About Angel perfume?

Surely there are others who agree this is what hell will smell like.

I am a perfume-lover and can usually tolerate all the strong ones - Guerlain, Calvin Klein etc. but there is something about this perfume that makes me feel ill. I can smell it a mile-off.

A woman in my office wears it. She is lovely, but I can't stand to be near her, or be in a room she has been in.
I know I am being unreasonable really, but do people really think this smells nice?

I've worn femme (Rochas) on and off for years.
I think it is a beautiful smell, however it has a slight smell of body odour. anon
I overlook that. Wink
Makes me realise how differently we all interpret smells.
My sister wears Angel, It really suits her. It just smells acutely sweet!

LoadsaBlusher · 01/08/2015 16:04

I love Angel perfume.
It is my perfume of choice for nights out but like previous posters I wear a fresh scent during the day like DKNY or Hugo Boss.

Happy36 · 01/08/2015 16:07

Yes, you´re right spicy; it´s a very sweet smell. I think maybe it appeals more (or designed to appeal more) to younger people, because it´s so sweet? Perhaps that´s why Wally has gone off it.

Whoever mentioned Flowerbomb; that perfume is lovely! But too strong for me to wear every day.

Does anyone else find mosquitos love to devour you when you´re wearing perfume? For this reason I tend to avoid it in summer, especially at night, which is a shame for whoever has to be near me as I might be a bit sweaty.

steff13 · 01/08/2015 16:09

My SIL wears it, and it stinks to high heaven.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 01/08/2015 16:10

What you trying to say Happy huh?

DidgeDoolittle · 01/08/2015 16:12

I absolutely loathe it. It's not just that it's a heavy perfume, I like heavy perfumes, it's that it smells so revolting. I worked with someone who wore it. She always smelt unwashed and generally vile. Sort of fishy fanny and bum hole combo. The manager had to ask her to stop wearing it as so many people complained the smell made them feel sick.

anonacfr · 01/08/2015 16:16

Goshthatsspicy Blush I didn't realise anyone but my sister had actually worn Femme.

Re Angel I agree with others that the problem is not that it is a strong scent (I like Opium and I love Shalimar) but that it just smells awful.

I remember reading that Mugler had designed it to smell of sex and chocolate. Hmm

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 16:22

Didge - YY I agree ShockGrin urghh!

WorraLiberty · 01/08/2015 16:24

I don't know what Angle smells like. I'm curious now and must find out Grin

I bought a bottle of Dior Addict the other day and it's gorgeous.

WorraLiberty · 01/08/2015 16:25

Angle...not 'Angle' Blush

Makes it sound like a cheap copy...

WorraLiberty · 01/08/2015 16:25

Oh FFS I meant 'Angel'!!

Fabulassie · 01/08/2015 16:28

Angel is the only perfume I've had to go wash off. I tried it in a department store, had a sniff and didn't like it. Within five minutes I was running to the ladies to wash my wrists.

I love perfume and I have a preference for strong orientals. Some perfumes bore me or don't thrill me but I don't think I've ever smelled anything actively offensive like Angel.

I'm not sure how it may smell on other people. I don't think I've ever noticed it on anyone else. One perfume I sort of like the smell of in theory I would never wear: Clinique Aromatics Elixer. It's just so bizarrely strong.

ladyrosy · 01/08/2015 16:53

This thread lists nearly every awful heavy perfume my mum loves. She is a big believer in "layering" scent, buying and wearing every product available in the range. She has an almost visible fog around her that's so strong, you can practically chew it.

Surprised no one has mentioned Karma perfume from Lush. Smells of patchouli and sweaty bum. Hate it.

CoogerAndDark · 01/08/2015 17:04

Clinique Aromatics would be lovely if they could just turn the volume down on it a bit.

I wear Alien, but spray a tiny bit into the air in front of me, wait a second then walk into it. It's unbearably strong if I spray it directly on.

Petridish · 01/08/2015 17:08

I hate it too, ever since I was given a sample some years back. Ugh.

anonacfr · 01/08/2015 17:08

Patchouli and sweaty bum. Lovely. Grin

I didn't even know Lush made perfumes. I must admit I'm curious. Will have to hunt down a Lush and have a sniff.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 01/08/2015 17:09

There is a woman in my office who used to wear it until the day she did not walk fast enough to avoid witnessing me actually vomiting in the bin.

I couldn't stop being sick to the point that I was actually on my knees with my whole body going very weird indeed, she was very kindly trying to help me (had HG at the time) thank fully she won't wear it anymore.

We laugh about it now but she says I'm not the only one it makes ill

anonacfr · 01/08/2015 17:10

Tresor de Lancôme is another painful perfume. It's so sweet. And the Jean Paul Gaultier one in the bustier bottle. It's also super strong.

A friend of mine bought it years ago and use to bathe in it. Or at least it smelt that way. Yuk.

ouryve · 01/08/2015 17:13

It gives me a stonking headache.

Remember when Poison was new in the 80s? That was even worse and my mum loved it!

Carmichaelangelo · 01/08/2015 17:21

Has anyone mentioned Womanity yet? Iwore Alien, Angel and finally Womanity for most of my forties before abruptly going off all of them. Still love Poison though, although not the original one which is too toilet duck for me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 17:24

Iirc it's Angel that causes asthmatics serious issues as it's so strong.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 17:25

POISON not Angel.

TheWernethWife · 01/08/2015 17:53

My favourite perfumes are by Guerlain but I have worn Angel as well, I think it smells lovely but you have to have a light touch on the atomiser

rubybleu · 01/08/2015 18:07

Angel smells sickly. I generally assume the wearer has stagnated at the sophistication level of a 16-yo girl as I don't know anyone who wore it past about 21, it's a very "young" perfume.

The only perfume I feel really sick around is Chanel No. 5 and Chance - not sure why but they make my temples throb.

squoosh · 01/08/2015 18:11

Angel is what I imagine the devil's bum hole would smell like if it was massaged generously with candy floss and vanilla essence.

Why do Angel wearers insist on wearing quite so much of the vile stench? a less liberal spraying would be most appreciated.
