migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

I agree, jonah - It's true that with today's ease of travel and widespread terrorism geography hardly matters, but I completely realise a traumatised refugee may not be thinking of it like that

Somehow in this we've got to find a way of working out who's who and needs help most, and nobody pretends it's easy

Chala86 · 05/09/2015 19:35

LilMiss my comment about starring with the same brush wasn't directed at you.Personally I think you were just providing an example and, as you clearly said, your friend wasn't like those you had a bad experience with, which makes clear you're not saying all are sexist. Re halal - that's supply and demand and is a choice made by supermarkets based (probably) on what people buy is any particular area.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 19:35

No my stance is it is unfair to find additional money to help them when we don't find additional money to help our own. I have also stated elsewhere that we should only take people who go through the process correctly so background checks are gone but you conveniently forgot to include that.

I never said the refugee won't integrate, the Muslim experience was in response to specific question asked by posters that was in relation to a different conversation not about Syrian refugees.

JanetBlyton · 05/09/2015 19:36

It's not months for paper work. It is more like years and that includes those who have got to the UK. They are held up in limbo not allowed to take jobs in the UK for years. I think the Eu should offer a gurantee of doing all applications and appeals all over within 3 months and then you stay or are out.

Chala86 · 05/09/2015 19:37

Taring not starring - bloody autocorrect!

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 19:38

Thank you Chala86

pipbin come on I am still waiting for you to tell me where I said HALA meat..you all want me to answer your damn questions but won't answer mine ..oh wait thats because you will have to admit you were wrong Pipbin

BigRedBall · 05/09/2015 19:42

hmm Doesn't that make you just as bad as the worst bigots

What, so I'm just as bad as a bigot because I'm against people who hold different opinions that are racist, xenophobic and inciting hatred and intolerant of other religions?
Yes im intolerant of people with these types of views. Not sure that makes me a bigot though. I think it makes me humane.

clam · 05/09/2015 19:46

But your unpleasant way of interacting with people would put you right up there on the same list - if I was the sort of person to operate such a list.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 19:48

come on pipbin where is your answer to my question? Infact I know you were making out I said stuff I never said so let's cut to the chase just apologise its ok I will forgive you once you apologise for trying to make me look like I am racist making out I said Halal meat when I never did

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 19:51

I also posted somewhere way back that it is not additional money per se, it is money from the Aid Budget so a sum of money already ear marked for use on Aid therefore just a reallocation of that particular pot of money.

The UK are looking at taking people direct from the camp in Turkey, Jordan, etc., their backgrounds will be checked as they would be for any other refugee prior to them being giving permission to remain in the UK.

The ones treking across Europe to get into Germany and Sweden will be checked in those countries, I fail to see why that would be of concern to you.

Your post re Muslim Sexism read as if you were saying that 5 out of 6 Muslims you came across at University showed sexism towards you personally, hence the inference drawn from it.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 19:54

I apologise, as you said you didn't say halal. However your comment about blessed meat came at the end of a lot of comments about Muslims so it was an assumption on my behalf. Again I apologise for putting words in your mouth.

I still want to know which your religion is that precludes you from eating blessed meat.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 19:55

I apologise for the lateness of my reply, I was making and eating dinner.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 19:57

So you have managed to post a few times demanding an answer from me without answering my question to you.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 19:57

The additional £100million funding pledge for refugee camps on Syria's borders brings the total contribution from the UK to more than £1billion

We have already given £1billion - wtaf where has the money gone could of given each refugee more than £100k each probably more if I could be bothered to do the maths. There aren't even 1 billion Syrian refugees for god sake.. that is why I am so against the additional amount. Enough is enough. With other EU countries also giving money its ridiculous that even more money is needed. Better off giving them the cash and they spend how they like it cos where the hell is it going.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 19:58

Obviously it means I am Jewish then Pipbin.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 19:58

It was the supermarkets trampling all over your (v secret) religious beliefs then? Ban them. Ban them all!

Fail to see how any of that is remotely relevant to the Syrian refugee crisis. Do you think they're going to bring over a load of meat blessed by other religions and force feed it to you?

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 20:00

So why couldn't you just damn well say that then Lil.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 20:00

Fail to see how any of that is remotely relevant to the Syrian refugee crisis

Quite.

MaudGonneMad · 05/09/2015 20:02

I thought halal meat was preferable than non-halal meat for Jewish people Confused

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 20:02

Nobody is mentioning Russia in this discussion. Russia has bankrolled Syria's (Assad's) arms purchasing and power base for many years, arguably since the end of WW2. Where is the Russian response to the humanitarian crisis? Am I the only person who is not seeing an outpouring of Russian compassion?

Get over the debate about what should we do. The argument should be about solving a catastrophic situation in which the old, weak and vulnerable are the victims.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 20:04

The reason it came up was in response to another conversation going on is that so hard to understand. A number of other topics have been talked about on here but its ok just pick up on my one after all you all love to jump at the chance to make shit up about what I say - right Pipbin - instead of reading what people write just jump to assumptions.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 20:05

I thought halal meat was preferable than non-halal meat for Jewish people

No, other way round. If halal is not available then kosher will do but Jewish people cannot eat halal.

MaudGonneMad · 05/09/2015 20:06

This page suggests otherwise:

It means, though, that if one was in a situation where the only food available was halal meat and ordinary meat, the former would be preferable.

Cerseirys · 05/09/2015 20:06

Sorry, you're Jewish and you're complaining about possible refugees? Do you not see the irony here?

JeffreysMummyisCross · 05/09/2015 20:06

Oh, come off it. What blessed meat did you mean, if not halal? What is all this blessed meat that the supermarkets are surreptitiously foisting on us?
