To not 'get' Daniel Craig

Obviously I can see the obvious appeal Grin

To coincide with the new Bond film I've discussed this a couple of times recently. I find him uncharismatic, bland as an actor, and awkward in interviews. He's just about to appear on Graham Norton and I'm already cringing.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

i'm a fan but i think actors should be bland in rl.he has presence as an actor imo and is v nice to look at.

RomComPhooey · 23/10/2015 22:46

I liked his performance as Ted Hughes in Sylvia - it was brooding and compelling, though I'm now realising is not 100 miles from his brooding Bond.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/10/2015 22:47

I can take him or leave him. I'm looking forward to watching him in Spectre, but I don't care if he's in the next James Bond or not.

We all have actors we idolise, actors we love, actors we hate. But the vast majority of actors will be in the middle section of ok/acceptable/does the job. Daniel Craig is in that middle section for me.

hebihebi · 23/10/2015 22:47

I think he's a grumpy bugger in real life too. He is handsome though.

NoMoreGrimble · 23/10/2015 22:48

I don't get him either, looks like he needs a good wash!

alteredimages · 23/10/2015 22:49

Yeah, he seems a bit blah as an actor to me too. Even in Our Friends in the North I thought he put in the weakest performance.

BikeRunSki · 23/10/2015 22:49

I think it mostly about the obvious tbh.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 23/10/2015 22:49

I think he's too pouty to be Bond.

He'd be good as the new Frank'n'Furter if Hollywood insist on remaking it. Can he sing?

LuluJakey1 · 23/10/2015 22:49

I am not a big fan but I agree with RomCom about him as Ted Hughes in 'Sylvia'. I go all funny inside when he reads the Yeats.

Whathaveilost · 23/10/2015 22:50

It's horses for courses isn't it. We can't all like the same.

minesapintofwine · 23/10/2015 22:54

kingjoffrey YES you are right about him being too pouty for Bond!

The thing is he looks good but I keep wanting him to crack a joke, or do a dance, or something scandalous. He seems like a nice guy, which is great, but blah.

I just can't believe someone can be allll about the looks. Which I think he is. I'm naive aren't I?

Had a real crush on him a good few years ago. He's not great in interviews but that's ok - I don't mind that. Loved him in Layercake and think he's a very good Bond. I really like Naomi Harris though.

howtorebuild · 23/10/2015 22:57

I hope Henry Cavill gets the gig this time.

Daniel Craig and Ralf Reines in one room, how was there any space for Judy, two massic egos Envy

minesapintofwine · 23/10/2015 22:58

what I totally agree with you. This one is the only one that I just can't see. I feel like I'm on a different wavelength which is strange for me cos my friends all lurve him. Even my dh is enamoured!

I just needed to know I wasn't alone in this Grin

Total misspell en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Fiennes

ImperialBlether · 23/10/2015 23:01

I just can't see it, either. He leaves me cold.

minesapintofwine · 23/10/2015 23:04

I haven't seen Sylvia but Ill give it a try! I'm open minded and willing to change my opinion.

Waffling on, I also find Nicholas Cage meh as an actor (but a bit better in interviews).Always in great films though. Like Daniel Craig and Mark Wahlberg but I will try to stop slating people now

He is a dad, like other dads, that would drive down the road to drop off and pick up his daughter to visit my friends dd, who lived next door. In a regular council home.

She is a girl, who would come into my friends house, fall into her sofa, pet her animals, and just chill.

Famous people have every day lives too!

BrandNewAndImproved · 23/10/2015 23:09

He was really good in the girl with the dragon tattoo.

QuintShhhhhh · 23/10/2015 23:10

oh bloody hell, first bottle of wine in aeons, and I go all mushy.

Shakey15000 · 23/10/2015 23:11

I quite like the fact that he's, in the main, non gimmicky as Bond. Just broody, slightly troubled, focused. His looks are distinctly scrummy in my book Smile but..ahem..yes...back to the acting credentials. Not seen Sylvia either, must give it a whirl.

minesapintofwine · 23/10/2015 23:18

quint that was so poetic Wink

Actually, I did see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and didn't mind him in that, but I think the film made him rather than the other way around, iyswim.

Bambambini · 23/10/2015 23:20

Don't like Sam Smith's song though.

HopefulAnxiety · 23/10/2015 23:20

I don't even see 'the obvious'!

BrandNewAndImproved · 23/10/2015 23:21

Good point the film did work for him then.
