With 59% of the vote (first round).

I've just been following the live BBC broadcast and just wanted them to get on with it.

No doubt people on both sides of the political spectrum will be overjoyed with the result.

I think the Tory "delight" is all a bluff.

My prediction is that once the spin doctors mellow some of his most extreme ideas, Labour will be more electable than they ever could have been with middle of the road almost but not quite tory policies. And the Tories know it.

We shall see....

ilovesooty · 12/09/2015 12:02

I'm delighted. This is a great speech too.

onecurrantbun1 · 12/09/2015 12:03

Jeremy and Tom were my first choices on the ballot.

I'm so happy.

I am not convinced that Jeremy is going to make PM; I'm not even sure if he'll stand in the 2020 election. What he will do is put some fire in Labour's bellies and stand up for normal people. Woohoo!

herecomesthsun · 12/09/2015 12:03

Wow, a real human being who sounds like he is saying stuff he believes in. Amazing (and I am not a Labour party member at the moment so of course I didn't vote for him)

NotYouNaanBread · 12/09/2015 12:05

I think idealism is GOOD - it should be the whole point of being a political party. People don't really know what they're voting for with a centrist party, and a passionately left Labour that seeks to put ownership of utilities and the rail network back where it should be - in the ownership of the nation - is something that people can clearly identify with.

And he's republican. :)

Feenie · 12/09/2015 12:05

Awesome speech!

NationalTrustLadyGardens · 12/09/2015 12:05

I'm thrilled too.

HumphreyCobblers · 12/09/2015 12:06

It will certainly make politics a lot more interesting.

With the greatest of respect, much if Mumsnet is very left wing, but not a real reflection of society. A very left wing/socialist government hasn't been in power for many, many years - and when they were it lead to many MANY years of a Tory rule. I think if we also look to the last election, and many views coming out about the refugee crisis, the country as a whole is certainly 'right leaning'.

I don't disagree with Corbyns views in general, I just cannot see them being viable policies. He's just 'same old Labour', big promises, no actual facts or money to support them. Of course many are in awe of his 'true man of the people, knows we are suffering' persona, but he's still a politician deep down. It's mostly smoke and mirrors, much like Farage and we'll pay for it with another Tory government. You can't run a country on heart, as lovely as it would be.

BestIsWestOfGallifrey · 12/09/2015 12:06

I voted for him and Tom Watson. I'd like to see more women in his shadow cabinet thigh.

JeremyCorbynsStylist · 12/09/2015 12:07

Brilliant speech.
Thank god for JC.
The real Labour Party is back.

nicknameidea · 12/09/2015 12:08

As a floating voter I'm sitting up and listening to politics for the first time in years. For the large section of the population that feels politicians are put of touch and don't represent their lives, the different viewpoint that Corbyn brings is a good thing.

Behooven · 12/09/2015 12:08

I don't agree with his policies but do agree with what others have said about him being something different from the other labour apparatchiks (sp?)

GiddyOnZackHunt · 12/09/2015 12:08

Labour and chuffed :)

BitOutOfPractice · 12/09/2015 12:12

I am gob smacked. And absolutely delighted. I voted for him. Not because I thought he'd win. But because my heart told me he was the best man

slicedfinger · 12/09/2015 12:12

I'm feeling quite emotional, and positive about the future of politics in the UK for the first time in years.

Rhine · 12/09/2015 12:13

People are getting sick of the "me, me, me. I'm alright sod everyone else" politics of the Tories and New Labour. This is good news IMO. I love how many young people seem to have got right behind him, it's good to see the young getting involved in politics.

lorelei9 · 12/09/2015 12:13

ToGoBoldly - thank you for explaining that.

I'm not an idealist but I like Corbyn. I admit that's partly because I find him a bit more "real" but also because I don't think we have anyone that far left and we need them. I'm not guaranteeing him my vote, I just think British politics has moved in a sort of "clump" to the right and it's very limiting.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 12/09/2015 12:14

Fantastic speech and I admire him greatly.

I don't think we will win the next election, but at least we have some bloody principles now.

gamerwidow · 12/09/2015 12:14

I think it's good for politics in general. We need a real choice between parties not just different versions of the same party. It gives everyone a bit of space to develop clearer policy differences and hopefully will stop the Tories and lib dems having to move ever further to right to distinguish themselves from labour. It's got people interested in politics again too and I hope that translates into more people using their vote.

Idefix · 12/09/2015 12:14

Labour may now start to stand for what it used to. Will be watching with interest.

Burnshersmurfs · 12/09/2015 12:15

I'm thrilled. I finally feel that the Labour Party is being led by two people with guts, compassion and principle. At last!
The Murdoch press haven't managed to silence or discredit Watson yet, despite their best efforts, so there may be hope for the election.

AndNowItsSeven · 12/09/2015 12:16

Genuine question The spectator, why not?

SheGotAllDaMoves · 12/09/2015 12:16

I have real affection for JC but we have just ushered in a hugely turbulent time for the party.

As the Chinese saying goes, may you love in interesting times.
