So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

I don't cook at the weekend so if dh and I are out Sat night, kids will get takeaway, and we all get one every Sunday night. Unhealthy yes but I try to cook healthily all week so don't want to be cooking weekends.

Blu · 19/08/2015 00:31

We get a chip shop dinner two or three times a year, and when food is needed quickly and when inspiration is short (and we enjoy it, too).

Never ever have any of the other standard takeouts at home. Don't like them (McD, KFC), resent the massive price compared to better shop bought alternative (pizza), or don't have anywhere good locally (Chinese / Indian). And we like going out to eat so would rather go out less often than spend ££ regularly on takeaways.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2015 00:46

Yep. Friday night is takeaway night.

ProfessorBranestawm · 19/08/2015 00:54

I'd say we have some fast food or sometimes a takeaway every week or two but we don't have a weekly/monthly etc tradition, it's just when we can't be arsed to do otherwise or if I've forgotten to pack a lunch or something.

Mind you today we went to the Toby Carvery and had mains/drinks/pudding for about the same cost as our usual Pizza Hut order. We all enjoyed it much more TBH so might do that more in future if we are really wanting something easy. Didn't get the 'ugh' post-takeaway-carbs feeling.

HicDraconis · 19/08/2015 01:22

We don't - more of a health reason than expense for us. We have pizza night once a week but make our own dough / tomato paste. DS2 isn't keen on Chinese, neither boy likes Indian (and it's ridiculously unhealthy), fish and chips maybe once every few months.

We eat out far more often but still not in once/week territory. Boys both whippet thin, DH / me both overweight at a BMI of around 28. If that is relevant :-)

I'm intrigued by the existence of a curry bible though - off to google that one! It would be great if I could make some reasonably authentic curries.

MrsSippy · 19/08/2015 01:31

Might have a takeaway but more likely to be filling me plate at the local carvery at least once a week.

Moopsboopsmum · 19/08/2015 01:45

We did when we lived in UK. Friday curry night. Now we live abroad we go out to eat once a week.

SilverNightFairy · 19/08/2015 01:56

We have take away every Friday or Saturday night. It's tradition in our family. Fortunately, we live in an ethnically diverse area so our food options are greater than pizza.

shadowfax07 · 19/08/2015 02:10

We probably get a takeaway 3 times a month, although tbh, I prefer Co-op own brand pizzas to Domino's, and the OH really enjoys cooking curry on the weekend. His lamb and spinach curry is better than anything you'd get from a takeaway, and my chicken tikka isn't bad either! Grin

onecurrantbun1 · 19/08/2015 06:24

We don't spend anything like £30, or enough to cover a meal out. We use a "Any pizza any size £9.99" and just have a large pizza with whatever coleslaw/salad is in the fridge. If Chinese, we have 2 "wet" dishes, a rice and a portion of chips between us, approx £12. Chippy tea is usually £7ish for the 4 of us (DH has sausage, I have mini fish and the kids have fishcake). I suppose it'll get more expensive when the children are older

Twinkie1 · 19/08/2015 06:30

We eat takeaway probably once every couple of months.

It's not normal in this house at all.

Sallystyle · 19/08/2015 06:33

Friday.

Our new routine is to never cook on a Friday.

SinglePringle · 19/08/2015 06:41

An Indian maybe once or twice a year? And always chicken shashlik and a plain spinach side dish as it's all too fattening and I can cook better Indian food.

Never pizza, KFC, McD's or Nandos etc. Seriously couldn't tell you the last time.

I eat out maybe once a week on average; tapas, fish, steak, Vietnamese, sushi etc are all devoured!

maxxytoe · 19/08/2015 06:46

Sometimes I'll have Chinese twice a week and then not have one for 3.
I get one at least once a month.

DS had McDonald's twice last week Shock

WorktoLive · 19/08/2015 06:48

We probably have takeaway about once a week and eat out once or twice a month. I think that's a good balance and this is probably one of the things where Mumsnet is vastly different to everyone else in the country.

Outside Mumsnet, there are probably a lot of people who have it 2 or 3 times a week at least. Particularly couples and single men people. Who do you think is keeping all those kebab, pizza or cheap and nasty chicken places in business?

Christinayanglah · 19/08/2015 06:59

We don't cook on a Saturday so it's either eating out or a takeaway

antimatter · 19/08/2015 07:00

Once in 6 months if that. Kids would like more often but IMHO is too expensive.

NoahVale · 19/08/2015 07:15

No, but in the past 3 months we have had fish and chips 3 times , mainly jsut DH and Me while dc out. but other than that it is an annual event. My birthday we had a take away Indian .

bereal7 · 19/08/2015 07:15

Dominoes every Tuesday , Eat out on Saturday and Chinese on a Sunday. That's the family plan.
I eat out on Friday too with my 'boyfriend' and other days if we meet up. (I workout a lot, I promise).

Usernamegone · 19/08/2015 07:17

I like to have a takeaway or eat out once a week. I don't think a once a week treat does any harm.

micromachine · 19/08/2015 07:20

We have them all the time or we eat out. We have had mcdonalds twice since Saturday. I am probably having a chinese tonight!

DragonRojo · 19/08/2015 07:22

not in our house. We have a takeaway maybe 3 times a year. Saturday is the only day when I have time to cook and eat together so I like doing that.

micromachine · 19/08/2015 07:25

In addition to the takeaways I eat out a lot. Last week I ate out at restaurants Monday lunch, Monday evening and Tuesday lunch. It is because I am meeting up with different friends or family.

mrsb83 · 19/08/2015 07:26

We have it once a week, it is either Chinese, pizza or one of those carrier bag 'takeaway type meals' from the supermarket.
