About Angel perfume?

Surely there are others who agree this is what hell will smell like.

I am a perfume-lover and can usually tolerate all the strong ones - Guerlain, Calvin Klein etc. but there is something about this perfume that makes me feel ill. I can smell it a mile-off.

A woman in my office wears it. She is lovely, but I can't stand to be near her, or be in a room she has been in.
I know I am being unreasonable really, but do people really think this smells nice?

If you think Angel is bad, you should try Thierry Mugler Womanity. It smells like the rotten barnacled crotch of an unwashed mermaid. (If mermaids had crotches). I actually retched.

Welshmaenad · 02/08/2015 21:12

I'm am currently wearing Womanity. I definitely do not smell like the crotch of a mermaid Grin

I worked with someone who drenched herself in Aromatics Elixir. Foul, foul smell. Like a badger's arsehole rotting from the inside out...or something.

Love Shalimar though. The parfum is abso divine. EDT more sharply citrussy because of the begamot top notes. I find I usually wear the EDP as middle ground.

Welshmaenad · 02/08/2015 21:26

I used to work with someone who really really objected to me wearing Eau Dynamisante, which to me is the lightest most inoffensive summer scent imaginable.

Nightboattocairo · 02/08/2015 21:35

I think aromatics is a beautiful scent, and I hate strong perfumes. How can anyone object to eau dynamisante? Is it because it evokes unhappy memories, I wonder? For me it's a holiday in Cornwall with my first boyfriend, Ahhh, young love.

Welshmaenad · 02/08/2015 21:41

I don't know! It was a bloke. Had he approached me and politely explained it made his nose itch or whatever I'd have happily swapped to something else.

What he actually did was report me to the manager of our (very male dominated) work environment saying I stank, and I was pulled into a disciplinary meeting because they thought I had personal hygiene issues. Once we established it was actually my perfume that was bothering him I was incandescent.

So I bought the matching body lotion. Grin

I dislike any perfume by Thierry Mugler or Dolce & Gabbana. Angel I dislike the most.
I haven't bought perfume in ages as can't find any I really like.
Ordered online lots of tiny samples of oils (they call them imps' ears)from a place called Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.
Like them better than perfume

thenumberseven · 02/08/2015 22:22

welsh your colleague sounds like a very silly man going behind your back without discussing with you first.
Grin at matching body lotion

thenumberseven · 02/08/2015 22:28

The Black Phoenix page. Have not visited it or bought anything in ages but I do like most of what I got

Happy36 · 02/08/2015 23:13

Eau Dynamisante is a pretty light fragrance. Maybe the colleague (who I agree acted unreasonably) had a very strong sense of smell.

BocaDeTrucha · 02/08/2015 23:49

I remember scrubbing my wrists with a nail brush until they were red raw to get rid of Angel which I'd tried in a shop as it gave me migraine. Disgusting smell.

Neednewflowers · 03/08/2015 09:31

I've never smelt it!

Is it like Poison? Now that is horrible.

thebestfurchinchilla · 03/08/2015 09:43

Smells like chocolate to me. Now I love chocolate but i don't want to smell of it!

thebestfurchinchilla · 03/08/2015 09:45

LUUURRRRVVE Eau Dynamisante! Fresh and lemony and gorgeous!

RonaldMcDonald · 03/08/2015 09:47

It is always a sheep dip in Angel or it is incredibly strong.
My aunt wears it and we can tell if she has visited by grandmother by her vapour trail ( this is true )

TiedUpWithString · 03/08/2015 09:51

I am not a fan of Angel. My sister bought it for me and I felt like a walking ball of candyfloss. I don't know how people who wear it do not attract wasps.

Debinaboat · 03/08/2015 09:53

Angel smell like an old ashtray to me .undertones of nicotine .

VacantExpression · 03/08/2015 10:11

So.. what perfumes are good? I've never found one that I've thought "this is it!" and my birthday next month..

I want to smell nice and clean, not heavy.

Neednewflowers · 03/08/2015 10:16

Miller Harris - Fleur Oriental, Vacant.
I get stopped all the time with people mostly men telling me I smell lovely.

Nightboattocairo · 03/08/2015 10:22

The one perfume I getstopped while wearing is Aqua de Parma. I could eat my arm off smelling it!

Welshmaenad · 03/08/2015 10:38

Ones that I wear on a regular basis:

Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue
Marc Jacobs Daisy
Katy Perry Killer Queen (surprisingly nice!)
Versace Crystal Noir
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir
Ghost Deep Night
Next Just Pink
M&S Autograph Blush
Thierry Mugler Womanity
Versace Woman

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/08/2015 10:42

Vacant - anything from Penhaligons?

VacantExpression · 03/08/2015 10:44

Wow that's quite a list to go out and try- thank you!

OnlyLovers · 03/08/2015 10:46

I think it smells of cheap chocolate, but not anything worse. It reminds me of the mid-90s when for some reason it was huge among people I knew.

A colleague of mine always wore something that made her permanently smell as though she'd had a massive tuna sandwich with extra onion for lunch and spilled most of it down herself.

She retired recently. Thank God.

I tend not to go for big brands but I am fond of Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, although it's a bit tarty. Grin

thebestfurchinchilla · 03/08/2015 13:38

nightboat Which one? Aren't there a few?
