AIBU to be annoyed that Tesco didn't have a substitution for a loaf of bread?

Are they for fecking real? First time I've had my shopping delivered by Tesco and can't see myself using them again. Now I'm going to have to visit the shops anyway or no packed lunch tomorrow Angry.

It was just a white loaf! Any other load of bread would've done Confused

But giving up bread is a fantastic thing to do for your health. Have you tried raw flax crackers?

Grin did OP ask for advice on her diet?

I find our Tesco does a pety good job with substitutions. I've benefited a few times because they've given me something moe expensive but only charge for what was ordered.

They did have a month when they had a problem with garlic. 3 times I ordered and the delivery man turned up and informed me that the was no garlic. Each time i did find garlic in my shopping but not charged for it.

Zippy If a product is due to go out of promotion before your delivery date it warns you and lists each item when you check out.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/08/2015 09:37

Order from Ocado, very good service and I rarely get substitutions.

Once you try there you'll be hooked. Hooked I tell ya!

fourtothedozen · 09/08/2015 09:38

This thread is hilarious- includes someone ordering eggs and having Cadbury cream eggs as a substitution, and another ordering Tampax and being sent a multi pack of Twix bars.

Sainsbury's once had no substitution for potatoes for us, which I found very hard to believe!

Their pickers do seem to have no common sense re substituting special offers, that is very true. I've had that happen a few times, but have trained DH to not just accept the substitutions now. :-)

LittleMissStubborn · 09/08/2015 09:42

Ocado doesn't deliver to us plebs our neck of the woods.

The whole Sainsburys not price matching is really annoying though, it is always on things on offer and they sub for a higher (and often smaller) product. But I can bet my bottom dollar it is always the one item I really need so end up accepting it.

Milkyway1304 · 09/08/2015 09:47

Sainsburys once substituted croutons for soup, lemons for lemonade and instead of the coffee DH likes we got very odd espresso flavoured yogurts.

SnozzberryPie · 09/08/2015 09:48

They once gave me real sausages when I ordered veggie ones! And they've substituted nappies for my toddler for newborn size. I imagine the pickers are teenage boys having a laugh Grin

More annoyingly, if you order items by weight they often give you much more than you ordered and charge you for it.

ClashCityRocker · 09/08/2015 09:48

I was in the middle of the period from hell Aand was struggling to get to then shops so did an online order..

Instead of the urgently required heavy sanitary towels, thy send me a pack of plasters

Jelliebabe1 · 09/08/2015 09:48

We tried Asda home delivery first as we tend to shop in store there... Disaster. I had 12 (yes 12) subs on the last order. We are now trying Tesco and we've had one, which was very reasonable and a nicer product! Grin. We are going to try Ocado as I have a voucher though!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/08/2015 09:49

What, no Ocado that's the end of civilisation Wink.

ShuShuFontana · 09/08/2015 09:51

dd recently started do the internet shopping and the system is pre programmed to suggest alternatives, and it's a lot of feckering about if the shopper does not go with the suggested alternative.

dd's best tale so far is the Pregnancy Test Substitution....the system recommends ..... CONDOMS!

She put in a different brand of test

Selks · 09/08/2015 09:57

Yep Asda is by far the worst for substitutions.

Is that right, that Sainsburys charges extra for the subs if they cost more than the original item? I didn't know that.

Morrisons is great, I use them. Veg and fruit is always lovely, good fish, and reasonably priced.

treaclesoda · 09/08/2015 10:01

There is no Ocado where I live either. Or Waitrose. Or Aldi. I feel very left out in supermarket discussions on mumsnet Sad

DragonMamma · 09/08/2015 10:02

I don't mind Tesco subs, I usually end up better off in terms of quality and quantity.

They had no sub for white wine before though, which I found very hard to believe. Their customer service team are great though and when I've had a sub on the finest meal deal, which has then knocked the promotion off, they would always refund me the full tenner.

They worked that out after a few months though but I had a free meal and a tenner back on my shopping most weeks!

treaclesoda · 09/08/2015 10:03

Sorry, that came out wrong. Ocado isn't an actual physical shop, is it?

Ah well, you knew what I meant.

I once shopped in a Booths when I was on holiday. It was supermarket heaven Grin

MissDuke · 09/08/2015 10:09

Treaclesoda me too. No morissons either Sad

BestIsWest · 09/08/2015 10:09

No Ocado here either. No Waitrose within 50 miles either.

liptolinford · 09/08/2015 10:15

Just spoke to their online chat and they were surprisingly helpful. The guy was as bemused as I was and has said he will get someone to ask the store what's gone wrong so it does not happen again.

He is also sending a "small gesture" to my email address (for which I can't remember the password and can't be bothered faffing to find it!), but I'm guessing it'll be free delivery or something like that.

At least their customer service branch has common sense Grin.

Zippy is right about the tesco promotions. It happened to me last week.
£12 worth of promotions had 'expired' between i assume when i added to basket and paid. It didnt warn me. And they showed as promotions on the email confirmation. But not on the bill from delivery.
Hopefully i am getting some of the difference refunded.

The5DayChicken · 09/08/2015 11:11

I've found Tesco to be really good for substitutions actually. I rarely get anything subbed, for one. I ordered a plain Pyrex casserole dish at Christmas and they subbed it for a far more expensive one with a lid but I only paid the amount for the one I ordered.

Asda on the other hand Angry . I no longer use them. Tried a few times but about half my order was subbed every single time. I'd end up rejecting ridiculous subs and going to the store to find a proper alternative myself, only to find they did have the items I ordered in stock. Was just a pick and mix of what the local store could be bothered finding. The final straw came when I ordered a dozen eggs and it was substituted for an individual-sized quiche Lorraine.

contractor6 · 09/08/2015 11:17

Must spend on the Tesco store, I've have one substitute on almost every order, but generally all is ok. And at least they offer the option of the substitute, ocado never used too....

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2015 11:29

" zippyswife

I got nappies as a substitute for aptamil once."

Love this! "No eating for you baby but wee and poo as much as you fancy"

Also love quiche instead of eggs. Other egg - based recipes are also available!

BeyondTheWall · 09/08/2015 11:35

Massively outing, but we recently had a hand towel substituted for a hand trowel. That one was good enough to get dh quoted on Watchdog Grin

Asda are usually okay though, you only get charged for what you ordered and they always sub 'up'. Plus the option to send back any that you dont like I have had no substitutions sent for toilet roll though Confused

Ps, my kids love ground flax muffins!

Redglitter · 09/08/2015 11:41

I've had some great subs from Asda replacements costing more than the original.

The only one that threw me was the giant box of Maltesers I got in place of tiger rolls. Couldn't see any connection there but needless to say I kept them Smile
