To not 'get' Daniel Craig

Obviously I can see the obvious appeal Grin

To coincide with the new Bond film I've discussed this a couple of times recently. I find him uncharismatic, bland as an actor, and awkward in interviews. He's just about to appear on Graham Norton and I'm already cringing.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

I think he takes himself too seriously.

DrasticAction · 24/10/2015 08:43

yes vulcan way to seriously, you need someone with a careless devil may care attitude...

he is just so bloody wrong but the brocoli woman, really fancied that chef on bbc didnt she, so perhaps not best person to have been involved inthe choice...James Martin Confused

VulcanWoman · 24/10/2015 08:50

Before Pierce Brosnan was Bond, I thought that he would make the ideal Bond and he did IMO.
Every time I see Sean Connery now though after his abusive comment about Women it's put me off him.
Idris Elba for next Bond!

New suggestion? Smile

Oh I get him. I, errrrrrr.... "knew" Daniel Craig many moons ago when he wasn't nearly so famous. Met him at a party through mutual friends. Memories... Mmmmm... He's charismatic, extremely sexy, and unpredictable in a "fuck this lets have an adventure" way. All which adds up to a rather alluring man. He's funny too. I remember when he got made Bond I thought "yes! Of course! He's perfect!" and that he'd make a fantastic Bond. I still think that.

My husband always watches me very carefully when he's on TV or in a film...

The public side if him can be a bit miserable though: He can be fucking grumpy in interviews but then in those movie junkets so many actors are fucking grumpy.

cathyandclaire · 24/10/2015 09:02

I don't find him particularly attractive but I think he's a great actor and a very believable Bond. I read all the books as a child and am not sure that cheeky is right for the character, ruthless and brooding is more in keeping.
As for Broccoli getting it wrong- he was the star of the most successful Bond film by far and the most profitable film in British Box Office History, she'll be laughing all the way to the bank!
Not sure about James Martin though Grin

cathyandclaire · 24/10/2015 09:03

Cobbler Shock

JazzAnnNonMouse · 24/10/2015 09:04

He's not my favourite bond but I think that's in part because I don't find him attractive at all.
He seems a bit grumpy and pouty in interviews but he can act so meh.

DrasticAction · 24/10/2015 09:05

Its wonderful you had that personal experience with him Grin but its not translating to the screen.

he seems repressed somehow

DrasticAction · 24/10/2015 09:06

cathy I think any actor would have done well in the role it was a good film, I believe all the other names would have pulled in as miuch.

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 24/10/2015 09:08

I don't rate his acting, and I think he looks too much like a King Edward potato to be attractive. The great big man-tits do nothing for me I'm afraid.

I don't watch Bond films though, so can't get excited about who should be in them. Unless it was Idris.

PunkrockerGirl · 24/10/2015 09:11

I agree, OP. I've seen him interviewed a few times over the last few days and, tbh, my wardrobe's got more charisma and is less wooden.

MamaLazarou · 24/10/2015 09:20

I always thought he was weird-looking and couldn't see the appeal at all. But then I saw him in a film (not a brilliant film) and completely understood: he has a lovely on-screen presence and the camera loves him.

cathyandclaire · 24/10/2015 09:20

I heard Sam Mendes interviewed and the whole development of the film was the two of them working together, way before the first day on set. The Bond is key. It wouldn't have been the same film with another actor.

Destinysdaughter · 24/10/2015 09:22

I don't get him either and to me, Bond is dark not blonde. Now who I think would make a brilliant bond is Aiden Turner. Brooding good looks and a six pack to rival Daniel's! Yum!!!Smile

Moln · 24/10/2015 09:30

I frequently mix up Bradley Copper and Tom Hardy with the cyclist and the diver. Which makes it all very confusing!,

Daniel Craig is by far (by that I mean the only one) the best Bond. The rest were just tiresome, loathe that smooth charming character, that men are supposed envy and women desire. Daniel Craig gave Bond faults, and I like that.

DrasticAction · 24/10/2015 09:34

very apt

regenerationfez · 24/10/2015 09:37

Oh God No howtorebuild Not Henry Cavell- talk about looks over personality! (See unreasonable dislike thread) I have never seen him in anything, but there is just something about him that makes me think he's really unpleasant. Whenever I hear him talk about women, it always seems to be in a slightly lascivious, actually typically Bond, way, but I get the feeling hes like that in real life.

BTW, I never used to see the appeal of Daniel Craig, but hes grown on me a bit!

VulcanWoman · 24/10/2015 09:38

Would Aiden Turner be a bit too rugged.

ReggaeShark · 24/10/2015 09:43

I think he's a really good actor. I would watch anything with him in it. His performance in "Our Friends in the North" was heart breaking. Just wish he could do wry humour, which is what is missing from his Bond, for me.

Moln · 24/10/2015 09:55

Iris Elba would be great in the sinister and mean way but he's way to buff. Bond is tall and thin - which for some reason is the only characteristic I find important!! I think it because the body shape makes more of a difference to their perceived character and physical appearance than hair, skin or eye colour does.

VulcanWoman · 24/10/2015 10:02

I'd say Idris has the same type of build as Connery.
I think of Idris as being a goody, probably his Mandela role.

Bambambini · 24/10/2015 10:03

He is a great Bond and many serious Bond fans agree he is possibly the closest portrayal to literary Bond there has been. Dalton was also another great Bond who often gets overlooked.

Fassbender could make a great Bond but might be too big a name. Or he might think it's a safe bet and easy gig for moving into his 40's.

Sparklingbrook · 24/10/2015 10:09

Can I ask a dumb Bond question? Are the films still from the books or are they just churning them out?

Nataleejah · 24/10/2015 10:16

He's ok as 007, but a terrible miscast for a Girl with Dragon Tattoo
