Snide comment from someone else. Wtf should i wear for a professional school drop off? I do live in my PJs and love it while I'm not working. Often have two pairs a day so its not dirty. Aibu to do this?

I would live in my pjs if I could, but I wouldn't be seen dead outside the house in them Grin. YABVU

goblinhat · 24/09/2015 20:02

Dirty.

You have got out of bed, not washed and going out in the same clothes you have slept in?

You must stink.

reni2 · 24/09/2015 20:03

I actually think brokenhearted has it right: "Do people really .. go out .. with an unwashed arse and armpits?" I never realised it, but that's what I find uncomfortable when seeing PJs out on the street, because jogging bottoms and t-shirts look similar and I don't even notice them.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 24/09/2015 20:07

Dowdy, slovenly, slatternly?! Is this a 1950s guide to women-specific insults?! Grin

goblinhat · 24/09/2015 20:07

Exactly- the first thing I want to do in the morning is jump in the shower for a scrub, put my pjs in the laundry basket and put on clean clothes.

I wouldn't go out is stinking pjs.

quicklydecides · 24/09/2015 20:07

Every single time I've ever seen anyone in real life in their pyjamas, they look Disgusting, Unwashed, Drug addicted or Hungover, and generally Dirty and Struggling.
But in here they always try to pretend that they wash, put on fresh new pyjamas, and off they go.
No you don't.
If you are wearing pyjamas, you you are failing in life.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/09/2015 20:09

Even if someone does have a shower and put on clean pjs, it still gives the impression they have rolled out of bed, not washed, and gone out.

And if you have showered, why not pull on some clothes, rather than pjs? As others have said - yoga pants and t-shirt/top, or jeans and jumper. I have a couple of Jersey maxi dresses that are as comfortable as my nightshirt, and I will pull them on - after suitable ablutions, and over clean undies - when I want a slouchy, comfortable day. I would only keep my nightshirt on if I was planning to plot up on the couch all day - a duvet day - and if I needed to go out, I would get dressed.

DinosaursRoar · 24/09/2015 20:10

Slattern is a great word.

I think not washing/putting on day clothes (regardless of how smart or not they are) is a sign of not really having much self respect, and at some point, obviously having no respect for yourself will be embarrassing for your DCs.

careeristbitchnigel · 24/09/2015 20:14

Well the plus side about going to a school where a lot of the catchment area is very, very deprived is that nobody judges you on what you wear to do the school run. There aren't any bitchy cliques in our playground ! Pyjamas is fairly standard wear. You could turn up in a paper suit direct from custody and nobody would bat an eyelid

CookieMonsterIsOnADiet · 24/09/2015 20:19

I couldn't embarrass myself or children like that, it takes seconds to get dressed.

What if you break down or the teacher wants a word?

Ayejackyourl8 · 24/09/2015 20:21

That must be mortifying for your children. I also think you are setting a poor example- you surely expect your children to look smart and up early ready for school for a full day but it is ok for you to still have your pyjamas on? Sorry to be harsh but I would judge you as very lazy or would think you were very poorly if I witnessed that as a parent or teacher- whoever told you it looks a mess is trying to help you. It takes no effort to put some jeans and a jumper on.

Pollyisnthere · 24/09/2015 20:24

Gosh I don't sleep in my PJs. I sleep nude.

Usually don't shower until the evening. It really isn't good for your skin to shower too often, maybe in the summer a morning shower is needed but its cold here.

var123 · 24/09/2015 20:25

Trying to think of why i'd leave the house in my pyjamas. If there was a fire? If an axe murderer was inside. If one of the Dc was choking to death and I needed urgent help.
Otherwise, put some clothes on FGS!

Slattern or sloven would have been accurate though, unless you work at the school.

goblinhat · 24/09/2015 20:26

So why dress in PJs deliberately to do the school run?

Sounds like you are trying to make a statement.

BastardGoDarkly · 24/09/2015 20:26

So why choose PJs when getting dressed then?

Don't your kids say.... Why aren't you getting dressed to go out mum you're embarrassing me, no other mums wear PJs to school ?

clairemum22 · 24/09/2015 20:28

If you go out wearing pj's does that mean you don't have any underwear on? Or do you wear underwear to bed under pj's or do you have to put underwear on in the morning then yr pj's again? I don't get it!

clairemum22 · 24/09/2015 20:29

Sorry polly just seen your post. Hadn't realised the thread had 2 pages.

Pollyisnthere · 24/09/2015 20:29

I pop them on as soon as I'm out of bed. Tbh they don't really look much different than gym wear.

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/09/2015 20:30

I would shower/wash at the start of the day - I like to start the day feeling fresh and clean - why waste that nice clean feeling on being asleep?

And if you are putting on pjs, why not put on yoga pants and t-shirt, or jeans and a top? You can wear something as comfortable as pjs that are still proper day-clothes.

FunkyPeacock · 24/09/2015 20:32

'Unprofessional' isn't the first adjective that springs to mind but I would definitely be judging you

If you don't care what others (including your own DC) think then go ahead

I can't personally think of any good reason to be out & about in your nightwear

QuintShhhhhh · 24/09/2015 20:33

Surely PJs are THE Work Attire to wear on the school run for a professional sahm, so whats wrong?

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2015 20:33

Surely it's not good for some people's skin to shower daily but the majority of us manage fine.

goblinhat · 24/09/2015 20:34

polly- given that some other clothes are just as easy to wear and as comfortable as PJs, then why not wear something more appropriate?
Something that will cause less embarrassment to your kids and negative judgement from teachers and others.

It sounds as if you are wearing PJs to draw attention to yourself

DinosaursRoar · 24/09/2015 20:35

Showering in the evening rather than the morning isn't bad or a problem at all, lots of people do that, but then they wear real actual clothes to go out of the house. It's even weirder that you aren't sleeping in them, but getting dressed in PJs, bedclothes you own just to use as dayclothes - why buy them in the first place when you could, you know, buy real clothes and wear them in the day instead? Confused

goblinhat · 24/09/2015 20:35

Maybe it's a regional thing.

I know of no-one who wears pjs to. the school run.
