to think I'll never have swooshy hair

How do these girls do it? I was following a girl the other day (in the street, not stalking!!) and her beautiful hair, full at the crown, in a pony tail, went SWOOSH to the left, SWOOSH to the right. It was a sight to behold.

My own hair has a mind of its own. If I try to use volumising mousse and put it in a pony tail then I look like Princess Anne. My hair is full at the sides and limp at the back. I've tried different blow drying techniques, I've tried rollers, but no. I will never have swooshy hair.

I worked with a lady who had beautiful swooshy hair. I asked her how she did it and she said "Oh, this old mop? I just washed it and let it dry naturally." NO YOU DIDN'T, YOU BITCH.

How? How do you do it? Come on wags, teenagers and lovely haired people. Tell me your secrets Angry

I read once, years ago, that those little bugs you get in old books grow in your hair if you go to bed with it wet. I think I read it in a fascinating facts page in my Grandma's Daily Express in the 70s but I might have dreamt it Confused

Ememem84 · 01/10/2015 18:04

I have thick swooshy hair. I e started using tresseme keratin shampoo. In the red bottle. It's made it swooshier. And body shop macadamia nut oil balm for shiny.

Second the previous poster who said only washing it a couple of times a week. I do mine three times (twice if I can get away with it). And it's never been in better condition.

I love a swooshy pony tail me.

Irosstaketheerachel · 01/10/2015 18:07

I want Elizabeth Hurley hair and EH boobs too. Instead I'm cursed with Kate Moss tatty hair and KM pancake boobs.

No matter what I do to my hair I always look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. Actually, I just look more like the hedge Sad

Ememem84 · 01/10/2015 19:33

I have ginormous norks too

Stillwishihadabs · 01/10/2015 20:22

I have swishy hair aged 39 as does Dm aged 66 and Dd aged 9. I think it just grows that way tbh. It is at its swishiest at just above shoulder length, it has a natural wave, is very thick (again fine hairs but loads of them) and I only blow dry in an emergency (no hair dresser has ever made it look better than it does if just left to dry naturally, better still in the sun).

greenhill · 01/10/2015 20:37

katemiddletonsothermum can you blow dry the roots to prevent the headache?

stillwishihadabs I hate going to the hairdressers as I come out with poker straight hair with a centre parting that reminds me of Morticia Addams. And I've handed over £50 to make me look like that.

GrinAndTonic · 01/10/2015 22:05

I have insanely thick frizzy wavy bendy hair that takes forever to dry and is never swooshy. I'm with Greenhill if I go to bed with it wet I wake up with hair bigger then most 80's bands combined.

OhYeahMama · 01/10/2015 22:09

I have very fine hair but swooshy. I dry upside down, straightening brush to straighten, real bristle brush to smooth.

katemiddletonsothermum · 01/10/2015 22:12

greenhill - If I do that then my hair looks like it's been electrocuted. It stands up vertically on the top, out horizontally at the sides but completely flat at the back. Balm or finishing product just makes my hair stiff, not swooshy.

Oh, I give up.

The benefits of a real bristle brush

RockinHippy · 01/10/2015 22:24

My DD also amazing waist length swooshy hair, that she washes with lush bar shampoo & leaves to dry naturally. She plaits it for bed if she wants swooshy "beach waves"

Mine needs a bit more help these days, so I use Aragon oil

lazyglazy · 01/10/2015 22:25

Take consolation in the fact that Kate Middletons hair isn't her own. The only thing that swishes are her very expensive extensions.

CakeNinja · 01/10/2015 23:01

I have swishing swooshy hair.
It literally takes me hours to achieve and I rarely bother.
Last week I had coiffed it for an occasion and then gone to the gym afterwards. As I getting off the treadmill, the man who was on the bike behind me said "your hair was like a horses tail, all glossy and swishy."
I took it as a compliment though I have no idea if that was his intention. It really says a lot that I was so happy to be compared to a horses shit fly swat Grin

SistersOfPercy · 01/10/2015 23:08

Tresseme does not agree with my hair, nor head and shoulders actually. I waver between aussie and a lush shampoo bar. I can go 5-7 days between washes some weeks. When I was a kid my hair touched the back of my knees so a once a week wash torture was the only solution, I've been fortunate to stick with that. It's not as long now, probably a couple of inches below my bra strap but I'd love to be able to sit on it again.

mimishimmi · 02/10/2015 01:37

I have long swooshy hair and do pretty much what that lady said. I try to avoid using shampoo unless pressed for time (use Indian herbal mixture) and I lightly oil it with coconut oil. It gets washed with either shampoo or the mixture once a week, rest of the time just rinsed with water. Very rarely use hairdryer.

steff13 · 02/10/2015 01:43

What is swooshy hair? How do I know if I have it?

Crosbybeach · 02/10/2015 06:30

I have short red hair, fine but loads of it, it's really thick for that reason and tremendously well behaves. Usually leave it to dry, no grey at 45 at all.

But if long it just looks like a dead cat on my head, no swoosh.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 02/10/2015 06:33

Is swooshy hair different to swishy hair? This is vital.
Mine is after blow drying, but natual drying or getting damp gives me very ugly not quite wavy but not straight flat but frizzy hair. A ibit mad cat lady.
Kare m has extensions?!?

noeffingidea · 02/10/2015 06:39

steff think shampoo adverts. It's long, thick, shiny has life and body, moves rather than just hanging there.
At least that's what I think the OP meant.

SevenSeconds · 02/10/2015 07:25

Not sure if mine is swooshy, but I do have long thick bouncy hair (4-5 inches below my shoulders). I honestly do just wash it (once every 5 days or so) with normal cheap shampoo and conditioner and leave it to dry naturally. That's it. Sorry OP.

Are you sure Kate M has hair extensions? I don't think she does at all. Her hair is actually pretty normal. She's always had hair like that and its just that nowadays she gets a blow dry every time she's seen in public.

SistersOfPercy · 02/10/2015 07:46

perfect my wife hair

Lmao. Nice spam, made me laugh.

BrandNewAndImproved · 02/10/2015 07:49

Is there a correlation between blow drying hair and grey hair?
