How cold are you?

8 am cold.

I am currently wearing..

Socks. Slippers. Leggings. Dress. Jumper. Crocheted blanket.

I suspect I have that thing where your fingers and toes go white and numb and tingly. Or frostbite.

The rule is that the heating can only go on in October. I may be frozen solud and dead by then.

Might change my name to Ötzi.

Would a little fan heater be terribly expensive?

I'm freezing - it's too late to light a fire but I'm watching TV wrapped in a blanket.

goinggrey1978 · 05/09/2015 22:12

its freezing here in the south east, top temperature of 15 c outside all day it's now just 11 c, inside its been 19.3 c all day with no heating on yet but i've been debating it all day, have 2 pairs of bed socks on, with my pj's and zippy cardigan and a fleece blanket and about to go to bed, hoping its warmer tomorrow!

Callaird · 05/09/2015 22:13

I'm in cropped leggings, short sleeve top, no socks. I'm not cold. Comfortable! I don't really feel the cold. I sleep with all the windows open and just a duvet cover, although I did pull the throw over myself at 4am the night before last and put the blow heater on to warm up my bedroom while I took a shower yesterday morning.

Ragwort · 05/09/2015 22:25

Not cold at all, still in fit flops Grin. My DH has got the winter duvet out though - fortunately we don't share a bedroom as I like the window open and he doesn't. I sleep separately with my light weight duvet Grin.

Annapurnacircuit · 05/09/2015 22:33

Extra layers help a bit but they really don't help your extremities.

Can't imagine only having the heating on for an hour a day in November. Obviously if you can't afford to then that is different but surely not out of choice?

SargeantAngua · 05/09/2015 22:40

I just put the electric blanket back on my bed. Only switched it on long enough to take the chill off as my feet were freezing, but felt a but bad using it. I do have a window open and a summer duvet though - I get too hot or too cold very easily, often at different points during the same night, so I like to keep my options open!

Topseyt · 05/09/2015 22:41

I'm not cold, but not pleasantly warm either. I'm OK in jeans, t-shirt, large cardigan and socks.

Very tempted to buy myself a pair of of those microwaveable slippers as I do suffer from cold feet in winter, and they can take hours to warm up, keeping me awake at night and annoying DH as I try to thaw them out on him. Grin They are on my wish list now.

We lived in a really cold house a few years ago, I used to get itchy, sore, red lumps on my toes when it was really cold. Open plan living is lovely but not great for cold people - I need doors!

JeffsanArsehole · 06/09/2015 07:18

Kryten, those were chilblains.

AsTimeGoesBy · 06/09/2015 07:29

Not really cold here yet (SE England). Have put on a cardigan a few times in the last few days but then got too hot as soon as I've started moving around. I usually stay in sandals till October and go straight to socks/boots, I don't really get on with shoes.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 06/09/2015 07:41

I am toasty.

But then I am in bed in pyjamas, fluffy socks and a fleece.

If I stay here all day the kids will cope, won't they?

carabos · 06/09/2015 08:45

DH has just gone out and after some debate turned the heating on as he left - "only half an hour, it's still September!" he instructed.

I'm debating whether to change the quilts when I change the bed later - we each have our own duvet, currently in the 4.5 togs. If I put the winter ones on, then we can have the window open all night - I've been waking up cold and stiff the last rew mornings, so maybe its time. How depressing.

We're off to Scotland for a week tomorrow, so it might be even colder when we get back, or it might have picked up a but - decisions decisions, first world problems and all that.

Any Scots about? What's the weather like in Pitlochry?

goblinhat · 06/09/2015 08:51

I am in Scotland, weather is lovely. I was at an open air event yesterday, had to peel off my layers and put my sunglasses on.
Weather has been lovely this weekend.
Yesterday evening OH and I were sharing a botle of wine in the conservatory- temperature in there reached 32 degrees- and no heating on.

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 06/09/2015 08:52

I have got the lovely soft blanket out for the sofa and just ordered some 2.4tog socks. It's a touch nippy but tbf the window is open a crack so it feels fresh.

AsTimeGoesBy · 06/09/2015 08:53

I was wondering about changing to the 10 tog duvet today, but I'd rather put on socks than be too hot in bed which I often am with the 10 tog, so will leave it this time.

No, it just isn't cold enough until Jan/Feb to have the heating on for any length of time.

When we lived in the south east we would start using the heating from about the end of September but not here. The temperature does not dip anywhere near as much at nighttime so the house stays much warmer.
