What is it with men who parade around the changing rooms naked, without a care in the world?
After 9 hours at work and an hours commute the other day, I was crouching over my bag sorting out my gym gear when I became distinctly aware of a cock, balls and arse inches from my face as he admires himself in the mirror next to me. I lie NOT! it was swinging away less that a foot away!

Now I have to say that in no way do I have a problem with nudity, even in the company of the same sex. When I change at the gym I don't do so under a towel, I'm just discrete about it and don't parade myself around in front of strangers.

It seems to be middle aged men too, not that I have anything against middle aged men, I'm one myself but come on fellas, be a bit more discrete. I don't want your tackle swinging in my face and if you want to admire yourself in the mirror then please wrap a towel around yourself of put some underwear on!

I don't care. I'm short sighted so if I'm in the changing room getting changed I'll have my glasses off and can't see much anyway. I find people playing peekaboo with the towel and acting terrified anyone gets a brief glimpse of anything rather than just stripping off showering and getting dried and changed a bit odd but really don't care.
I've not noticed any full length mirrors in female changing rooms. They're usually just high up ones by the hair driers.

This is what I am imagining is going on at all the 'strutter's' gyms! Grin

I am not shy and don't fret over covering myself with a towel (they only give you one towel, so I am not wrapping my sweaty bod in it on the way to the showers), but there are a small number of women who quite unneccessarily let it all hang out just a little bit too much in the changing room at my gym.

i.e. straightening hair - this one sits on a towel thank god, walking over to the scales in the buff and spending ages fretting over the reading (she's all of seven stone, this one), rubbing lotion into her feet with a leg up on a counter - believe me, this is not a view I want to see again any time soon.

I'm often the only person in our leisure centre gym changing room, I think most women must go straight home or go for a swim afterwards, so don't have that problem, plus wouldn't notice what they were flashing as I couldn't see it.

You SHOULD weigh yourself in the buff for the most accurate weight; otherwise you're weighing your clothes too.

PolishRemoverOfNail · 22/09/2015 20:12

DD was horrified at the naked women in the changing rooms the first few times. She used to hide in the changing rooms, waiting for me to pass her swimsuit to her.

However, I maintained a blasé attitude about the whole thing and encouraged her not to hide...

DD now struts around naked, acting like she owns the place, dancing starkers and having to be encouraged to get dressed because she can't leave the changing rooms naked.

Good job she's only 4 really, otherwise she could be the subject of some of these posts.

ShouldHavenotOf · 22/09/2015 20:14

I know you should weigh yourself naked - I always do. But this woman makes a long and languid affair of it and says things like 'what?!' out loud when she is on the scale, just in case anyone missed the nude saunter past.

Northernlurker · 22/09/2015 20:17

There seems to be a bit of a trend at the pool I use atm for women to strip totally in the communal shower. I could do without this tbh as you go in to the shower area, turn sharp right in to the actual shower bit and are instantly confronted with naked woman. Obviously that's not a terribly shocking sight but it's a bit disconcerting to suddenly get full frontal nudity in front of you, without warning.

My gym is too boring...

OctoberCupcake · 22/09/2015 20:33

Totally agree with Buggers, the attitude to nudity in Britain is odd in itself. I'm not exactly an exhibitionist but I don't see anything wrong in getting changed/dry as nature intended.

In the summer there was a news report locally of an apparent 'flasher' at the beach. The guy was described as having been carrying a towel & sports bag. Flasher? Or someone going for a swim & just minding his own business putting his swimmers on? Given that this was a week when there were a particularly large amount of European visitors in the area I'd guess the latter. Poor bloke being accused because someone can't tell the difference between flashing & getting changed Hmm

I was in Iceland last year where it's law that you have to shower naked before entering a public pool (quite right too, who wants to swim in other people's grime?). The only embarrassing part was seeing so many fellow brits brazenly ignore this & walk straight past the showers in their swimsuits rather than respectfully obey the law.

OnlyLovers · 22/09/2015 20:36

I too strip totally in the communal shower. How else are you meant to shower? Hmm (I know some people leave their swimming cossies on but I don't feel properly clean if I do that and anyway, it's, you know, the shower.

And what the hell else do you expect to be confronted with in a women's shower other than naked women?

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2015 20:39

I think there's a lot to be said for just going home and showering in the privacy of your own bathroom TBH.

OnlyLovers · 22/09/2015 20:42

Sparkling, too right, if people are as offended by naked bodies as this thread seems to suggest.

I mean those who are offended might be better going home to shower, that is, not those who have the temerity to be naked in a changing room like shameless hussies.

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2015 20:43

No, I am not offended by anybody naked I just don't want them to see me. Grin

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 22/09/2015 20:45

My parents split up when I was two. My dad use to make me go into the men's changing rooms with him and my brothers till I was about nine when we went swimming and I'd often see a set of balls swinging around Shock

Now I think about it, it's pretty inappropriate. I feel your pain. I ended up covering my eyes and bolting straight to the only cubicle. Then he let me go into the females ones shortly after.

Ta1kinPeace · 22/09/2015 20:54

Sparkling
I guess it depends on the gym.
Ours is very chatty and at certain times of day the average age in the changing rooms is about 50
so nobody give a stuff and we are all practised at chatting while looking at faces and sniggering at the strutters
That and there are anything up to 100 women in there at a time

Catsize · 22/09/2015 21:20

Anyone else recall the culture shock of the German swimming pool/sauna area on a school exchange??

I don't parade or strut. But I do get naked and I dry myself with my towel rather then try and force on clothes onto my damp body which I'm hiding behind my towel.

And I might well get my pants on but not my bra and then do my moisturising.

If you are bothered by mundane bodies and people doing mundane things, it's you with the issue.
