AIBU to be annoyed that Tesco didn't have a substitution for a loaf of bread?

Are they for fecking real? First time I've had my shopping delivered by Tesco and can't see myself using them again. Now I'm going to have to visit the shops anyway or no packed lunch tomorrow .

It was just a white loaf! Any other load of bread would've done

Yes, Sainsburys charges you for the substitutions.

So if, for example, I want a large box of cornflakes and get Kelloggs because they are on offer, often the large box (cos it's on offer) gets subbed. So they send you one or two of the small box of Kellogg's cornflakes. Which are doubly expensive because the smaller packet is and it's not on offer.

They say it's because that's what would happen in store, missing the point that I'd have chosen the own brand in store. And I get that they can't know who values brand and who values cost and on which products. But that's why the others don't charge extra for the subs.

I've also had ongoing rows with them about the comparison price showing based on full price and not offer price on the receipt thingy they wave at you when you decide to accept the substitution. So you are comparing full price of the sold out item, not the price you planned to pay. To which they seemed incapable of responding in a way related to my point and just kept wittering on about why they didn't price match substitutions.

I can't stand Sainsburys online. Can you tell?

I have mine automatically set to no subs because they once thought a £30 joint was a good sub for a pack of sausages!

But you hit the subs jackpot with that! Didn't you get it at the same price as the sausages?

The only thing I hate about online shopping is that there's no quality control with the meat/fruit/veg, you'll get whatever they pull out of the bin. Plus expiry dates tend to be short, and they're not always listed.

Shaun from Morrisons is due (in a Market Street van) any minute. Morrisons delivery is brilliant. Live stock updates so you just don't get subs - since January I've had one sub, which was pasta twists instead of pasta twirls, same weight and brand and price.

I like that they text you first thing to say what your subs are, or rather that there aren't any, so that if it's desperate you can make alternative arrangements.

It's all the convenience and service of Ocado, but at Morrisons prices. Love it.

Morrisons receipt lists fresh food by date, and if you have a quick look you can reject things too close to their date. I just chuck it in the freezer myself though.

I had a very interesting chat with click and collect lady at local tescos (it was quiet at the time). She said that the computer gives you suggested substitutions but quite often they are completely ridiculous BUT in their store they have young lads picking the things who don't engage their brains so either out in the stupid sub or leave it out completely. she says it tends to be the older ladies and gents who when picking use their judgment for an appropiate sub, so it depends on the picker

Once we were both ill so ordered some food from Asda rather than going to the shops. Most of the order was lots of different brands and flavours of soup. Apparently they didn't have any of them, or indeed any soup in the whole store. At least they refunded the delivery charge when I complain that most of the shop was missing.

Wow I'd have been thrilled with the £30 joint instead of sausages! You do realise that Tesco only charges for the original thing you asked for, not the substitution? I ordered a small punnet of cherries once, but they only had massive ones, which was brilliant!

You also have to make sure you look at your list and choose the "yes" or "no" to subs box.

I once ordered a few loose apples from Tesco and once the delivery driver was gone, I realised one had the stalk missing and was starting to rot around where the stalk would have been. Did an online chat, they refunded me for all the apples I had bought.

And the next week the delivery driver mentioned it, and inspected all the apples before handing them over. And then decided that a couple of them weren't as good as they should be (although they looked fine to me) and refunded all those apples too. And let me keep them.

I was very impressed

Hmmm. They had run out of the ice-cream I ordered first time I did an Ocado shop and didn't bother with a substitution. Not amused.

We paid for annual pass for Sainsburys (heavily discounted) so they only refunded what the delivery charge would have been when our shop was over 1.5 hours late recently. I was very annoyed though, as it buggered up our weekend. I want to know who does the full refunds, as our local Sainsburys has had some timing issues of late.

I'm glad everyone else has said about Sainburys substituting with much more expensive items. It really annoys me. Last Christmas Eve, they had substituted wine on a 3 for £10 deal for wine at £8.99 a bottle. The delivery driver and I did a quick mental calculation and he "returned" the equivalent value in upsold wine (2 of the 3 bottles) and then left the bottles with me - a strike for common sense.

There are some places ocado don't deliver? that's strange.

They do some lovley flax and Brazil nut crackers.
