With 59% of the vote (first round).

I've just been following the live BBC broadcast and just wanted them to get on with it.

No doubt people on both sides of the political spectrum will be overjoyed with the result.

As a Tory voter I certainly am - he has made labour unelectable - happy days Grin

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 12/09/2015 11:48

Woohoo! GrinGrinGrin

ghostyslovesheep · 12/09/2015 11:48

I'm thrilled - I voted for him

FyreFly · 12/09/2015 11:48

I'm not "overjoyed", but even as someone who DOESN'T support the Labour party I'm quite glad to see it's finally got someone who can give it a bit of fire and direction. Might even shake the competition up a bit.

I'm happy with the result, not because I voted for him, nor because I support Labour or am left-wing, but because I'm glad to see someone with real passion and conviction in politics for once. We need more of that in every party.

FyreFly · 12/09/2015 11:49

I don't think my last post was quite clear Grin I am NOT Labour nor did I vote for him (or anyone for that matter)...

Harrylemon · 12/09/2015 11:49

Nothing really to do with the question but He's my local MP and seems to reply quickly if you have an issue.
I had chuka uman before and he constantly ignored emails.
So based on that I think Jeremy is good lol

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 12/09/2015 11:49

I voted for him, and am delighted. Because of what Fyrefly said.

AndNowItsSeven · 12/09/2015 11:50

TheSpectator yes you make the most of the next four and a half years, revelling in the exploitation of the poor and disabled.

he is in???!!

OMG I am so happy

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 12/09/2015 11:53

Very disappointing result. Shame people went for idealism instead of real politics. I for one won't be voting Labour whilst he's leader.

Branleuse · 12/09/2015 11:55

i didnt vote labour and havent for years, but I will now.

todgerthedodger · 12/09/2015 11:55

I'm glad both he and Tom have been elected. Nice to see men with passion and conviction back into front line politics. They were both my first choice on the ballot paper too!

Jux · 12/09/2015 11:55

I'm quite pleased because I'm sick of the plastic mannequins they use in Westminster, instead of politicians. I'm quite interested in whether he will become another of those, or remain human.

TheSpectator · 12/09/2015 11:55

TheSpectator yes you make the most of the next four and a half years, revelling in the exploitation of the poor and disabled.

Funny, I don't feel exploited at all and I am both of those things - poor and disabled.

Maudofallhopefulness · 12/09/2015 11:56

I like him. It's about time someone radical challenged the status quo.

Cloppysow · 12/09/2015 11:56

I haven't voted labour for years because of how far away from their roots they are. I'd consider it under Jeremy.

lorelei9 · 12/09/2015 11:56

sorry to be dense

first round..?

what happens next? I hadn't realised there was more to go...

Branleuse · 12/09/2015 11:56

labours been unelectable for years BECAUSE it was indistinguishable from the tories, in fact all three main parties were indistinguishable from each other.

Whether they get in power or not, is not a reason to betray principles and sell out

florentina1 · 12/09/2015 11:57

The best result. The other 3 candidates did not appear to have an original thought, spark of passion or a desire for anything other than getting elected.

I don't agree with all Mr Corbyn stands for, but he will certainly make parliament more interesting.

DrearyMe1 · 12/09/2015 11:57

Yes! As a mother with a disabled child, today I have a little more hope. I voted for JC. Finally we have an opposition instead of Tory lite, all those saying he is unelectable? There's a long time until the next election, more cuts to come. I wouldn't count your tax breaks just yet if I were you.

wasonthelist · 12/09/2015 11:58

MrsGentlyBenevolent
There's much more chance of me voting Labour now he is - I couldn't vote Labour at the last election as they were just Tories lite (I voted green BTW). It will be interesting to see what happens. "Pub Wisdom" is that his old-fashioned beliefs are unpopular and no-one will vote Labour because life is always so much more rosy when we have a Tory Government - I disagree - but it will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

ToGoBoldly · 12/09/2015 11:59

Lorelei, if he didn't get a clear majority with all 4 candidates, they would have whittled them down eliminating the one with the lowest number of votes until there was a clear winner. They didn't need to because he nailed it first round

MrsBalustradeLanyard · 12/09/2015 12:00

I've got quite a tear in my eye. A movement towards human, honest, articulate, non-focus group obsessed politics is bloody brilliant.

It may all go spectacularly wrong but I'm so fascinated to see how it shifts the window of what is politically acceptable in this country that I'm still totally bloody thrilled.

Maybe we can have a Scottish and English political landscape that are not at odds. That would be interesting!

InTheBox · 12/09/2015 12:01

I for one can't wait to tune into the next Prime Minster's Questions. Should be an interesting few weeks to come as they get themselves organised. I agree wrt to he's not cut from the typical Westminster cloth but I do wonder if this is really the end of Labour or the start of something new.
