So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

"I don't cook on a Friday" is my mantra Grin

Clayhead · 18/08/2015 20:06

About 4 or 5 times a year here.

SaucyJack · 18/08/2015 20:07

We very rarely get an actual take-away as a family, but that's only because if I'm gonna spend £25 on junk food I'd rather go out to a pub/cafe and do it so we get to get out the house at the same time.

We eat out most weekends tho.

trilbydoll · 18/08/2015 20:07

It's the same price to just go to Ask or whatever though, I'd rather go out. I don't like Indian and DH doesn't like Chinese which rather limits our takeaway options! We probably get Dominos every couple of months. McDonalds is a snack though, not a meal, surely you're all hungry 20 mins later?!

SenecaFalls · 18/08/2015 20:08

When our children were growing up, every Friday was pizza night. DH and I both worked long hours during the week and the last thing that anyone wanted to do was cook. We had several really good pizza restaurants near us (we were/are in Florida).

Itscurtainsforyou · 18/08/2015 20:09

Definitely. Fish and chips on Friday is the law.

We might have a Chinese/Indian takeaway every 1-2 months too, depending on how organised we've been with meal planning/how knackered we are...

hashtagwhatever · 18/08/2015 20:09

We do and we did growing up.

Milllii · 18/08/2015 20:09

I think it was done a lot in the 70/80s to have a fish and chip supper on a Friday.

Amummyatlast · 18/08/2015 20:10

No, we never get takeaway.

magimedi · 18/08/2015 20:10

Don't think we've had a carry out for about 10 years.

But it is just DH & me here & we are retired so have plenty of time to cook.

RunAwayHome · 18/08/2015 20:12

no, hardly ever.

Expense rather than any other reason though. There are lots of takeaways I'd really like. But I do buy things like ready-make curries etc occasionally, so that's kind of the equivalent I guess.

KinkyAfro · 18/08/2015 20:13

Every Saturday night without fail we have a Chinese takeaway - half crispy duck with pancakes, 2 Har Kau, 2 Siu Mai, 4 meat spring rolls, a portion of salt & pepper chicken wings and DP has a portion of chips. I look forward to it all week Smile

Superexcited · 18/08/2015 20:13

We haven't had a takeaway in about 3 years!

applecatchers36 · 18/08/2015 20:13

Yes we have takeaway once a week. Indian or Chinese we can't go out so much with young DC so it's our treat. We are not overweight.

RabbitSaysWoof · 18/08/2015 20:14

I used to but don't have as much money now, if I could afford it I would without any guilt at all I don't think a night off of healthy (or even an couple some weeks) would make a family with an otherwise home cooked diet unhealthy.
DS has a mcdonalds milkshake every weekend as hes weekend treat I dont feel bad about that as I know he has only little treats during the week.

Mintyy · 18/08/2015 20:14

We have a takeaway about once a month or 6 weeks.

Puffinella · 18/08/2015 20:14

We don't (too expensive and we don't really like takeaway that much), but I don't think it's unheard of. I would say it's a bit more than average, maybe, but not excessively so.

StampyMum · 18/08/2015 20:14

We don't, although that's partly cos we live in a wee town with not many options. When we lived in a city, we had Japanese takeaway every few weeks, although it was really expensive, so maybe not that often. We have supermarket pizza on the sofa as an alternative. Growing up, we often had chippy food on a Friday, my mum thought it was nice to give them a break from cooking.

AnotherTimeMaybe · 18/08/2015 20:14

Me and Dh do it every two weeks but with the DCs we don't do takeaways as we are going out every 2-3 weeks
But I don't think it's unreasonable every week especially if you have a good diet generally

FleeBee · 18/08/2015 20:16

We don't. DH & 2 DC. We have fish & chips maybe every other month. Never ever Dominoes, it just cost too much !

teacher54321 · 18/08/2015 20:16

We used to have more takeaways before we had ds, probably once a fortnight, but we also used to eat out LOADS. We now snack out a lot, ie have coffees and sandwiches out but rarely have proper meals out as he's a fidget and it's not very relaxing. We probably have a takeaway once a month.

BurningBridges · 18/08/2015 20:17

Too expensive, and if we had it every week not sure we would enjoy it. I'd say once every 6 to 8 weeks. I had suspected/heard of families doing this though, I suppose if you can afford it ...

AlpacaPicnic · 18/08/2015 20:17

DH gets a couple of takeouts a week on nights when I am exercising and he is doing his hobby with friends.

I get less opportunities (through choice) but still manage one every 2-3 weeks. But I do make a meal last a couple of days though. Mmm... Leftovers!

AlpacaPicnic · 18/08/2015 20:18

But we have no dcs, it's just the two of us...

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/08/2015 20:18

Not necessarily takeaway but we do eat fried food once a week or so.
I believe a healthy diet is a balanced diet, with no foods excluded.
