to think I'll never have swooshy hair

How do these girls do it? I was following a girl the other day (in the street, not stalking!!) and her beautiful hair, full at the crown, in a pony tail, went SWOOSH to the left, SWOOSH to the right. It was a sight to behold.

My own hair has a mind of its own. If I try to use volumising mousse and put it in a pony tail then I look like Princess Anne. My hair is full at the sides and limp at the back. I've tried different blow drying techniques, I've tried rollers, but no. I will never have swooshy hair.

I worked with a lady who had beautiful swooshy hair. I asked her how she did it and she said "Oh, this old mop? I just washed it and let it dry naturally." NO YOU DIDN'T, YOU BITCH.

How? How do you do it? Come on wags, teenagers and lovely haired people. Tell me your secrets Angry

Hair extensions.

BoboChic · 01/10/2015 11:24

My DD (10) has naturally swooshy hair that she just washes and leaves to dry naturally. I did at her age and until my mid 20s. The texture changes as you get older and you need more conditioner and blow drying to get the same effect.

katemiddletonsothermum · 01/10/2015 11:24

Is that your real user name or did you name change purely for this thread? sings "she's so vain, she's sure you think this name change is about youuuuuu."

My teenage DD has lovely swishy hair.

Her method seems to be to dye it strange colours and straighten it to death

I have a Babylis Big Hair which has done wonders for limpness and it's a lot smoother and less fly away

katemiddletonsothermum · 01/10/2015 11:25

bobochic - MORE conditioner????? but then my hair goes really really limp...

I have swooshy hair. I wash it about three times a week and let it dry naturally. That's it. Only about 3 greys, and I am 42, the rest remains a glorious glossy chestnut.

If it makes you feel better, I am short, fat and have a huge spot coming up on the end of my nose which is making me look like Rudolph. But yeah, great hair.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 01/10/2015 11:25

I paid an eye watering amount for hair extensions a few years back. My hair is thin thin thin. Balmain or Pro styles, done in salons, price c£600. Although now I'm also going very grey on top of the thinning at the grand old age of 29, I also wear wigs most days.

Tootsiepops · 01/10/2015 11:32

Hair extensions - definitely. Can be clip in.

Or, pregnancy. I have gloriously thick swishy hair atm, but the baby is due in 7 weeks, and I'm told it'll mostly fall out after the birth so I'm getting my extensions ready again.

plantsitter · 01/10/2015 11:34

Mrs Rinky... Are you me? I came on to say EXACTLY the same thing

noeffingidea · 01/10/2015 11:35

My hair is thick but it isn't swooshy. It never looks smooth and shiny, no matter what products I use or how carefully I blowdry or straighten it.
Now I don't bother, I have it cut to suit it's own texture and let it be itself.
It looks fine as it is .
It might just be that your hair isn't meant to be swooshy OP but it can look great in another way.

PrimalLass · 01/10/2015 11:36

To get a swooshy high ponytail I have to straighten my hair first. Otherwise it looks like a fox's tail.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/10/2015 11:38

I will NEVER have swooshy hair, and I never have had it. Curly, and fine. Impossible to swoosh.

SaucyJack · 01/10/2015 11:42

No idea. I have big thick hair, but it doesn't swoosh. I'm a hair double for Russell Brand in my spare time.

I'm often to be found in the shampoo aisle, wistfully stroking the argan oil products.

SistersOfPercy · 01/10/2015 11:45

Swooshy hair is overrated. It sticks to your lip gloss, drips in your soup and you can't see a bloody thing when it's windy.
Oh, and tying it up results in a headache because it's so heavy on your scalp.

katemiddletonsothermum · 01/10/2015 11:45

Hmnnn, ok..... not a lot else to say! Grin

Mine swooshes if it's just been washed, dried, straightened and covered in product. The next morning it's back to my usual rats nest.

My son is a 15 yr old metal head with very long hair. His swooshes when it's greasy, when it's wet and when it's just been dried. If he gets a bad grade he'll say, 'yes, but I have fabulous hair'.

TheSpottedZebra · 01/10/2015 11:47

I used to have AMAZING hair, really thick, shiny and swooshy. It was a bit of a faff as it took ages to dry but needed washing a it, but did look good. It was the only thing I had going for me, looks wise.

Then it fell out, mostly and now what's left is thin, grey, dry and shit.

I miss my swishy hair!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 01/10/2015 11:47

I have to straighten my hair for true swishiness as it has a bit of a wave and is thick

What helps enormously is using products with no silicon

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/10/2015 11:49

I just wash it and let it dry naturally. Sorry. Blush

FanOfSpam · 01/10/2015 11:49

YABU to post in AIBU. Go to 'Inane Bullshit' instead.

BabyGanoush · 01/10/2015 11:53

Yes, avoid silicone

And avoid Fanof spam ??

SistersOfPercy · 01/10/2015 11:55

Perhaps FanOfSpam could point us in the direction of the list of acceptable topics for AIBU?

Those type of posts always amuse me. 'Inane Bullshit' yet they take the time to open the thread and reply. Hmm

ghostyslovesheep · 01/10/2015 11:59

jesus at least this inane bullshit is a refuge from the endless 'celeb gossip / TV 'AIBU' posts!

I have thick shiny hair - I blow dry it upside down and leave it - but it can be a bit too thick to swish and not quiet long enough

in fact can anyone give me tips on making the bugger grow faster - 2 years it's barely past my shoulders

katemiddletonsothermum · 01/10/2015 12:18

Does fanofspam like junk mail or that evil pork by product in a can?

Thanks for your tips - interesting point about silicone Gobbolinothewitchscat I think Pantene is a bit of culprit for silicone, isn't it? I had a hair dresser who tut tutted a lot when I said i used to use it.

Back to inane bullshit - at least I hope this thread is better than the one I originally intended to post which was "AIBU to prop my bed up with a car jack as it dips in the middle?" Someone answer this before I make my trip to Halford.

My old bed was propped up with a big plastic box with books on the top. I'd have to rearrange the books every night if we'd had a particularly a'hem restless night.
