Snide comment from someone else. Wtf should i wear for a professional school drop off? I do live in my PJs and love it while I'm not working. Often have two pairs a day so its not dirty. Aibu to do this?

This has got to be one of the laziest things I've ever heard of

Brioche201 · 24/09/2015 18:50

Are you getting out of the car?

ChocolateJam · 24/09/2015 18:51

My friend's mum drove her to school wearing her pj's once and on the way home her car broke down... I think from then on she got dressed for the school run!

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 24/09/2015 18:51

I've yet to anyone ever doing the school run in their pjs - it just doesn't happen at dc's school.

YABU - I wear pjs/loungewear a lot in the house - but outdoors - No. You can get comfy clothes that aren't jimjams to wear outside.

Snoopadoop · 24/09/2015 18:55

No you are not unprofessional, you are lazy. Get dressed! Having said that in guessing this is a joke thread.

BackforGood · 24/09/2015 18:55

Unprofessional is the wrong word - well, unless you work at the school (??) but you are clearly being ridiculous to go out in your PJs.

Spartans · 24/09/2015 18:56

It's not unprofessional. Stupid word.

However it does look a bit slovenly, imo. If you don't care what people think (and you shouldnt) just crack on.

I go everyday in my gym clothes as I go straight to the gym. Many of the people in suits give me looks. I couldn't care less.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 24/09/2015 18:57

Well, it's up to you what you wear but let's face it, PJs are generally considered nightwear. So, going out in the clothes it's assumed you slept in does look slovenly.

However, assuming it's your own DCs your dropping off and you're not a CM, it's hardly "unprofessional" is it? You're in your car for a few minutes, not serving behind a deli counter/in an office/digging the road.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 24/09/2015 18:58

*You're dropping off even.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/09/2015 18:59

"It's not coat weather yet"

Ha! I live in Scotland - I don't think it's stopped being coat weather here at all this year!*

    • possibly a slight exaggeration, but it has been a shite summer.
MyrtleMoaning · 24/09/2015 19:02

I've never seen anyone doing the school run in pjs, and I've been doing a school run for nearly 20 years. Have seen pj clad people in Tescos before DD2 transferred. It's ridiculously lazy, it takes seconds to pull on a pair of jeans.

MyrtleMoaning · 24/09/2015 19:03

Lincolnshire here, definitely coat weather, had been so for weeks

AsTimeGoesBy · 24/09/2015 19:07

Unprofessional is wrong when you aren't working, but why on earth aren't you getting dressed before leaving the house?

GirlOverboard · 24/09/2015 19:09

I wouldn't do it myself - the idea of having a car accident or breaking down and having to get out in my PJs is too embarrassing - but it's your choice what you wear. And the person who called you 'unprofessional' is obviously a bit thick. But if I were you I'd probably just wear a comfortable jumper and plain tracksuit bottoms - just as comfortable as PJs but more socially acceptable for going out and about.

reni2 · 24/09/2015 19:13

It's not unprofessional of course unless you are a nanny. It's a bit of a Jeremy Kyle studio guest look, but horses for courses and all that.

NewLife4Me · 24/09/2015 19:17

Some pj's are like clothes anyway.
with a coat over the top you wouldn't notice unless you were nosying at what others wear.
As for unprofessional Grin Unprofessional what? Mum? Grin

HackAttack · 24/09/2015 19:21

It's annoyingly common up here in the North East. I've seen people pyjama clad on the school run and occasionally out shopping. It just looks lazy, slovenly and as if you have no self discipline.

I'm also amused by people who insist they are 'fresh pyjamas'. All of the people I've seen out in nightwear definitely look as if it's been on a while.

stopfaffing · 24/09/2015 19:23

If you're just dropping off kids from within the car, who would know or care? If you walk around in public I might assume you'd overslept and couldn't be bothered getting washed/dressed.

I might also wonder if you were one of these mums who peddle Forever Living (and other MLMs) and saturate facebook with memes and daft desperatecomments like #bethereformykids #workinginmypjs #mumproneur #askmewhatido (no one does).

OneDay103 · 24/09/2015 19:25

Yabu, it takes a minute to slip a jeans on. Pjs out of the house just makes you look like a slob.

maria543 · 24/09/2015 19:26

Unprofessional is the wrong word. Slovenly is the correct word. However, to cock a snoot at people who consider it their business, go to sleep in daytime clothes and then they'll be fooled into thinking you've actually bothered to come to school in something you haven't been sleeping in. Failing that, turn up in full ballgown/cocktail dress and make it known that you haven't been to sleep yet.... ;)

herecomesthsun · 24/09/2015 19:29

I do the school run in work clothes. (but I sometimes haven't bothered to do my hair, which I fiddle with in the car when stationary in a particular queue on the way in).

When I was younger I used to pick up the Sunday paper from the shops in silk PJs. However, I wore a full length coat over the top and tucked the trousers into long boots, so you would need X Ray vision to notice. I saw no shame in this and thought it was funny.

sproketmx · 24/09/2015 19:29

My kids get themselves to school so I don't need to bother but I've been to the shop in pj's, the icy in pj's and even work one hungover sunday. I dont really care what I wear or what anyone else thinks. As long as my family's fed n happy

CruCru · 24/09/2015 19:31

Hmm. My PJs are yoga pants and a T shirt - I've done the school run wearing them (walking the whole way) and I don't think anyone noticed.

Gruntfuttock · 24/09/2015 19:34

Bulbasaur "I go shopping in PJ's and no one seems to care, I've actually gotten compliments on my pajama pants."

Unprofessional is not the most apposite word for this. Lazy and slovenly however, are both perfect.

TendonQueen · 24/09/2015 19:35

I think they were mis using 'unprofessional' as a polite alternative for scruffy and lazy.
