to think I'll never have swooshy hair

How do these girls do it? I was following a girl the other day (in the street, not stalking!!) and her beautiful hair, full at the crown, in a pony tail, went SWOOSH to the left, SWOOSH to the right. It was a sight to behold.

My own hair has a mind of its own. If I try to use volumising mousse and put it in a pony tail then I look like Princess Anne. My hair is full at the sides and limp at the back. I've tried different blow drying techniques, I've tried rollers, but no. I will never have swooshy hair.

I worked with a lady who had beautiful swooshy hair. I asked her how she did it and she said "Oh, this old mop? I just washed it and let it dry naturally." NO YOU DIDN'T, YOU BITCH.

How? How do you do it? Come on wags, teenagers and lovely haired people. Tell me your secrets Angry

OK. Tomorrow I have a school reunion. Tonight I will wash it in cheap shampoo, won't use conditioner, will wrap it in an old T shirt, then tomorrow I will let it hang au naturel. I'll brush it with a boars' bristle brush and only lightly straighten it. And it had better be swooshy, girls, no pressure Wink

I have sort-of-swooshy hair. My hair is very fine but there's a lot of it. In fact every hairdresser I've ever had has made that precise comment at least once (in annoyed tones) halfway through applying my highlights as they realised they have to keep going for while longer...

My only advice, as a 38 year old is don't wash it too often. I wash my hair 5 times a fortnight only. I'm busy and I exercise 5 times a week but if you train your hair to get used to being washed every 3-4 days it really does start getting into better condition! Moroccan oil on my hair ends - never near the scalp and a tiny touch of styling creme seems to make for a good blow dry effect. Short term solution for volume - dry shampoo.

Actually I always rather liked Naomi Watt's hair, which is definitely fine and not swooshy. Rather envy her that.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the Fibrology shampoo for us fine-ies. It's very good, but use HOT water to wash it our and no conditioner. My mum recommended it and I was suspicious, but it thickens my very baby-hairesque soft, blonde fine stuff without making to greasy looking, which is all any of the other volumising shampoos ever did...

I've got a pixie crop at the min but when I get bored of it I'm going to get a full weave. Swishy hair WILL be mine.

Mine is pretty swooshy... I'm afraid I do just wash it and let it dry, because I have an 11 month old DS and hair dryers and styling are things of the past for now.

Truckingalong · 04/10/2015 11:55

Fibrology is the best thicken shampoo bar none, I agree.

I had swooshy hair today, thanks to this thread.

I used ordinary shampoo and expensive Kiehls conditioner. I blow dried it upside down and put Philip Kingsley stuff on the roots. Dried the rest of it using a big round brush, a paddle brush and a hair direr with the nozzle on.

But what made the difference I think (no frizz, lots of shine) is that I then Elnetted the fuck out of it! So thanks for that tip!
