How cold are you?

8 am cold.

I am currently wearing..

Socks. Slippers. Leggings. Dress. Jumper. Crocheted blanket.

I suspect I have that thing where your fingers and toes go white and numb and tingly. Or frostbite.

The rule is that the heating can only go on in October. I may be frozen solud and dead by then.

Might change my name to Ötzi.

I'm not cold at all, but it's 21.3 degrees in my living room. I live in a new build flat with amazingly good insulation, we only need to use the heating when it's actually freezing outside.

I'm (hopefully) moving soon, into a 200 year old cottage. I'm looking forward to more space and a garden, but not so much to trying to keep it warm in winter without going bankrupt.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 05/09/2015 19:54

Raynaud's? Seriously if you think you may have it, you should see your GP.

I have it. Am dreading winter.

May I recommend to all you cold blue people, microwaveable slippers? I'm not overstating when I say they have made a difference to my life Grin

We have one room which is always heated very very well so I have somewhere to go, plus I have micro slippers and handwarmers, electric blankets and throw, thermals etc etc. our heating bills are enormous, it swallows a lot of my PIP, but I'm grateful for the PIP whenever I switch the fire on Smile

poocatcherchampion · 05/09/2015 19:55

We haven't got jumpers on yet.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 05/09/2015 19:57

I would go to the GP as you may well have Raynauds or a thyroid gland problem (in that it is underactive). This can cause a person to feel cold in their extremities. You should have blood tests done as soon as possible.

Murfles · 05/09/2015 19:59

Our heating has been on and off all summer. We've also had the fire lit in the lounge a few nights.

Aliceinvodkaland · 05/09/2015 19:59

FREEEZING ...

Libra · 05/09/2015 19:59

6 degrees here last night apparently and a friend who lives further inland has posted about sleet on Facebook. North Scotland.

HookedOnHooking · 05/09/2015 20:02

Reynauds. That's it.
Possibly maybe got it. Toes go really white and dead when cold. Haven't got round to GP as I've never yet met one that isn't feckin useless

I find down duvets and pillows a lot warmer than synthetic filled ones too.

Wearing a hat indoors helps too.

If I start to get cold despite precautions, I soak/wash my hands and feet gently in warm water, it helps too.

I love the fresh air and would really really love to keep a window open at night, it's just about doable in Summer but definitely not in winter. Frustrating as I love a cold bedroom filled with fresh air, but it's too painful if I get cold, particularly my nose!

HookedOnHooking · 05/09/2015 20:03

I've had thyroid checked a few times over the years. All normal. Just normally fat, cold and tired.

OP posts:
PurpleHairAndPearls · 05/09/2015 20:05

It's definitely worth going to GP, even a poor one should be able to recognise it and if necessary refer you for bloods etc. don't want to sound alarmist, but it can be a symptom of underlying stuff like thyroid as PP said.

My fingers and toes look exactly like candle wax (my DH finds it disturbing Grin) and go purple before they return to normal colour, it hurts like buggery!!

RomiiRoo · 05/09/2015 20:06

I am cold, I have felt chilled to the bone the last couple of days.

HookedOnHooking · 05/09/2015 20:07

I should. I might.

I'm a bit doctor phobic. ridiculous considering i'm a hcp type

No heating on. Wearing cropped pants and a t shirt and just a nice temperature

bimandbam · 05/09/2015 20:08

I have been out this afternoon in harem trousers and a vest top. Currently sat in the living room post bath in short pjs with the windows open.

But this house is ridiculously warm. Its only a few years old and is a eco friendly ha property built to a high spec. We have our bedroom windows open all night atm and are still warm at night.

In my old house though which was a 100 year old fridge I would have been putting the heating on by now.

sirzy, I am envious! Are you in the UK?

Anamechangingregular · 05/09/2015 20:08

I am freezing and have just put the heating on. I have however just returned from holiday in a very hot country where I spent all week in vest and shorts so that hasn't helped.

Sirzy · 05/09/2015 20:09

Yes. North west England at that.

HookedOnHooking · 05/09/2015 20:09

And I feckin swear I'll never pay a TV licence again if that vile Peter Andre wins Strictly.

We took our radiators off 6 weeks ago to decorate we have not decorated yet. I might freeze before we do.

londonrach · 05/09/2015 20:20

Am wearing my vest now so its cold. I miss the summer (gets the sun brochures out)

therenter · 05/09/2015 20:20

I refuse to put the heating on until October. I have put my bum on the Aga (turned down really low over the summer) once or twice tho ;-) definitely getting colder.

FarFromAnyRoad · 05/09/2015 20:23

I'm interested in the microwaves slippers Purple - suffer terribly with iced feet.
On the other hand, I'm not cold. Not now, probably never. What you people need is a helping of our old friend Menopause. Marvellous for keeping a low glowing fire burning in you at all times!

I'm always cold. Although I have the heating on so I'm just wearing jeans and 2 tshirts (normal for me Lol) I am also under a toasty duvet.

I have raynauds and thyroid is totally normal. Infant it is nearer being hyper rather than hypo (which makes you cold all the time)

Sadly I think some people just run colder than others. I have a higher than average temperature which is weird.
