To have realised that I just don't belong here?

Been here for donkeys years but reading recent threads, I realise that:

I don't really care if people pierce their babies or toddlers ears.

Can't get that worked up about male circumcision.

I like Mathew Wright

Am actually quite fond of WH Smiths

I like my in laws

I hate the phrase "wine o' clock"

There was something else also very important but I can't remember it.

Suggestions of suitable new hangouts that meet my superior/ inferior (depending on your viewpoint) tastes are welcome.

Yip, I always think that there is real life and Mumsnet life. I imagine a lot of people hold back from starting threads or making comments that they know do not fall into Mn life. My finger has hovered over the "post" button a few times thinking if I really want to go there. I like the little thrill of panic when you think "fuck it" and press the button knowing you can't just change your mind.

I agree with whoever said that there's a lot of squashing going on just now! Some poor people are torn to shreds!

The psychobabble bullshit spouted with such authority also bugs me.

It's not all bad though: I love the threads that have me in knots laughing! There was one about the weirdest things houseguests have ever done, one on embarrassing arse accidents and another that featured a great aunt who wanked her sweetheart using only her armpit in an air raid shelter during the blitz!

In those circumstances I can forgive 'hurrah' and 'gosh'. Just. Grin

The endless diagnosis of 'narc' is bizarre.

Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 22:58

I sometimes post a 'ah fuck it' post and then never go back to the thread

[life on the edge]

Mehitabel6 · 06/11/2015 23:00

I like the fact that we are all different and there is rarely a 'right' answer. A lot of posters find the 'right answer for them' and seem hell bent on thinking it is 'the right answer for everyone'- as if one size fits all. Life would be incredibly boring if we all thought the same. I particularly get irked by posts that start 'I don't understand why............' Just accept that you don't need to understand it. I don't understand why anyone likes football, wants a tattoo, or a whole host of things, but I accept that they do -and why not?

DixieDarling · 06/11/2015 23:01

I love swearing.
I own flannels and toilet brushes and even those scrunch washcloth things (and think I'm totally normal)
I have a 'baby on board' sign in my car
DH and I asked people who wanted to buy us a wedding present to contribute to our honeymoon (we didn't write a fucking poem though - ha)
I have a habit of joining threads a bit late and not reading the whole thing before commenting...

Bambambini · 06/11/2015 23:06

Ah,that's where I'm going wrong then, I can't resist going back and then have to deal with my pasting. Maybe once I never went back as I knew I had posted a totally twatty post.

I did one earlier on another thread and can't believe no one picked me up on it (yet). Nearly jumped in first to apologise and grovel.

ReluctantCamper · 06/11/2015 23:07

Ooh, Dixie, I was with you until not reading the thread.

I always wonder about people who don't read the thread - who do they think is reading their thrilling and inciteful comment if they can't be arsed to read anyone else's?

I went back to one weeks later and the asshat I was arguing with had posted about six times, clearly raging that I hadn't replied.

It was only because I had forgotten. I was accidentally more annoying than if I had replied.

Bambambini · 06/11/2015 23:11

That's really annoying Usual. How dare they ignore your "fuck it" post.

I always feel I'm missing the point somehow. Is there a backstory for this particular poster or is this some new cultural shizzle I'm behind on.

I can totally get getting sucked up into MN world to the detriment of RL. So ban MN! Well no, but. Someone said on another thread that people conform to their communities and that community may well be online. There's something to that

DixieDarling · 06/11/2015 23:13

Well, ReluctantCamper, I read some of it, clearly. Just sometimes get to page 4 or whatever and want to add something and cba to read another 17 pages before making a comment.

Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 23:15

I don't think there is a backstory or a cultural shizzle.
It's just a chatty thread about MN.
I wouldn't over think it.

Swirlysilver · 06/11/2015 23:18

MN is more sanctimonious because there are more people posting from the US and OZ a lot of whom just don't get 'it'

Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 23:20

Also, more sweeping cultural generalisations.

Swirlysilver · 06/11/2015 23:21

No just a fact having lived in both of those countries.

Bambambini · 06/11/2015 23:21

U2hastheedge - this is for you!

To have realised that I just don't belong here?

Bambambini · 06/11/2015 23:23

Nah, Cheerfulyank is one of my favourite posters - she's very luffley!

OP posts:
Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 23:24

Lol at 'fact'

Cheerful yank is a doll.

Crazypetlady · 06/11/2015 23:25

I don't really get all the PTA angst.
I like keira knightley may leave with you op.

don't know what wine o clock is (time for drink?)

don't like or hate my mil indifferent?, I dunno but I agree with most things you said OP

However the competing site which has a similar name I like it's polite nature but it seems a bit dull, everyone agrees with each other seems a bit dishonest to me, this place is more true to life, even though I hear the most ridiculous comments sometimes....

btw I don't know what Boden is seriously... (I'm onto to it with google)

Swirlysilver · 06/11/2015 23:31

Cheerful yank is one poster Hmm

How can you even tell who's from the US or OZ. I can tell generally by the tone and sanctimonious drone I would hear whilst living there.

Which is the whole point of this tossing post isn't it; why have posters changed.

So I'm giving my opinion which of course you decide to shoot down in flames; and there was I thinking I'd hit upon the cool kids at the back of the class.

I'm out of here don't even bother to flame me.

I just couldn't give a flying fuck
