With 59% of the vote (first round).

I've just been following the live BBC broadcast and just wanted them to get on with it.

No doubt people on both sides of the political spectrum will be overjoyed with the result.

Remember all those young students and early 20 somethings, who continually get screwed over because we never get off our arses and vote?

Suddenly, a lot more of us are sitting up and taking notice. Most of my friends are getting interested in politics for the first time because we like what Corbyn is saying. Gloating tories would do well to remember that the electorate could be a very very different landscape in five years time.

Sunshineandsilverbirch · 12/09/2015 12:18

I don't understand why people keep saying Corbyn will make Labour unelectable. They weren't electable previously - hence the last election result.

Dawndonnaagain · 12/09/2015 12:19

Brilliant.
Oh, and with almost 60% of the vote The Spectator, I'd be worried. Your forecast is a tad out of touch.

Chippednailvarnish · 12/09/2015 12:20

I don't really have a strong opinion on Corbyn, after all Labour isn't a one man party and he can't decide party policy on his own.
I do have a huge amount of respect for Tom Watson, he's everything i want to see in a politican, which I think will sway a lot more people towards Labour than the Tories might realise...

ToGoBoldly · 12/09/2015 12:24

I'm a Labour voter. I was a member, but there are some suggestions of Corbyn that I can't get on board with, so member no more for now. Might change my mind. I will still be a voter though, and wish Corbyn well - I hope things will change but I worry they will not. We shall see.

Lauren15 · 12/09/2015 12:24

Interesting info from HarryLemon about Corbyn as a constituency MP. I think a lot of the would be stars forget that they are actually elected to represent real people in an actual place ie the grass roots.

Jux · 12/09/2015 12:24

I really would like this lot to stop saying "reach out". It is a term which is rapidly becoming meaningless. What do they actually mean when they say it? Say that instead.

Jux · 12/09/2015 12:25

And "offer full support". Give him full support. Give it to him. Or fuck off. Don't be mealy mouthed. Just give him your support, or don't.

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 12/09/2015 12:26

Bloody brilliant! We have a left option again, let's get Britain balanced back on its feet! Off to let off streamers!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 12/09/2015 12:27

Absolutely brilliant! So pleased. He speaks from the heart.

hiddenhome2 · 12/09/2015 12:28

JC has just helped to launch ds1's political career. He's been so inspired by him that he's joined the Labour Party and plans on making it a big part of his life. He's also planning on studying Politics and History at university. He's a born politician and is really passionate about being a left winger. He met JC at Middlesborough and has a tee shirt Grin

I'm happy for ds1.

trixymalixy · 12/09/2015 12:28

I'm a labour voter and I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I'm delighted that Labour has a leader that seems to get people fired up, I'm worried it means more Tory governments.

Bakeoffcake · 12/09/2015 12:28

I'm glad JC won.

We need politians who say what they believe in and aren't worried about towing a party line or frightened of the media. I thought it was awesome that he told off the media, twice in his speech.

He may never be Prime Minister but I think he's going to have a good influence on British politics.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 12/09/2015 12:29

He's unelectable because he doesn't have any solid policies. I really don't understand why he's being treated like the second coming - he really isn't the first politician in recent years to make people sit up and actually discuss politics. If real left wing views were what the country wanted, the Greens would have been far more popular over the years. The trouble is, Labour supporters have had a few years of the 'not a winner' type leader (same with the Tory's from 97 - Cameron), then we see the SNP get N. Sturgeon and wanted the same. Strong, tough but with morals. The thing is, (as much as Scotland wanted), she doesn't have to run an entire economy on the 'peace and love' attitude Corbyn has. Again, yes the idealism is very nice, but that's not how it works. In 4 years it won't be 'aw, at least he tried, at least he made us think'. Thinking won't change how the Tories run things - being in partnership with the LD proved that. It's certainly more in the Game of Thrones mentality - when you play politics, you either win or die, or at least your career will. So saying 'he won't win, but he will make a difference' - there hasn't been evidence in political history of this happening, you really think he's the one to do it? I don't think so, I think he's about to crash and burn in all honesty.

Celticlassie · 12/09/2015 12:32

It reminds me very much of what happened in Scotland - people who had not been engaged in politics sitting up and having their say. People are so strongly against him because he is a threat to the status quo - the disgustingly unfair, exploitative 'I'm alright, Jack' system that has been present in Britain for such a long time. People are sitting up and saying "I'm not accepting that any more." I think it's brilliant. I once said that I would NEVER vote Labour again - that's not necessarily true any more.

Awholelottanosy · 12/09/2015 12:32

I'm overjoyed with this result, to me he's a man of integrity, compassion and principles. I loved his speech and would happily vote Labour at the next election. Wonder if Tony Blair was watching...?

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 12/09/2015 12:35

Tories hate him because he makes them look bad. If we want to spend less as a country, to improve the national debt, Corbyn has been setting a great example for years. He stands in polar opposition to the majority of their policies. He is interested in helping the little person, and the country.

Unlike the Tories.
I found this pretty shocking, partly because I'd never heard of it. I wonder if the government were hoping this story would sink.

Blair hates him because Corbyn has said he thinks Blair should stand trial for war crimes over the Iraq war

I was too young to vote when Blair got in, and Labour since then is not really Labour. Tory lite, more like.

anothermakesthree · 12/09/2015 12:36

That's the end of my history of voting for Labour.

PermetsTu · 12/09/2015 12:37

I am overjoyed. I'm a socialist, not an idealist and I like Corbyn's politics. I have real hope. All this "unelectable Corbyn" bluster is tedious. I voted for right now, for opposition, for party leadership. Watson and Corbyn were my only choices and I'm so pleased.

MrsCorbyn · 12/09/2015 12:37

Jezbollah!

Excellent news. Ten more years of Tory government and I am bloody happy about that.

Plus, it was 500/1 odds a while back. £100 bet. A lovely payout.

JEZ WE CAN!

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 12/09/2015 12:38

'No solid policies'? Got more than most. You're just spouting the same old centre-right myths.

I am a little disappointed with the deputy contest, I would have preferred (and voted for) one of the women, but they were all strong candidates in themselves. Hope there will be a good gender balance in the shadow cabinet.

InTheBox · 12/09/2015 12:39

Spare a thought for that poor Liz Kendall, she only got 4.5% of the vote. Not even dip in the ocean.

StickyGripper · 12/09/2015 12:40

I haven't followed his policies that closely but I feel very strongly that our current political setup is not working. They all seemed to be in the centre and it didn't seem to work on either side. I welcome a major shakeup and it sends a message to the politicians that we, the people will ultimately hold them accountable for the bollocks they spout.

Jux · 12/09/2015 12:41

InTheBox, I'm rather glad LK was so roundly trounced. She is, imo, a dreadful woman.

lorelei9 · 12/09/2015 12:41

I am so wishing I'd placed an early bet. By the time I looked the odds were more like 6/1.
