AIBU to be annoyed that Tesco didn't have a substitution for a loaf of bread?

Are they for fecking real? First time I've had my shopping delivered by Tesco and can't see myself using them again. Now I'm going to have to visit the shops anyway or no packed lunch tomorrow Angry.

It was just a white loaf! Any other load of bread would've done Confused

Did you select the option for substitutions?

I have mine automatically set to no subs because they once thought a £30 joint was a good sub for a pack of sausages!

I hate sustitution idiocy in online shops. I once put 3 bags of frozen blueberries in a Sainsburys online order (£5 for 3 on offer) and they substituted with 8 punnets of fresh (£16!!!) - worse still, DH accepted the substitution & signed for them! We had words and I drove them back to my local store for a refund. DH is now less haphazard regarding the substitutions, thank God, as they keep sending daft stuff.

Getting a £30 joint is a fantastic substitution for a pack of sausages though, since Tesco only charge you for the sausages!

Unlike Sainsburys who substitute with a more expensive option and then charge you for it.

I was told a while back that bread, milk and infant formula were automatic substitutions regardless of your preference. Tesco once didn't sent us bread and the driver advised us of that. We rang customer services and they sent us out a loaf as a special delivery!

It is strange though. I have had some fantastic substitutions and then, like the OP, occasionally I order something and it's not available and they don't substitute anything at all even though the shop definitely have other bread/red sauce/pasta on the shelves

Tescos online shopping is crap for substitutions! They couldn't find a substitute for a cake for me yesterday so my in laws have gone without!!

What is also crap about tescos online shopping is that your final cost for items changes. So when you get the final bill you find that lots of items weren't on promotion any longer and you pay double. I really wouldn't recommend it- I have issues nearly every order but I stick with it as I'm too lazy to change back to sainsburys.

But giving up bread is a fantastic thing to do for your health. Have you tried raw flax crackers?

I've never forgiven Tesco for once arriving with no substitute for wine! Seriously, no possible substitute!? I argued even a bottle of lemonade would have been better than nothing.

Zippys it's funny you should say that because I find the exact opposite. Tesco are the only shop that I always know what my final bill will be, as it's always clear on the website what the promotion dates are and if they substitute something more expensive they only charge for the cheaper option. And they rarely need to substitute anything anyway.

I gave up on Asda as they always always delivered stuff with a use by date of the day of delivery. And I gave up on Sainsburys as they always had loads of substitutions that cost more than what I wanted to pay.

I wonder is it down to how the whole thing is handled by the staff handling the order in the shop. I often see people complain about Tesco but my experience with them is great.

Tesco had no Pepsi and no substitute for me recently.

Lol at raw flax crackers- don't think they'd go down to well in my kids' packed lunches.

I haven't tried raw flax crackers (and I don't think I want to) and if I'd ordered bread I wouldn't consider them an adequate substitution.

I hate tesco. Their subs are really really crappy. Waitrose on the other hand have always been fab and more often than not I've received free items because they were right on the best before date. Waitrose always charged the lower price. So If I ordered their own brand baked beans and they only had heinz Id pay own brand price. Not bad at all.

Am I the only person on here who uses morrisons? I've always found their deliveries to be fine, apart from not having a substitution for the apples I ordered once.

Last time I used Tesco you could list acceptable substitutions and you can always just refuse them.

I said on another thread, I don't online shop often but when I do I only trust Ocado. Don't mind paying a few pence more for the right stuff and no petrol for an extra trip to store!

And yes yes to expensive subs with Sainsbury. No normal orange juice so you kindly offer to charge me a fortune for hand squeezed with gold flakes and unicorn tears.

I've had the occasional non-substitution from Tesco, including bread and wine, which is pretty weird given that they always have a shop/warehouse full of the stuff.

On the other hand, we've had some brilliant substitutions including £24 worth of prime beef when we'd ordered a couple of packs of cheap steaks on offer. And they don't charge you any more than the original item so that's pretty good imo.

I find morrisons is ok although because they pick from a warehouse opposed to a store the range is often limited but it tells you at the end what isn't in stock and you can pick your own subs opposed to getting completely random stuff

I dont think Tesco are too bad for subs to be honest. like a pp said, at least they only charge you for the original item (unless the sub is cheaper) and sometimes you get great subs.

We ordered 2 of tescos version of ben & Jerry's a couple of weeks ago. I got mine but DHs was subbed for Häagen Daaz (sp?) cue me sulking

Sainsburys once sent us £75 worth of dishwasher tablets Angry I'd ordered can't remember how many some as they were on a brilliant offer and it worked out about £20. they sent me the same amount at full price of a different brand. dh accepted them. Angry I rang and told them they were fucking idiots having a laugh if they thought it was an acceptable substitution when it was blatantly obvious that they'd been purchased in bulk as they were on offer. they apologised, said they'd have a word with the pickers (clearly they haven't) and another driver picked them up from our house when they were in the area. numptys.
