I don't get it, they obviously don't want them there, so why aren't they letting them carry on to Germany like they want to?

the lawless behaviour of the migrants is shocking

I would not have much respect for laws having lived in a lawless chaotic, dangerous and Armageddon like state - ie Syria.

From the Syrians point of view no one has gone to help them, they have been attacked and gassed by Assad and then when they thought it couldnt get worse ISIS rear up.

I dont blame them for feeling angry.

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 18:54

But they are being angry at the wrong people.

Palehorse · 04/09/2015 18:58

Look a little more grateful??
What evidence do you have that they're not grateful?
Do you realise how shallow that sounds

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 04/09/2015 19:01

They want to reach a country where they know they will be safe. Turkey has Isis on its border and refuses asylum to kurds (I think), Hungary is known to treat migrants badly (refugees or not), Bulgaria and Romania aren't really any better reputation wise.Greece,as widely known, can't afford to have them, and Italy is not financially very sound either.

Add that to the desire to link up with family who already made it over, and I'm not surprised they head north.

Also, the fleeing from isis reminds me of the end of Fiddler on the roof, and the line 'we will be staying with uncle vanya in Poland'. All I can think of when I hear that is 'and then the Nazis will kill you shortly, you just think you're safe'. If I was escaping from isis, I'd want a fair few countries between me and them too.

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 19:02

When they throw water and food back its hardly looking grateful and the others throwing stones at the police because they are not allowed to get on the ferries reeks more of throwing a tantrum. They are going to get a big wake up call when they realise they will be living in camps when they reach Germany. How will they kick off then?

suzannefollowmyvan · 04/09/2015 19:54

it doesnt look too good does itConfused

MaxieMouse · 04/09/2015 19:57

Hungary is known to treat migrants badly (refugees or not), Bulgaria and Romania aren't really any better reputation wise

Really? I'm genuinely interested where this information comes from? None of these countries have much experience with migrants so I fail to see how they can have any reputation whatsoever, good or bad. If anything, I remember reading that Romania was willing to receive refugees from Ukraine earlier this year.
Seriously, these countries are all safe, they are not war zones, they are just not the wealth haven that the refugees are looking for. And that is worrying, they should accept whichever safe destination is offered to them, otherwise people will start questioning their motives.

FithColumnist · 04/09/2015 20:09

to this onlooker it just seems like the actions of frightened desperate people
What, fleeing that war-torn third world hell-hole that is Hungary? Their PM might be a nasty piece of work, but it's a safe country. To this onlooker it looks like a lot of able-bodied men trying to get to the "richest" country.

Osolea · 04/09/2015 20:11

This thread is giving me the rage, I can't believe some of the callous attitudes displayed here!

MoreShabby, the things you're saying are just vile. Do you feel the same towards people in this country who need help from the state to survive? Should everyone who can't support themselves ensure they go around with a grateful look on their face at all times? There's no difference, we Western Europeans aren't more worthy as people just because we had the good fortune to be born here rather than there.

These people aren't stupid, and just like you and I, they want more out of life than just basic survival. They want to work, they want to educate their children, they want to actually live, just like every other human being.

Chipstick10 · 04/09/2015 20:20

It might give you rage but you are not the moral police.

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 20:20

What is vile about telling the truth, the way these people are acting is vile, they are in safe countries and they are being violent, demanding and abusive. Not grateful for being safe, fed and watered and thinking by kicking off is going to get what they want does not bode well for the future.

Plenty of people who are going without in this country but they don't bully and intimidate to get what they want. So take your sanctimonious attitude and stick it.

SlightlyJadedJack · 04/09/2015 20:25

That video bothers me in the fact that those young men are throwing away water and food without considering if there are people on that train who may want it. There are women on there who may be too intimidated by their actions to go out and say yes please.

BMW6 · 04/09/2015 20:26

They don't want to be fingerprinted to weed out those with criminal records or IS links, they don't want to wait their turn, they don't just want to be safe for now and be allocated a host country in due course......

I thought they were fleeing for their very lives Hmm

BMW6 · 04/09/2015 20:28

Well if this is how they behave when they don't get exactly what they want, I don't bloody well want them here. We have enough homegrown entitled arses as it is.

Chipstick10 · 04/09/2015 20:28

300,000 signatures doesn't carry public opinion , believe me

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 04/09/2015 20:29

What worries me is what will happen as they get further West and piss more people off on their way. Europe is a tolerant place on the surface but has some nasty undertones in some areas

I read today the richest gulf states have still yet to take on a single refugee.

HermioneWeasley · 04/09/2015 20:30

Osolea - agree massively

People seem to have an extraordinary sense of entitlement to our high standard of living, just by virtue of having been born here. Few people in the UK are net contributors in terms of tax - we cost more than we contribute. Who are any of us to feel superior?

BMW6 · 04/09/2015 20:31

How many of the 300,000 signatories would take a refugee into their own home? I wish that was compulsory - you signed this petition, here's your responsibility.

Chipstick10 · 04/09/2015 20:33

Yvette cooper won't that's a fact, she said so on the bbc news . I think she should, at least ten families. Well that's what she's expecting local authorities to do

MaxieMouse · 04/09/2015 20:35

Well, I would take a refugee in my house, I'm totally in favour of the UK accepting more refugees, no problem. But genuine refugees who have been registered with the authorities, not someone who refuses to provide any credentials and forces their way through Europe.

HermioneWeasley · 04/09/2015 20:36

According to this BBC article, the Turks aren't refusing Kurds refugee status as a policy, they are taking all refugees, but if you are stateless/without papers then you have to stay at the refugee camps and can't travel or leave. Because the Syrians had refused to recognise the Kurds then they had no papers on entering Turkey.

What an incredibly sad mess.

FlowersAndShit · 04/09/2015 20:36

These 'refugees' are already breaking the law - why the hell should we let them live here?!

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 04/09/2015 20:36

I know where they'll all end up

Overstretched coastal towns like Clacton and Blackpool where all local authority rejects end up staying in b&b's

Chipstick10 · 04/09/2015 20:38

Yes it won't be within spitting distance of MR and MRs Balls

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 04/09/2015 20:41

Moreshabby go and froth on the dm website many like minded people like yourself who have no empathy there you will enjoy it

Yes what is Saudi doing very fucking little as that would upset the Isis funding supporters there so makes sense
