So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

We tend to have a takeaway pizza or curry once a month or so. We wait until DC in bed though. We usually go out to eat about once a month too. Fast foods like KFC or McDonald's is once in a blue moon as I just don't find it that nice to be honest.

BerniceB · 18/08/2015 20:39

Not as often as that.

I've found that takeaways (with the exception of the posh pizza place) are increasingly disappointing. Even the chippy has gone downhill since it was taken over.

noeffingidea · 18/08/2015 20:40

We never have takeaways. We eat out occasionally though.

ghostyslovesheep · 18/08/2015 20:48

not often - we have a take out maybe once a month

we do have movie night every Friday though which involves popcorn

Titsalinabumsquash · 18/08/2015 20:49

I don't think it's unusual.

We were getting stuck in a takeaway rut for a while, resorting to just eat when we cba to cook dinner or plan or shop, we ended up fat and skint and quite low.
We now make a real effort to keep takeaways for special occasions a few times a year and cook every night, even if it's something simple.

DonttouchthatLarry · 18/08/2015 20:50

We have a Chinese takeaway once or twice a month - the two of us share though, so it's not expensive, £6.60 for both of us. If we ever go to the chippy we share that too so around £5 ish - could never eat a portion of chippy chips each so would be a waste of money. I know other couples who order mains each and side dishes to share and end up spending around £20 but we would rather go to the pub to eat if spending that much. We also sometimes go to the village pub on curry night, curry and a pint for £7.95 - bargain! We do otherwise cook at home, and eat quite healthily, I don't think anything in moderation is bad and certainly wouldn't be horrified about people having takeaway once a week - it's the ones on 'Secret Eaters' etc. who have one (or more!) every day who need to worry.

Greenlandrover · 18/08/2015 20:50

No.

You can have an otherwise healthy diet and not be overweight and still drop dead from a heart attack though.

Those weekly takeaways are racking up your cholesterol without you realising, because of the above complacency.

Dismiss the idea that only fat, unhealthy, older adults have heart attacks. It happens to children, young women, athletes, and it isn't even that rare.

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/08/2015 20:50

Most people I know do, we probably have takeaway - usually pizza - a couple of times a year, but we go out for lunch or dinner either Saturday or Sunday pretty much every week, and often have things like M&S "dine in". As a kid my parents always had Chinese takeaway on a Saturday night, and we kids got chips from the takeaway with something like fish fingers which was a huge treat.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/08/2015 20:51

Not normal here. Take away less than once a month.

Spilose · 18/08/2015 20:53

I'm having one now. £9 for me and OH incl delivery. We don't pig out and get loads though

Tory79 · 18/08/2015 20:54

Yes, dh and I have a curry or chinese pretty much every Saturday night.

morelikeguidelines · 18/08/2015 20:54

We don't. It's once every few months, possibly every six months. We do have shop bought pizza though.

It's too expensive to have every week, for us anyway.

VirginiaTonic · 18/08/2015 20:55

I think it's quite common. We rarely have one as don't really like them, except curry, which we might have about once every couple of months. We do eat out around once a week instead though, either at the local pub, pizza express, or and indian or chinese restaurant etc. which amounts to the same sort of thing in terms of healthyness.

ceeveebee · 18/08/2015 20:58

No, probably once every couple of months, but do eat out probably once a week though. When I was younger I used to work in a fish and chip shop and believe me there were lots of families who had takeaway more than once a week, and would eat a pie while they waited!!

mateysmum · 18/08/2015 20:58

We don't but then we live so far from the nearest takeaway that it would be stone cold by the time we got home!

insanityscatching · 18/08/2015 20:59

We have takeaway once every six weeks or so, usually fish and chips.I'm quite often disappointed though so that's probably the reason it's not more frequent. We do eat out probably once a fortnight though.

DeandraReynolds · 18/08/2015 20:59

Can't afford to do it weekly but I think lots of people do.

Growing up we always used to get (shop) pizza, crisps, fizzy drinks and sweets on a Friday night though.

AspieAndNT · 18/08/2015 21:00

We do. Boys have mcd or KFC one night when we are both working and so home late.

We also eat out a lot too.

SanityClause · 18/08/2015 21:04

We couldn't possibly afford to do that!

In fact DH went away last month, so I got a takeaway for the DC and me, and it was a real disappointment. We have eaten at the restaurant (Thai) a number of times, and I was really looking forward to it, but it just wasn't the treat I was hoping it would be.

LaContessaDiPlump · 18/08/2015 21:04

Once every 2 months for me (if that) but DH gets himself a Chinese as his post-pub homeward drunken ramble food Blush Grin

MagicMojito · 18/08/2015 21:04

Unless we are skint, we try to make Friday night chippy night Smile

We have a lovely and cheap chippy at the end of our road and only cost £7 for the 3 of us. We will usually get an Indian/Chinese/Italian takeaway on birthday/anniversaries etc.

girlynut · 18/08/2015 21:06

Fish n chips with kids on a Friday night and curry with DP on a Saturday night.

Pixel · 18/08/2015 21:10

We have takeaway food maybe twice a year, say if we were coming back from a day out and it was getting late we might pick up fish and chips on the way home. It's far too expensive to do regularly.

In fact last week we had our first ever takeaway delivery since we moved in here 11 years ago. Is this the start of a slippery slope? Grin

sciaticasucks · 18/08/2015 21:12

Friday night is takeaway night in our house without fail.
Fortunately we live in an area of London where food from every country you could think of is available within a mile radius.

Its great having so much choice but even though there's only me, DP and teen DS here, we've had to come up with a system whereby one person each week makes the decision without any input from anyone else, as prior to that it would often take longer to reach an agreement on which meal to have than to order it, have it delivered and eat it!
