Smoking.

On holiday at the moment, 10 adults and 10 children. 5 of the adults smoke. It's ridiculous, they are chain smoking all freaking day.

AIBU that they stop whilst we are on vacation, or at least cut down? They are smoking on the balcony, which is the main place to sit.

Is it just me, or is this so rude/ antisocial? And so bad for the health! Not to mention there are kids involved too.

Why ? smokers and non smokers should both have manners shouldn't they?

its possible to smoke and not be inconsiderate of your friends surely?

Agree with the others! You can't go away on holiday with a group of smokers and expect them not to smoke. You did know they were smokers, right?

Not when it's a confined space like a balcony and it's constant.

considerate would he holding out a little more when they manage to do so for car journeys flights work days etc.

No, smoking outside is not considerate because the smell goes back in every sodding time.

However, if you choose to go on holiday with a group of smokers you really need to sort all this out well in advance, and if you can't make arrangements that are satisfactory to you, don't go.

They are smoking outside, not inside in which case you would be right to complain

Yes, it's a huge house, fits 20 people. Massive garden, outdoor space etc.

Loads of places to smoke, no one is smoking inside, there are three balconies but one main one where everyone is smoking their arses off. I mean 5/6 at a time, chain smoking, probably 25 per day. I didn't know people still smoked so much!

These people are not friends as such, its DH's family, two new boyfriends of SIL's who now also smoke too! So yes, I knew they smoked, but it was never this bad.

I know IABU.

But its disgusting and the five non smoker's are super uncomfortable. Not sure what to compare it to, but I wouldn't expect a vegetarian to eat a steak? They have no discretion at all. Bad comparison I guess.

It's their fucking holiday!!! You can't smoke in the UK, they are smoking on the balcony, wind in your arse and let them enjoy their bloody holiday, smoking in the sunshine!!

Would it not be simply resolved if people were asked to smoke a bit further away from the house as its wafting in?

Smoking is a social thing I think, in that if someone who's a smoker goes out for one another smoker goes to join and people probably are smoking more due to being on holiday. You'll be missing all the gossip as a non smoker. I used to smoke, hence I know

It is unpleasant for non smokers but nobody will quit ESP on holiday and as has been said, that would be far worse to put up with

You could buy them all vapes, and ask them to vape instead on the balcony, and go further afield to actually smoke (that would still B pretty U but you could)

And NEVER go on holiday to Berlin as there are still smoking pubs and clubs, they have cigarette adverts on busstops, they sell fags in bakeries and chemists. You will spontaneously combust there! ( think I've just found the place I want to live in...)

They're picking one elevated area as Smokers' Corner. The DC won't be encountering dog ends around the garden.The dc aren't running around smokers and there's a huge space where no smoking is happening.
Smoking is still legal. They're being pretty sensible. Give them a break.

I am thinking holiday > balcony > fags > want one...

It's been years since I smoked but fortnight ago got pissed with smokers and had 5 in a row .

Next day I stank. Felt disgusting and not just hangover. Horrible things.

I would never go on holiday with smokers and my family, it's gross and they are 100% entitled to do it!

About 25 a day is also not really 'chain smoking'

OK, point taken, we could use the other balconies.

But its the main one, at the front of the house, leading from the dining area in the house onto the garden, overlooking the lake. It's the only one big enough to fit everyone to eat, has a huge table, and the BBQ is there.

One thing for sure, massive family holidays area a no no. With smokers like this, never again.

And they are all complaining about the cost! God help me.
