Fat women in bikinis?

HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:00

I have 25 hours to decide on what beach/pool clothes to get!!!!! And doing my usual 2 yearly pre-holiday panic about being fat.

However. This year I am slightly less fat and contemplaring a bikini rather than my usual black one-piece. But I am still fairly fat. Particularly when sitting (less so when standing and lying flat).

It's all well saying 'wear what you like' or 'wear what you are comfortable in' but because I am fat I look fucking awful in anything less than jeans and a jumper.

So. Over to the hive-mind. What should I do?

Black one piece

Or

Bikini (with very high waist pants)

Bikini at start of hol, cossie towards end.

I've been trying to find one of the costumes with cut away bits at the side/back, could that be an option?

Whimsicalgardener · 24/08/2015 08:05

Black one piece. More flattering for any body shape and it will help with your stressing over your weight.

Enjoy your holiday, you cannot ruin your own holiday worrying. Bon voyage!!

HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:06

And part 2....

Where could a fattish woman actually purchase a high waist bikini in August? (Shops are now full of mittens and ski-wear)

Meh. I'm a fat woman. Why not?

3 years ago I got my first bikini for my honeymoon. It was a high waisted with crop top style top and adorable. I hummed and harred about it just like you thinking I didn't 'deserve' to wear it so packed it and a plain black one piece. Day one of my holiday I saw all the other people (not perfect) in bikinis and thought "nuts to it" and wore mine.

I wore it all holiday and felt amazing! I say go for it!!!!!

TheHouseOnTheLane · 24/08/2015 08:08

I dunno....seems a bit blunt. Some people are more sensitive.

HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:08

I do believe I'd feel a sm8dgen more comfortable in the black one-piece. It also means I wouldn't need to worry about my white tum looking odd with my brown edges.

If you want a bikini get 1 what about a tankini might make you less self concious but meh you are on holiday black swimsuits always remind me of swimming lessons in school go for a colour

SacredHeart · 24/08/2015 08:09

This is where mine was from...

Take some separates, high waisted bottoms, good fitting bikini top and a tanking top in matching colours so you can mix and match if you have a (literal or not) wobble about getting your mid-bits out.

HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:10

But on the other hand having lost 3 stone it seems a shame to not get the tummy out.

OP posts:
HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:11

Tankinis confuse me. Surely the wibbly bit hangs out the gap between the top and bottom?

There is a website called swimwear 247 or something Debenhams will still have their summer stuff

SheSparkles · 24/08/2015 08:12

I'm very large (size 20+)and always wear a bikini. Try Asos, Marisota, Simply Be, Evans, Yours Clothing, even Ebay.
Think about getting tops and bottoms from different places if need be, I always have black bottoms and sometimes wear different tops with them.
I promise you, no one will bat an eyelid, they're too busy enjoying their own holidays

wigglesrock · 24/08/2015 08:13

Yup I'd take the high waisted bottoms and the top, you'll be raging if you get there and don't have it. Black swimsuits to me always smack of trying to hide what something and I have several black swimming costumes.

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2015 08:13

No they keep you all in they are structered seen loads of bigger women wear them and nothing falls out

HookedOnHooking · 24/08/2015 08:13

I'll be brave and go and try some on.

I'm of the 'you only live once' school of thought. Go for it.

I'm not overweight, but have always carried a bit of fat on my tummy. For that reason, I shied away from bikinis for years. Now, after DS1 my tummy area is a disaster of stretch marks and C section overhang. So I wish I'd frolicked in a lovely bikini when I had the chance.

Seize the day.

needastrongone · 24/08/2015 08:14

There's loads of swim wear out there still OP, I bought 3 bikinis last week!

I am a size 6/8 but still have exactly the same dilemma as you, it's confidence rather than physical shape. How confident do you feel? Would the bikini or the one piece make you more or less confident.

Bravissimo have some lovely, flattering bikinis on sale, if you are prepared to pay a little more. DD is a little fuller chested than me, and I have bought her a super one from there.

bikeandrun · 24/08/2015 08:16

Back from holiday in France, didn't see any women in one piece suits ( including larger women and 70plus ones) no one seems to care.

Thebirdsneedseeds · 24/08/2015 08:21

Go for it! Be proud of your weights loss and body. Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with your attitude. You seem very grounded to me. Have a lovely holiday!

TheUnwillingNarcheska · 24/08/2015 08:22

Wear a bikini, just get a good fitting one, no muffin top.

I have to buy separates because my bottom half is a 14 and if I buy a top it is an 18 because I am (according to Bravissimo) 32F.

I don't care what the label says just as long as it isn't squishing me in.

Life is way to short, we all come in different shapes and sizes. Accept that, hold your head high and have a lovely time.

DinosaursRoar · 24/08/2015 08:22

I had a revelation last year by the pool. The British woman were hiding in black one-pieces that were rooched over the tummy area, they were hiding under sarongs and looking very self-concious, drawing attention to their bodies and their uncomfortablness about being seen in swimwear, many were UK size 12 and 14, so not huge, but just not model figures.

Then there was the german woman at our hotel - to a woman, they were all huge. They also had all fake tanned before they went, were wearing bikinis, often accessorised well, they didn't hide, they didn't scuttle from the sunlounger into the water trying to avoid anyone seeing them, they walked by the side of the pool as if they were walking a catwalk and like they were Kate Moss. And they looked fabulous .

So i vote bikini, a spray tan, and a "I am fabulous" attitude!
