So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

We did until I started my diet 3 weeks ago. A dominos pizza usually on a Friday or Saturday, especially if eldest DS has a friend sleeping over.

chocomochi · 18/08/2015 21:18

We've never had a take away! It's too expensive and I prefer to cook at home.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 18/08/2015 21:18

We do. Every friday night. Just cant be bothered to cook so pick the easier option. We are a family of 5. None of the DC's are overweight (me and DH are, but thats also to do with the amount of crap we eat at other times as well)

We have to pick it up though (or sit in at KFC, Maccy D's etc) as no-one delivers to us.

Onecurrantbun · 18/08/2015 21:21

We have either a takeaway or a curry meal deal from the supermarket every week. In addition we have fish and chips a couple of times a month. DDs are only 3 & 1 so although they join us for a chippy tea we usually see takeaway as a treat once they're asleep. We go out for a meal as a family every 6 weeks or so but DH and I don't go out together due to babysitters (or lack thereof) so it's a chance to spend some time together.

MiddleAgedandConfused · 18/08/2015 21:22

Friday night is curry night for me and DH. Dcs have normal healthy tea unless they sweet talk us into letting them have Chinese.

MulberryHandbag · 18/08/2015 21:26

Once a month at the most here. I'd blow up like a balloon if I ate takeaway more often! I feel so dirty afterwards (but it tastes soon good Grin)

AuntyMag10 · 18/08/2015 21:27

We have about 2-3 a week, 1/2 dinner and a lunch over the weekend. I don't think that's excessive.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/08/2015 21:28

no. have one about three or four times a year.

ArriettyMatilda · 18/08/2015 21:29

As a teenager we had it about once a week on average (and I had it twice weekly when I worked in a Chinese takeaway). Now we have it once a month, mostly because we try to budget. When I worked at the takeaway we had lots of people come in every week, some who'd order exactly the same. So I wouldn't say it's uncommon.

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2015 21:30

Probably every few months here. I don't think most families do it weekly.
I'm just not that keen to be honest, most takeaways are nothing special.

Thenthatsthatthen · 18/08/2015 21:32

I lived with my grandparents until I was 10 and every sturday was chip shop night as they both worked long hours all week and they my grandma wanted a night off. But i couldn't afford it nowadays, maybe once a month on payday. My grandparents still do though!

clary · 18/08/2015 21:32

No, we don't. We had fish and chips for tea one night 2 weeks ago but we were on a seaside holiday.

We had Dominoes for DD's birthday in June and months ago DH and I had a rare Indian. I would say we do this maybe 3-4 times a year max. We just don't have the money. Also I am not a big fan of fish and chips or takeaway curry made from battery chicken.

Each to their own tho. I am sure lots and lots of people eat takeaway food more often than we do.

FreeButtonBee · 18/08/2015 21:33

I hadn't bothered with takeaway for years and then deliveroo came into my life. Which does delivery from local proper restaurants. Totally awesome. Now we use it probably weekly but we do have three under 3 and little family help so one night off a week is a well deserved treat and the quality is excellent.

BolshierAyraStark · 18/08/2015 21:34

Couldn't afford one every week & don't think I'd choose to either tbh, every couple of months maybe.

AuntyMag10 · 18/08/2015 21:38

FreeButton we love deliveroo too!
We are surrounded by some of the best restaurants so have been indulging using the app!

Totality22 · 18/08/2015 21:41

I don't cook on a Saturday - it might be a take away, we might eat out (we as in me and DP) or I may eat out with friends, DP may cook or else we'll have picky foods or even a microwave meal. So nope not a take away every Saturday but definitely Saturday is my non cooking day.

namelessposter · 18/08/2015 21:42

Nope. Couple of times a year.

Writerwannabe83 · 18/08/2015 21:46

Saturday night = curry night Grin

DeeWe · 18/08/2015 21:46

No! Once a month probably at most. Growing up very rarely as df was liable to remark he expected to buy the whole shop with the price they were charging. Grin
Only time we ever ordered a pizza we were very disappointed with it.

Purplehonesty · 18/08/2015 21:51

Maybe once a month or less here.

Chchchchanging · 18/08/2015 21:53

We have take away maybe once every two months
Tbh don't know anyone who is weekly
I wouldn't want the crap that often prefer chocolateWink

Gruntfuttock · 18/08/2015 21:57

"We have about 2-3 a week"

AuntyMag10 I've just worked out that is between 312 and 468 over 3 years, whereas (as I said above) we have between 1 and 2 over 3 years. Wow, just goes to show how variable it is.

TheCatsMother99 · 18/08/2015 21:58

We have a takeaway or eat out at least once a week. My DH's family used to always have one a week but with my family it was just a special occasion thing like a birthday treat.

sticklebrickstickle · 18/08/2015 22:00

It's not usual for us to have takeaway or a meal out more than once a month.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2015 22:03

No regular routine for us, but if you averaged it over a year we either eat out or have takeaway about once a week. Dominos, Chinese or Indian takeaway usually or eat out at a pub or pizza place, no McDs etc within 10 miles of here.
