Called "unprofessional" for doing the school run in PJs

Snide comment from someone else. Wtf should i wear for a professional school drop off? I do live in my PJs and love it while I'm not working. Often have two pairs a day so its not dirty. Aibu to do this?

Is this a wind up? Of course you shouldn't go out in your pjs. Stick a pair of jeans and a jumper on like normal people

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 24/09/2015 18:27

Nope. Then again, I'd be fully buff doing most things if I didn't fear arrest, so maybe I'm also unreasonable.

Sirzy · 24/09/2015 18:27

Yes yabu to do the school run in pjs. No adult should be doing a school run in PJs!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/09/2015 18:27

YABU obviously

Pollyisnthere · 24/09/2015 18:28

Obviously I'm not walking. But in the car usually with a coat on top, so you'd have to be really nosey to even notice.

This has to be a wind up. School run k pjs is an absolute no.

HairyChestedFrog · 24/09/2015 18:29

YANBU. Do what you like, where's the harm?

Bulbasaur · 24/09/2015 18:29

I go shopping in PJ's and no one seems to care, I've actually gotten compliments on my pajama pants.

Just ignore, if you're comfy and you're only dropping off your kid, who cares what someone else thinks? She's not your boss is she?

DextersMistress · 24/09/2015 18:29

Unprofessional isn't correct. Lazy and scruffy maybe Wink

I love my pjs and wear them whenever I'm at home but even I can stretch to joggers for the school run. Yabu.

iwantavuvezela · 24/09/2015 18:29

Personally I cannot imagine a situation where I would go to school (or somewhere out) in my Pj,s. I am not sure why, but like wearing a swimming costume and not at the beach / pool I would feel under dressed.

I will pull on a pair of jeans or suchlike, throw on a jumper and go to school, I have no worries about the smartness level as such. Even when I was in bed / at home for two weeks with chicken pox and I had to go out I still pulled on some clothes.

EmmaWoodlouse · 24/09/2015 18:30

I wouldn't go out in PJs personally but the use of the word "unprofessional" is a bit U IMO. The school run is not a profession so why should you have to look professional?

beaucoupdemojo · 24/09/2015 18:30

Are you a cm or nanny? Not sure why you would need to look professional otherwise. Your life, your choice I suppose, if you are not being paid as a nanny ( in which case I'd say your employer has a right to ask you to be properly dressed).

badgergirl82 · 24/09/2015 18:30

It's definitely become an 'okay' thing to do but I don't really like it to be honest. That said it isn't hurting anybody.

Murfles · 24/09/2015 18:30

YABU. It only takes a minute or so to put other clothes on. So, do you get up and put clean PJ's on to walk to the car and do the school run?

spanisharmada · 24/09/2015 18:30

School run in your PJs is the height of luxury Grin

Spidertracker · 24/09/2015 18:30

It's not unprofessional because there is no requirement to be professional on the school run.
It is a bit slovenly in my opinion but then again if you have nice cotton pjs under a coat you might look better than the baggy jogging bottoms tucked into ugg boots lot.

Figgygal · 24/09/2015 18:31

No way should any grown person go out in pjs YABU!!!!

Are you a teacher at the school? That's the only way I'd think possibly a tad unprofessional.
But put some fucking clothes on! You can always change back into jammies when you get home (like loads of the rest of us!)

Pico2 · 24/09/2015 18:32

Whilst I wouldn't do the school run in pjs, the misuse of 'professional'/'unprofessional' is far worse.

GreatFuckability · 24/09/2015 18:32

There have been mornings when I've driven my kids to school bare foot cos I can't find my shoes. So I can't say I care what other people wear.

Songofsixpence · 24/09/2015 18:33

YANBU regarding looking 'professional' for the school run, but VU for pyjamas out of the house

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/09/2015 18:34

Well - since there is no unique professional qualification for doing the school run, it cannot be a professional activity, therefore she was a twat for calling you unprofessional.

But I am not a fan of pyjamas as outdoor/outside the house attire. It looks as if the wearer has climbed out of bed, bunged on shoes and coat, and headed out without any sort of wash. Even if you have washed/showered, and have put on clean pyjamas, it still looks as if you haven't.

EatDessertFirst · 24/09/2015 18:34

School run in your PJs is lazy and ridiculous. At least put on some leggings or jeans (surely when you pull PJ bottoms down to have a morning wee you can just shuffle them all the way off then pull on some other bottoms??) and stick a jumper on? My children would be mortified if I dropped them off in my PJs.

Narp · 24/09/2015 18:35

I don't have a problem with taking kids to school in pyjamas. Pyjamas mostly look like joggers and a t-shirt these days?

Are people out there checking if someone has showered or brushed their teeth. It isn't anyone else's business.

The only exception to that might be if someone close to you is concerned that maybe you are depressed or something.

The 'unprofessional' comment was idiotic.
