Ted is like Monty Python
Dreadful at times but many many moments of utter genius.
The priests caught in the underwear dept is my fav .

SenecaFalls · 07/11/2015 22:58

Speaking of MN wierdness, though, what is all of this stuff about "preppers" all of a sudden? I live in Florida and we, like most people here, have a hurricane kit, but that's it. Is this prepping business a thing now in the UK?

Bambambini · 07/11/2015 22:59

Racist, facist Ted and his Hitler moustache always raises a hearty laugh.

OP posts:
MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 23:01

Just discussing that on another thread Seneca. Prepping seems suddenly to be a 'thing' on MN. Some of it seems sensible, but some of it does seem bonkers.

I don't think I know anyone in RL who preps.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/11/2015 23:02

I adore Father Ted. The Lovely Girls competition and their lovely bottoms is one of my faves.

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 07/11/2015 23:02

I like WH Smiths too. A magnificent jumble in which you can find cheap paperbacks and cheap felt tip pens.

pigsDOfly · 07/11/2015 23:25

I keep seeing things about 'prepping' on here and have no idea what it means in any other context than preparing stuff to use later.

I assume it is preparing something, but what is being prepared and for what purpose? Are we talking about social collapse, war, Armageddon?

Can somebody please explain it to me?

Okay, thanks Arfarfanarf yeah, does sound a bit bonkers tbh.

Better dust off my gun and start digging a bunker under my house if I want to fit in with MN then.

Bloody hell, more work.

Bambambini · 08/11/2015 00:09

See, this whole prepping stuff has completely passed me by - know not a fuck what you're all going on about.
