So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

Not here, either, sorry. 4 times a year, if that.

AlpacaPicnic · 18/08/2015 20:19

And we live in a heavily student-populated area so the choices are vast

Chocoholic21 · 18/08/2015 20:20

We do. Every Friday night when DC are in bed, DP and I have Indian or Chinese takeaway. We will also sometime have fish and chips one night all of us, but maybe only a couple of times a month. DC go to their dads (my ex) every other weekend and DP and I then usually have the usual takeaway on a Friday and go out on the Saturday for dinner.

DP works long hours and is not a very good cook so the only way for me to have a night off cooking is to pay for someone else to do it! I work too and do almost everything for DCs so by the weekend I am ready for a bit if a break!

PestoSwimissimos · 18/08/2015 20:21

Nope we don't
Never have
And never will

For me it's not about the cost, more about a lifestyle choice

thehypocritesoaf · 18/08/2015 20:22

We do.

I'm an unenthusiastic cook and dh gets home late and knackered. We have Thai or Indian.

We don't have ready meals tho...

FenellaFellorick · 18/08/2015 20:22

We have one maybe a few times a year. It's really expensive.

Matilda2013 · 18/08/2015 20:23

Used to be every Saturday at my mums (Chinese takeaway) and now I live with dp we don't have a set day just days we don't feel like cooking or are avoiding food shopping with ds isn't here sometimes happens more than once a week.. So yeah if you can afford it and it's a treat why not?

peacefuleasyfeeling · 18/08/2015 20:23

I saw a family who did this on TV once. Don't know anyone who does it. We don't on account of the expense. It would be something like £70 / month for 4?

ginmakesitallok · 18/08/2015 20:24

Friday night is curry night, but kids have their tea earlier. We probably have takeaway as a family once a month or so, maybe more

DoreenLethal · 18/08/2015 20:24

Once every couple of months, if that. And only usually after a gruelling day for both of us.

Ilovecrapcrafts · 18/08/2015 20:25

We eat out in a restaurant or pub once or twice a week, which I
Guess is the same although we wouldn't often choose food
As greasy as dominos or fish and chips

thehypocritesoaf · 18/08/2015 20:25

Yes our dc are already in bed. Ha.

ThereIsIron · 18/08/2015 20:25

Takeaways one a month or less here (chippy/chinese) - we prefer to make our own curry). We do eat out more often though maybe 2/3 times a month as that's nicer.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 18/08/2015 20:25

Only answering for your survey, I think it's at least 8 years since we had takeaway food in our house.

Bellebella · 18/08/2015 20:27

We don't, just can't afford to do it every week. We are fans of fake away instead at home. We do cheat night with supermarket bought pizza/burgers/chicken etc. Much cheaper and you can make it healthier.

cottonTale · 18/08/2015 20:28

Yabu, we pretty much never get a takeaway - too expensive and not keen on the quality. We tend to get curries or pizza from Waitrose or m & s if we fancy a treat, much cheaper and always delicious.

SaveMeBarry · 18/08/2015 20:29

We get a Chinese or Indian maybe every 6 or 8 weeks. We do eat out more often though, probably two or three times a month. Takeaways are pricey around here for what you get so we prefer a family friendly restaurant.

Don't feel too bad though Op, I think you just posted on the wrong day! Honestly, there was a thread only a few months back asking the same and I swear it must have got to around 200 posts most of which were once a week takeaway people. I certainly assumed based on that one that a weekly takeaway was normal in the UK (am not in UK) Smile

neolara · 18/08/2015 20:30

We don't. About once every six months.

BuggersMuddle · 18/08/2015 20:31

I don't think it's that unusual. We are probably 2-3 times a month, but might also grab a Nandos sit in if we're out of an evening, so if you include that it could be up to 4-5 times in total.

Having said that, we genuinely do split a portion of Indian / Chinese takeaway between 2 with maybe a shared starter. I'm not kidding on it's health food, but our preferred Chinese / Indian takeaways cook everything fresh, loads of meat and veg and nothing tastes to greasy / salty.

I try to limit pizza because it's relatively poor value for money. DP loves a chippy, but I can't eat them as they make me sick.

We are both really good cooks, but sometimes we get in late / just cba. No kids though, so no children were harmed in the making of this menu Grin

Haffdonga · 18/08/2015 20:31

We don't every week - maybe three or four of times a year.

BoskyCat · 18/08/2015 20:32

We have a "takeaway" every Friday, but most times it's a supermarket version. Once in a while, when we're very tired / feeling flush, we will have the proper delivery thing.

However we have Indian, Thai or Italian and it's quite expensive – if you're having McDonald's or fish & chips it's probably a bit cheaper.

TravellingToad · 18/08/2015 20:34

We do. Just DH and I after the children are in bed on a friday night (aged 1 and 3 so asleep by 7:30)

toboldlygo · 18/08/2015 20:34

We have a takeaway every week without fail. It's just the two of us though so not too expensive and justifiable by cutting back in other areas (we very rarely eat out, for example).

I look forward to it all week. Blush

Savagebeauty · 18/08/2015 20:35

Never.
The dcs (teens) might order pizza once a month but I never eat them .
I'd rather go out for lunch.

Rhiana1979 · 18/08/2015 20:35

Chinese takeaway every Friday night Grin
