About Angel perfume?

Surely there are others who agree this is what hell will smell like.

I am a perfume-lover and can usually tolerate all the strong ones - Guerlain, Calvin Klein etc. but there is something about this perfume that makes me feel ill. I can smell it a mile-off.

A woman in my office wears it. She is lovely, but I can't stand to be near her, or be in a room she has been in.
I know I am being unreasonable really, but do people really think this smells nice?

I hate the smell. I can't work out whether it's just really overpowering, or the women that wear it wear too much. There seems to be no middle ground with it, it's like a perfume-y fishwife that shouts in your face.

goodbyespeech · 02/08/2015 06:04

I had Angel as a present but never liked it. I feel sick just imagining it.

I told mil once she smelt lovely. She bought me the perfume for Christmas. It was Shalimar. It was so awful on me I couldn't wear it.

Another one mentioned by a pp which was horrible even though I wanted to like it was Dior Addict. I had a huge bottle but hated the smell on myself.

I quite like those 80s perfumes like Rive Gauche and White linen and Miss Dior though. Maybe not Loulou.

Mygardenistoobig · 02/08/2015 06:21

I like angel but don't like alien.

I don't like any Dior perfume.

Love most of Giorgio Armani perfumes.

TheCatsMother99 · 02/08/2015 09:38

Makes me feel sick too.

Nightboattocairo · 02/08/2015 09:41

It's the only perfume that can make me feel nauseous through thought alone. Hate it.

BumgrapesofWrath · 02/08/2015 09:49

I really hate it too, but thought I was the only one who thinks so as it seems so popular! Glad to see so many other Angel haters

SoupDragon · 02/08/2015 09:54

I once sprayed a tester shot of Angel on me whilst out shopping. Within about 15 minutes I had a horrendous headache and could not get rid of the smell from my wrist.

On the rare occasions I use perfume, I use a Ghost one.

VagelinaJolie · 02/08/2015 09:56

When it came out I thought I would love it, in the midst of a vanilla obsession. I sprayed it on and spent the rest of the day trying to wash it off, Dh asked wtf the smell was and my bfing son wouldn't come to me (well he did eventually, but his little nose wrinkled).
Poison actually made me puke.

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/08/2015 09:56

I don't even know what it smells like.

It's the name, 'Angel'. I assumed it was aimed at teens.

MamaLazarou · 02/08/2015 10:01

I love the smell of Angel, though I don't wear it myself. It smells all warm and chocolatey.

There was a short-lived trend about 10 years ago for a perfume that absolutely honked of filthy trousers. No idea what it was called and haven't smelt it for a while. It was like fig gone wrong. One of those perfumes that you actually can't believe is supposed to smell nice.

shins · 02/08/2015 11:32

I once had a summer job in a hospital morgue. Angel actually smells like formaldehyde to me, there's a choking deathlike note underneath the carpet cleaner/cheap car air freshener/melted sweets in your handbag notes. It's fucking rank.

Behooven · 02/08/2015 11:56

Gosh, Angel inspires some bile!
Don't think I agree with the 'old woman' tag, but I don't like ageist stereotypes in anything, perfume is personal preference regardless of age Hmm
The girls in my office, and yes they are girls, wear Angel and it really suits them, that's one of the reasons I bought it. I like it on me too, I wear it quite often. and will continue to do so

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/08/2015 12:40

I agree , steff your post is really offensive.

YANAgurl1973 · 02/08/2015 12:45

There's a summer perfume called ck in2u which gives me awful headache,so had to give it away. Never tried angel or alien so might have a little sniff tomorrow. Loved poison in the 80s but couldn't wear it now. Sad to hear my signature perfume "obsession" is one of the offensive ones mentioned here :(

SoupDragon · 02/08/2015 12:47

The girls in my office, and yes they are girls

Really? They aren't adult women then...?

Nightboattocairo · 02/08/2015 12:47

doesn't offend me. Quite apt.

squoosh · 02/08/2015 12:51

Obsession is very musky but it doesn't offend me. It does remind me of the 90s though, a friend of mine used to drench herself in it.

Angel is the only perfume that makes me actually recoil.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/08/2015 13:22

Obsession is one of the migraine inducing ones for me. Not quite as bad as Poison, but close. My all time most hated fragrance (apart from DM's Rive Gauche) was Georgio Beverly Hills.

Happy36 · 02/08/2015 14:29

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes Yes, Giorgio Beverley Hills has an incredibly sweet smell; it reminds me of those perfumes we used to get with toy dolls or toy vanity kits when we were little girls in the 1980s (you know, the ones with the peel-off Tinkerbell nail varnish). I can´t imagine anyone over the age of 7 wanting to smell like that.

I love the Kenzo perfumes, "L´Eau" and "Flower", both quite light.

Maybe people who smell strongly of a certain perfume are using Eau de Parfum instead of the cheaper Eau de Toilette? Or layering scent by using the shower gel, body lotion, hand cream of the same fragrance too?

DameDoom · 02/08/2015 14:38

I worked in the big green store when they did the UK launch of Angel. It made me physically ill as the concession I worked on at the time was slap, bang next to the Angel stand. It actually gave me a bad stomach; I nearly got fired for spending too long on the bog due to Mugler-based squits.
My aunt used to wear Poison and as she had once been on a booze cruise to Calais, liked to Frenchify it further by calling it Poisson.

OttiliaVonBCup · 02/08/2015 14:50

Funnily enough I did love Poison even though Angel gives me the rage.

I still have a bottle somewhere in the deepest drawer of my dressing table.

OttiliaVonBCup · 02/08/2015 14:53

The old lady smell...
I remember the days when old lady smell was something Guerlain or Yardley Violets.

Now it's Angel. I'm getting old.

bluebeanie · 02/08/2015 15:36

I find it too strong. Alien is worse. I gag everytime I smell d&g the one. Stated during 1st pregnancy. Still do. Its everywhere

bottleofbeer · 02/08/2015 15:53

Bleurgh, it's horrible. Smells of chocolate and unwashed bodies. Headache inducing. JPG is the same.

Jen1610 · 02/08/2015 16:02

I worked in cosmetics for years and I literally detest it and Alien and everyone in the whole cosmetics hall did.
