I'd like to know who the moderators are.

Maybe she and Jeffrey will fall in love and start a wedding thread?

CoteDAzur · 21/08/2015 08:07

Mistress - Dune & it's 5 sequels are great. I used to go around telling people about the conversations in those books, such as the one Yellow mentioned.

Another one is about "key logs and dependencies" in social situations, making the analogy to how fallen timber used to be transported down rivers. Once in a while the logs would lock in a jam and expert would be brought in to understand dependencies and point out the key log that had to be removed to release the jam.

EBearhug · 21/08/2015 08:26

Splendid. I typed a long and balanced post, and then the bloody browser crashed.

LazyLohan · 21/08/2015 08:37

I have a feeling that blog may have served her goady purpose. What I don't understand is why she's so keen to get lawyers and the police involved yet feels that everybody else 'has it coming'.

I do have reservations about parts of Mumsnet. I was watching a programme last night about cults and it rang more than a few bells with me about how certain people operate on the relationships section of this board. But I'm prepared to say what I think about that, as are some other posters and I choose to stay off certain sections of the board. But when certain things spill over into other sections I do challenge it.

I just don't understand the willingness of some people to allow the web to intrude into RL so much. Be that hacking, harbouring grudges or following the dubious advice of strangers with their own personal axe to grind.

When I switch off the internet that's it. Don't think about it, don't care. It's a shame such a useful tool can sometimes be so destructive.

SuffolkNWhat · 21/08/2015 10:20

Good to see you Red, we certainly locked horns with 20 over Bounty didn't we!

I think I'll pass Vind Smile

I've given 20 enough headspace for one decade (or lifetime). Maybe time to take our own advice and "let it go"!

On the plus side I may have scored a new Dune convert Grin

vindscreenviper · 21/08/2015 11:26

I've asked MNHQ to delete that post, in hindsight it looks like an invitation to pile onto another thread and I don't want to be accused of being a BULLY Grin
As an aside, when a blogger calls themselves "PR friendly" are they saying that they will never write a bad review of any of the free stuff they receive? That's how it reads to me, but I'm a cynical old thing.

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 11:30

Not sure Vind but then blogs are not usually my thing....I'd rather read a good book Smile

vindscreenviper · 21/08/2015 11:37

I don't have much experience of this kind of blog either Yellow, I'm going to have another attempt at getting into Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, it's not doing much for me so far.

StarTravels · 21/08/2015 11:40

Perhaps instead of trying to act as if nothing nasty ever happens, and blaming everyone they can who they know full well they have given cause to be disgruntled, e.g. Fathers4Justice

The20Something, I assumed people thought the hack had something to do with Fathers for Justice because one of the hacker’s original twitter accounts was following only their twitter accounts; and because he called himself “DadSecurity” … not for any other reason. Perhaps I’m wrong?

I also didn't appreciate someone signing up as my nn and the Mods refusing to give me their details

It’s ridiculous to suggest MNHQ should give out private personal details of anyone on the forum, regardless of the reason. You’re actually complaining that MNHQ are not prepared to break the law, and infringe the data protection act because you asked them to?

Re: Bounty, when I was in post-natal recently I was given an ‘opt out’ form to fill out if I didn’t want to be bothered, so it sounds like they may have changed their approach… although I was a bit too caught up in what was happening and didn’t get time to opt out by the time they made it to my bed!

Why are we calling this hacker Jeffrey? Have I missed something?

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 11:48

Vind that's funny...

I'm an avid reader (2 books a week on average) and rarely give up on a book. Even when I'm not enjoying it I feel compelled to finish it!

However JS & MN was one I just couldn't get through. I struggled to the mid way point and just gave in.

It sits on my bookshelf eyeing me accusingly and I feel I'm going to have to give it another go - but given its years since I last picked it up I'd have to start at the beginning and I just can't face it! Shock

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 11:52

Star there is a thread in site stuff that explains the Jeffrey thing called (surprisingly) something like "what's all this Jeffrey thing about"

RedToothBrush · 21/08/2015 12:13

I thought Jeffrey was the Toys R Us giraffe.

I think that's probably where I'm leave the level of my knowledge. It seems somehow fitting.

vindscreenviper · 21/08/2015 12:14

Hmm, might just leave it in the gite then Yellow, that way I won't be tempted to wade through it again in a few years.

DS1 has Tale of Two Cities and some Verne/H G Wells on his Nook which are looking pretty tempting at the moment.

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 12:18

I'd plumb for the Verne personally Grin

StarTravels · 21/08/2015 12:32

Thanks Yellow, I will have a look!

ArcheryAnnie · 21/08/2015 13:02

Welp, she's closed comments on her blog (without approving most of the ones that disagree with her, it seems) but has unlocked her twitter.

I'm almost minded to engage, but on reflection I really cannot be arsed. She's not hugely bright, and she has dug herself into such a hole that it's impossible for her to dig herself out under scrutiny without losing face.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 21/08/2015 13:17

There's no point engaging - am annoyed with myself for wasting time on this yesterday. You can't debate with people who lack the ability to reflect and who simply throw up straw men and great doses of paranoia in response to your attempts to reason with them.

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 13:46

That sentiment feels like a good way to round off this thread Jeffrey Smile

TheyreMadITellYouMaaaad · 21/08/2015 13:51

YellowTulips, another avid reader here, but clearly not avid enough to have read the thread properly, as I thought you were referring to a book or books called 'Just Shagging and Mumsnet' Grin

A Tale of Two Cities and Dune are among my favourite books. Hmmm...I can feel some re-reads coming along.

YellowTulips · 21/08/2015 14:02

Now there's a title Grin
