Take a look at this article about supporting families of Transgender people by the Gires.org.uk Website to see why that view is so utterly incorrect and harmful?

doingthebest it's to do with the 'cotton ceiling'. A small group of transwomen want to have sex with lesbians and get a bit upset/stroppy when lesbians don't fancy them.
Again, that is a small number , and don't want to tar all transgender people with the same brush.

VashtaNerada · 01/11/2015 11:36

Of course cis privilege exists (whether you call it that or not). That doesn't feel in the least bit contentious to me. It's only contentious when someone on either side of the debate claims that other types of prejudice don't exist and seek to minimise what other groups are going through. I don't support that - whether it's trans activists or radical feminists who are doing it.

sianihedgehog · 01/11/2015 11:36

bubsandmoo are you most comfortable saying you are a woman? Congratulations, you identify as a woman. That's all it means. I'm hardly a pinnacle of femininity, but I'm comfortable saying that I'm a woman.

DoingTheBestICan · 01/11/2015 11:36

Absolutely agree, I am just concerned that transferring TH to a women's prison has long standing repercussions that will only impact on women - yet again.

FloraFox · 01/11/2015 11:37

It's not just a small group of MTTs noeffing. It's become fairly mainstream for lesbians to be required to declare themselves open to dating MTTs or be cast out as TERFs.

SlaggyIsland · 01/11/2015 11:38

siani you're being obtuse. When I refer to myself as a woman, I'm referring to my biological sex. It's a fact, not an identity.

howtorebuild · 01/11/2015 11:40

So a group of women are being abused for refusing sexual advances of penis owners? Nothing new there.

FloraFox · 01/11/2015 11:40

It's [cis privilege] only contentious when someone on either side of the debate claims that other types of prejudice don't exist and seek to minimise what other groups are going through.

The term "cis-privilege" in itself turns the oppression of women on its head by declaring the experience of being female a privilege. This is a lie.

Brioche201 · 01/11/2015 11:42

TH needs to be in a mens prison.s/he is male that is an undisputable genetic fact. How ever much a transgender wants to be the opposite sex, whatever treatment they have had they are and will always be their birth sex. It's loike saying I want to be an Olympic sprinter,I was just born into the wrong body!

abbieanders · 01/11/2015 11:43

It'ske saying I want to be an Olympic sprinter,I was just born into the wrong body!

You and Caitlyn Jenner would have much to discuss.

RobotDecoyWoman · 01/11/2015 11:43

doingthebest I'm not sure that being forced to share a cell with her would necessarily be any worse than being forced to share with another woman. However, it's common in prison to segregate or additionally supervise any prisoners who may be more likely to assault others or more at risk of assault themselves. Whether she is in the male or female system she is unlikely to share a cell if she is a risk.

SuburbanRhonda · 01/11/2015 11:50

bubsandmoo are you most comfortable saying you are a woman? Congratulations, you identify as a woman. That's all it means

Fuck me, you're patronising with it, aren't you, siani

redleotard · 01/11/2015 11:51

What the actual fuck is a feminine penis?

I call mine a clitoris.

noeffingidea · 01/11/2015 11:52

I hope so, Xxed.
I do believe the majority of transgendered people have genuine motivations and I wish them well. There clearly is an abusive element as well. I really had my eyes opened by reading a gay man's (primarily) forum.

sianihedgehog · 01/11/2015 11:52

Flora cis men have cis privilege that trans men do not.

MaudGonneMad · 01/11/2015 11:52

You don't think being forced to share a cell with someone who is the proud possessor of a 7 inch penis that they use to 'surprise' and penetrate others is in any way worse than sharing a cell with another woman?

Right.

RobotDecoyWoman · 01/11/2015 11:54

siani what if that person has been raped or sexually abused by a man in the past? As an adult or a child? Do you have any idea the kind of fear having to share a cell in those circumstances would cause?

Dismissing that possibility with a "not necessarily" flings the advances feminism has fought tooth and nail for back in the faces of the women who won so much of the "privilege" you enjoy.

Annwfyn · 01/11/2015 11:54

TheXxed - whereas I am pretty sure that in 50 years time this thread will read like the newspaper columns of the 1960s arguing that if God had meant white and black to marry, he wouldn't have placed them on different continents.

But I guess time will tell which one of us is right.

RobotDecoyWoman · 01/11/2015 11:55

Noeffingidea* I'm really interested in what was said on the gay man's forum, could you give me the gist? Thanks in advance.

DoingTheBestICan · 01/11/2015 11:56

sianihedgehogI'm not sure that being forced to share a cell with her would necessarily be any worse than being forced to share with another woman.

Really? So you would be happy to share a cell with a violent individual with a functioning 7" penis that they use to penetrate others as part of their job?

And if it is simply a case of just segregating her then why can't they do that in the male prison?

sianihedgehog · 01/11/2015 11:56

Rhonda that's not my intention, she said she did not understand what was meant by it. That is all it means.

BubsandMoo · 01/11/2015 11:59

Siani, people are going to not bother discussing with you if you continually demonstrate a lack of ability to listen/read what they are saying.

It is not about whether I feel "more comfortable saying I am a woman". I am simply a woman, it is a biological fact, not an identity I chose. Gender is foisted upon us by society. Our biological sex is still a fact.

I say this with respect, as someone who is still reading and learning and suspect I always will be: please spend more time gaining a background understanding of the issues before diving in calling people names. Read feminist theory, gender theory, queer theory. Read everything in a questioning manner. Respect other people's opinions and experience. Your enthusiasm is to be applauded, I mean that sincerely because these are important issues. But you are failing to defend your points and insulting people because it seems you haven't understood the issue and are not listening to what others are saying.

sianihedgehog · 01/11/2015 12:02

Doingthebest honestly, I'd rather not share a cell with anyone! But having a history of violence is pretty common in a prison, and I'm not sure that having a penis and being a sex worker are the worst other attributes my cellmate could possibly have!

Robot I would sincerely hope that a person with a specific issue with penises would not be forced to share a cell with someone who has one.
