About Angel perfume?

Surely there are others who agree this is what hell will smell like.

I am a perfume-lover and can usually tolerate all the strong ones - Guerlain, Calvin Klein etc. but there is something about this perfume that makes me feel ill. I can smell it a mile-off.

A woman in my office wears it. She is lovely, but I can't stand to be near her, or be in a room she has been in.
I know I am being unreasonable really, but do people really think this smells nice?

I'm currently wearing Vivienne Westwood, "Boudoir", I love it but go very gently on it as it's strong. Also D&G Red, the proper one, absolutely divine.

Angel is not on my scent list, don't like it at all.

BlueMoonRoses · 01/08/2015 18:18

Yup. Awful:

Angel
Chanel entire range
Amarige
Poison
Gucci Rush
Tresor

Bleeeeeeeeeee.

pennylane2015 · 01/08/2015 18:21

It's awful. My mother douses herself in it, then cuddles the baby and I can smell it off him all day. I haven't the heart to tell her how overpowering and sickly sweet it is!

Happy36 · 01/08/2015 18:23

Sorry, Wally, I meant that you are chic and sophisticated and have grown out of teenage trends (IN A GOOD WAY). :D

rubybleu Agree with you about Chanel No. 5. But I quite like Chance.

anonacfr Yes definitely about the JP Gaultier one; I find it´s a favourite with smokers who douse themselves in it and then come out smelling of old smoke mixed with the super strong perfume.

Can´t believe no one´s mentioned "Miss Dior" yet. It actually smells of wee. My sister and I are very immature and upon entering a department store or duty free shop together will often run to the Dior perfume counter and race to spray it onto each other.

FreudiansSlipper · 01/08/2015 18:27

It's horrible gives me a headache

sweetkitty · 01/08/2015 18:34

Why do smokers insist on showering themselves in strong perfume, they just stink of perfume and stale fags, my MIL used to do this would make me wretch.

AmyLouKin · 01/08/2015 19:04

Ah, sweetkitty couldn't agree more! I used to work with a lady who would smoke (quite a lot by the smell of it) and then spray on the sweetest of perfumes, no idea what it was but it reminded me of something very flowery mixed with Parma Violets and Refresher sweets! It was the vilest mixture and made me want to retch! I used to hold my breath when she walked past. Lol.
Oh and I now work with a rather dapper chap in his 40's who insists on putting patchouli oil in his hair during the working day! Incidentally he's also a smoker! Not a nice combination.
Have always been a bit sensitive to sweet smells but since finding out I'm pregnant, I seem to be even worse!
My mum wears Karma perfume and while it wouldn't suit me, I think it smells rather nice on her. I can see why some might not like it, specially if they tend towards lighter flowery scents.

Angel perfume is one of my migraine triggers.

Debbiediddallas · 01/08/2015 19:11

Once sprayed it in duty free before a long haul flight.
Felt sick for hours and DH swopped his seat to escape me .

Albaba · 01/08/2015 19:15

I am usually quite easy going and would wear most perfumes. My dh bought me Angel for my birthday last year. I really don't like it. I wore it once on a night out and I could still smell it really strongly on myself the next day. It's so strong that it gives me a sore head.

My mil trying to be well meaning bought me Angel this year for my birthday and it was not only Angel but an Angel set! Anything but Angel I would have been grateful for. It just went straight in to a cupboard and didn't even open it as I know it is expensive but vile.

Mermaid36 · 01/08/2015 19:19

Sorry people! I wear Angel as my evening/going out scent - you do only really need one squirter of it though! No need for more than that.

I wear Hugo Boss Red Woman during the day :-)

achieve6 · 01/08/2015 19:23

I don't dislike Angel but I have asthma so perfume can irritate that really fast.

What I found with Angel is that even if the wearer puts on a tiny dab, it is incredibly pungent.

OP, are you going to say something?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 01/08/2015 19:26

Slug Angel perfume is one of my migraine triggers

See, I have suffered with migraines for about 43 years, and I wear Angel, which doesn't trigger it. Fascinating isn't it - we are all just so very, very different.

DS buys it for me when I run out, as he loves the smell and always says 'Ooh Mum, you smell lovely'. Get lots of compliments from other people when I do wear it, so obviously I just have compatible skin. Grin

Whitewhine · 01/08/2015 19:27

Angel is also headache inducing with me. As is Eden and most other cacharel perfumes.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/08/2015 19:37

To be honest, I think all strong perfumes should be avoided when you're in places where people can't get away from you such as restaurants, offices, cars, planes, cinemas, so many people find them headache-inducing. My mum used to drench herself in Rive Gauche and get in the car with us, it was horrific. I saw some in a shop a while ago and had a little spray for old time's sake, nearly threw up on the spot.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 01/08/2015 19:42

Well, Rive Gauche genuinely is awful. I'd vomit with that one myself . . .

Also, my lovely boss bought me YSL Paris once - Yuck, yuck, yuck. Not strong, but so sickly sweet, I really hated it!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 19:51

Oh I love Rive GaucheGrin

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 01/08/2015 21:36

Obsession, Jean Paul Gautier, poison, samsara eau de parsnips as my dad calls it, red door, Lou Lou, Eden......all would make me want to vomit on my own feet, as well as Angel.
I loved Champs Élysées by Guerlain and I'm gutted they've stopped making it. Hmm

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 21:48

Perfume parlour do a copy of it, worth a try as everything else I've bought from them is spot on.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 21:52

I keep trying to post but it keeps crashingHmm Perfume Parlour do an oil of it Blue worth a try, I buy a lot of oils from them and they're spot on usually.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 21:52

Oh it did postHmm

anonacfr · 01/08/2015 21:53

Funny I used to love both Paris and Champs Élysées. I now find them so sickly sweet.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 01/08/2015 21:55

God yes. Makes me physically recoil from people who wear it.

WoahBodyforrrrm · 01/08/2015 22:01

mermaid you're my perfume twin! I have worn angel since I was 16 (28 now) but only as my evening fragrance now and one small spritz on my neck which I rub my wrists against. I love it but completely understand how some people would find it over whelming. My day scent is Hugo Boss deep red.

Funnily enough, I've tried lots of other perfumes over the years and the only one I ever get complimented on, is Angel.

Devora · 01/08/2015 22:10

It makes me feel ill from 50 paces.
