Called "unprofessional" for doing the school run in PJs

Snide comment from someone else. Wtf should i wear for a professional school drop off? I do live in my PJs and love it while I'm not working. Often have two pairs a day so its not dirty. Aibu to do this?

Sleep in your clothes tonight. Problem solved.

SiobhanSharpe · 24/09/2015 18:35

Who cares what you wear? I recall the days when DS was in primary I would drop him off on my way to work, suited and booted, and get really dirty looks from the jeans-and-jumpers clad mums at the school gate. We can't get it right, it seems. Ignore.
( I was a terrible mum for daring to go back to work, even though he was already at school!.)

trian · 24/09/2015 18:37

read your post but not the comments.
Dropping kids off at school is not part of anyone's profession unless you're a childminder etc, so the comment is factually inaccurate.
Generally I have no problem at all in people going about in their pyjamas as long as it's not a bloke with those ones with no proper fly so you can see their genitals - yuck!
The world is generally WAY too judgemental of what people wear and as long as you're not wearing swastikas, or have your boobs virtually popping out in front of kids etc etc, I think we all need to get over it and concentrate on the important things in life.

ShadowSlipping · 24/09/2015 18:37

Unprofessional isn't the right word unless your job is taking children to school.

But I think it does look lazy and slovenly. It's not like it would take long to throw some daytime clothes on.

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2015 18:38

Who was the 'someone else'?

It's not coat weather yet

lastuseraccount123 · 24/09/2015 18:39

YANBU. who cares what you're wearing for the school drop off.

Bellebella · 24/09/2015 18:40

Unprofessional is an odd term to describe it but I do think those that go out in pjs do generally look silly and lazy sorry. it's not something I would ever do. As long as your kids are not getting teased for it, then do what you want.

Hellochicken · 24/09/2015 18:41

YABVU

Unprofessional is not the word, but seriously how hard is it to put some clothes on. It's not ok for school run, supermarket or anywhere except your home.

Hulababy · 24/09/2015 18:41

I can't imagine ever leaving the house in my PJs unless it was a real emergency - and I do love my Pjs and change into them when home much of the time.

Can you not just buy some day clothes that are as comfy as Pjs, or buy some of the lounge wear type options - they don't generally look like PJs at least.

formerbabe · 24/09/2015 18:42

Pyjamas on the school run are acceptable if you are..

A. Recovering from an operation.

B. Have given birth in the past week

AliceInUnderpants · 24/09/2015 18:43

It's not coat weather yet

Anywhere? Hmm

AnyoneButAndre · 24/09/2015 18:43

"Unprofessional" is a stupid word to use. I wouldn't dream of wearing pjs on the school run myself (not something that's ever done in this (very mixed) area so people would probably assume the worst) but I can't imagine the circumstances in which I'd actually criticise someone else for doing it. Unless it was your DP struggling to find the appropriate word to express why they think it's not right?

Junosmum · 24/09/2015 18:43

I've once been to McDonald's in my pjs (drive through) and once OH has been to a&e in his pjs (emergency) but that's it. Our leggings on!

JeffsanArsehole · 24/09/2015 18:44

We've come a long way since we went out the house in nice hats and matching gloves

Not entirely progress, mostly we look crap (me included, I love loungewear and pj's)

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 24/09/2015 18:44

Yuck... think of all those lovely germs you are taking home to your nice warm bed to breed. Its lazy.

LadyNym · 24/09/2015 18:45

I don't understand the outrage this topic always brings out. I don't go out in my pyjamas but I don't see why other people shouldn't. They're just clothes that we arbitrarily decide should be worn in bed. There's no real logic to it. I don't see how it's any different to any other fashion choice people make (especially since most people who go out in pyjamas seem to put on clean ones when they get up so it's no more 'dirty', either) and it's really not affecting anyone else.

JeremyCorbynsStylist · 24/09/2015 18:47

Going out in your PJ's is a chav thing from about 5 years ago.
You've not got your finger on the fashion pulse op that's for sure.

Narp · 24/09/2015 18:47

Lady

Me either. I also don't go out in mu jammies. I actually get showered as soon as I get up. But I don't care what others do

nocabbageinmyeye · 24/09/2015 18:47

Aren't people who wear pyjamas outside called "pyjama knackers", not by me obvs Wink although I do think it's manky, lazy and attention seeking

KourtneyK · 24/09/2015 18:47

I love my PJs. I am wearing them now as it happens. However, I do judge a bit when people can't even be arsed to put on clothes for the school run or Tesco. How lazy are you?! I mean, I can be pretty bloody lazy but christ on a hairy bike!

DinosaursRoar · 24/09/2015 18:47

Hmm, I'm in the YABU camp too, if you go to the effort of changing your PJs, would it really be more effort to put on day clothes rather than bed clothes?

rainpouringrainbows · 24/09/2015 18:49

what a fantastic example for children who are made to wear a uniform at school (uniform that I support 100%).

How hard is it to have a bit of self respect and put some clothes on before going outside. I won't ask if you are even wearing underwear under your night garments (I really do not want to know) but I feel sorry for your kids if you are for real.

Unprofessional is the wrong word, but maybe the most polite one someone could come up with.

LyndaNotLinda · 24/09/2015 18:50

Are you parking on double yellows or the wiggly lines so that you don't have to walk far in your PJs? Because where I live, you're looking at around a 5 minute walk unless you park like a cunt.

Are you wearing slippers too?
