So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

I've gone off takeaways lately, they always seem a lot less fresh than when you eat in. We eat out probably twice a week instead.

Mumsnet: the only place in the world where you start a thread asking how much people earn and the majority say 'oh, six figures.' Then a few days later you start a thread asking how often people eat takeaway and the majority say it's too expensive Grin

About three times a month here OP.

I don't find most takeaways hideously expensive at all. They're much cheaper than eating out.

We are two adults and two pre-schoolers plus a few bits for the under-1baby.

F&C - a tenner for two large fish and chips plus gravy.

Chinese - £15. A quarter crispy shredded duck, prawn toast, half a boiled rice, half a Yung Chow fried rice, sweet and sour chicken & crispy chilli beef.

Indian - £25 set banquet for 2. Loads and loads and we can't eat it between us all.

Dominoes - £30 for two pizzas. We don't bother. It's extortion.

I probably had a regular takeaway - maybe once a week or fortnight - when I was in my twenties and early thirties, but I'm almost 40 now and very rarely eat them. Partly because they're just not that nice, I'd rather have fresh home cooked food, and partly because they're madly fattening in the main and I have to watch everything I eat these days to stay a size I'm happy with.

SacredHeart · 19/08/2015 20:20

After reading this thread we had a Chinese take-away!

Wan ton soup
Dumplings
1/2chow mein
1/2 rice
Crispy shredded chilli chicken

Me and DD have one maybe every couple of months as a treat. I cant eat them too often as the grease upsets my stomach so I have to be careful what takeaway we have.

2rebecca · 19/08/2015 20:29

We're every 2 to 3 weeks but were weekly when our local take aways were better and the kids were younger. Now we go to the pub once a week for dinner instead.

2rebecca · 19/08/2015 20:30

I find the currys too greasy and the Chinese too salty. Our local pub meals are too chips with everything as well (but that's the nicest pub with the best beer).

Fierceflora · 19/08/2015 20:34

No we don't either. We may have a Chinese take away once every 2-3 months maybe. Very very rarely have fish and chips apart from if we go to the beach.

MintJulip · 19/08/2015 20:49

Nope!

Certainly not at the moment and not for a long time.

Too expensive.

If we had the ££ I wouldnt mind, you can have healthier take away options.

Mrsjayy · 19/08/2015 20:58

Aww bum now i want shredded duck we have a take away once a fortnight saturday or sunday night.

pocketsaviour · 19/08/2015 21:05

When I lived in the north we used to have one about once a week, but it's too expensive now I'm in the south again :(

£4 for a large kebab, that would do me and my ex. And before that, my H and I would get a Chinese takeout every Friday, about £6 for us and DS.

I'd need a mortgage to do that down here. Hmm

RachelZoe · 19/08/2015 21:09

Totally normal, "Friday Thaiday" in this house. As long as everybody is otherwise fit and healthy/has a good diet and nobody gorges themselves silly I don't see the problem.

AskBasil · 19/08/2015 21:12

We don't. Maybe once every couple of months.

TalkinPeace · 19/08/2015 21:17

Takeaway phone/internet : delivered = Once a Month
Supermarket heat and eat takeaway food = Once a month
Home made pizza / curry = Once a week
Eat out = Once or twice a month.

I too am amused at the hypocrisy of MN posters who seem to forget that a curry from waitrose has the same crap as a curry from a leaflet
and that lots of restaurant meals have as little nutrition as something ordered through Just Eat.

marshmallowpies · 19/08/2015 21:17

RachelZoe FridayThaiday! I would do that like a shot, I love Thai & would choose that over any other takeaway, any day. Mind you the other week I was craving Thai green curry and decided to try cooking it from scratch (using paste from a jar, not completely from scratch) - maybe not as good as from a really good takeaway, but very satisfying to make it myself.

Reubs15 · 19/08/2015 21:22

I think that's a lot personally. Plus no way could we afford that. I don't think the average family could. Didn't eat from a fast food place til I was 16 as my parents just didn't like it!

TalkinPeace · 19/08/2015 21:28

You never had fish and chips on a Friday?
Are you English?

BackforGood · 19/08/2015 21:29

Yes, YABU to think that. Once a week is a lot, and I suspect only a small% of people have a takeaway once a week.

Me2you · 19/08/2015 21:31

Most people I know have one a week there a nothing wrong with it especially when you've ate well all week.

Behooven · 19/08/2015 21:35

YANBU. We do, on a Saturday, because it's such a busy day for us all.

YouWakeUpFlawless · 19/08/2015 21:37

We have a takeaway every Friday night; DP goes to the pub after work til 6, so Feed DD at normal time and then have a takeaway when she's in bed,
I cook all week & work late Thursday nights, so look forward to it

SmilingHappyBeaver · 19/08/2015 21:37

5-6 times a month here! But only DH and I, not the kids. We all exercise a lot and life is too short to worry about the odd takeaway.

YouWakeUpFlawless · 19/08/2015 21:39

Oh and tend to eat out once a week as a family too, whether that's breakfast lunch or dinner

Boxoffrogs123 · 19/08/2015 21:49

Oop north it's pretty cheap , and yes once a week is not excessive. I like to think of it as my night off , waiting for everyone to say and why can't he cookShock because he works 70 hours minimum self employed. All fed no one dead etc.

WorktoLive · 19/08/2015 22:04

According to this the average is up to 3 times a week Shock.

Outside this thread, some people are eating a lot of takeaways.

or else some people on here are fibbing.
