So fed up so far DC have been off almost 5 weeks we've had about 2 days of no rain, we've missed
Picnics in the park with our friends
Nice day trips
Days to the beach making sandcastle a
Riding bikes
Getting the paddling pool out
Playing in the garden the grass is a pile of squelchy mud
Wearing summer clothes from our holiday
Drying washings on the line
Not putting the heating on
Going out means wellies and waterproofs

Honesty it has been dire

We were on holiday last week in East Lothian. Not an hour went by without at least four types of weather. The highest temperature was 16degrees.

Back in the balmy SE.

Noggie · 01/08/2015 21:52

I agree! I convinced myself that if wasn't that bad for the first few weeks of summer holidays but have spent the last couple if weeks feeling more and more fed up! Fleeces on, heating on, tumble drier being used.... Not good!!!

EddieStobbart · 04/08/2015 00:07

insanity just go to the Cocoabean factory every time it rains - so that'll be every single day...
As long as you have good space for drying then you'll have a fab time even if it pisses it down all the time.
Actually, maybe I shouldn't be complaining about the 12 degrees in Edinburgh last week. Residents of Stornoway and Kirkwall must have been thinking "whatever" for ever without long threads about it!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/08/2015 00:36

it will perk up in scotland in a bit... right about the time they go back to school.

mrsg1888 · 04/08/2015 00:52

Freezing and pissing with rain all day most days...... Then clammy as fuck at night Confused I want to greet

TheCatsFlaps · 04/08/2015 00:59

I read about a recommendation to give us all vitamin D tablets to compensate for the lack of sunshine. Given my very Nordic colouring (thanks great gran), I'dneed a fucking transfusion 24x7 to last me this bastard summer.

ThisisMrsNicolaHicklin · 04/08/2015 10:16

I hate the dark, Sweet. I'll be on this thread in October, whinging like a pro.

florentina1 · 04/08/2015 10:58

Anybody on here from Bara. We are going in late August, could do with some help about what clothes to pack.

swisscheesetony · 04/08/2015 12:42

Not on bara but am in islands. Leave your spaghetti floaty sundresses at home. Fleeces and a waterproof mac - it's not cold per se but if you get lucky you might consider unzipping your fleece!

Lots of hair bands unless you like eating your hair and combing out knots.

Today it's dry and sunny but we've got 30mph winds - a glorious "drying" day.

The weather report for islands changes hourly and if bara is anything like my island it's different valley to valley.

fourtothedozen · 04/08/2015 13:00

Very depressing. Not warm or dry enough for even a BBQ in the garden.

I am looking forward to the winter weather. At least we don't get our hopes up.

Iggi999 · 04/08/2015 13:04

I was on a Scottish beach yesterday in the sunshine Sad Now it's back to normal today.

florentina1 · 04/08/2015 13:23

Thanks for the heads up. We are coming from London, which is a bit sticky at the mo. A few Scottish gales might liven us up.

MrsJorahMormont · 04/08/2015 14:02

YANBU Sad We had the heating on a couple of evenings last week Angry

Iggi999 · 04/08/2015 16:19

I have absolutely no idea how to fill the rest of the day, chucking children in the garden (or walks in park etc) being the preferred option. Already been to softplay today. Bad weather is expensive!

BlueThursday · 04/08/2015 16:36

Got a load of towels dried outside today

(Grasping as straws icon)

AugustHasToBeBetter · 04/08/2015 16:44

Straw grasping:

I wore a t shirt yesterday (but did get goose pimples!)

Jen1610 · 04/08/2015 17:40

I'm in Scotland too and tbh iv been pretty happy with the weather. The first week of they had was brilliant. Swimming pool out etc. But apart from that we have only had a few days where it's poured the whole day. The rest have had fairly bright spells and some rainy intervals (feel like a weather reporter ha) and we have had some grey days where I thought it would pour down but it didn't. like today. And a lot of days where it'd been grey to start then got really hot and sunny like yesterday.

I'm the south west of Scotland. Also my kids have had their summer clothes on a lot. We personally, have had worse summers.

prettybird · 04/08/2015 19:06

YANBU.

Awful, awful weather. We've not had a barbecue all summer - the good Easter Weekend we were away (helping a friend clear his dad's house even though it was my birthday Hmm)

The garden is a nightmare - as my neighbour says, it's like spring weeding, just pulling weeds out of sodden earth. The sticky willie is rampant.

The raspberries are fully a month (plus) behind. I had a Facebook Timehop reminder from 3 years ago which popped a month ago where I'd just made a double batch of raspberry jam from the garden. I've only just managed to pick a kilo from the garden - enough to make one batch.

I only changed the summer duvet on 1 July. There have been times in the last fortnight where I've seriously considered putting the winter duvet back on Shock - as it is, we've had to pull up the throw to add to its warmth Hmm.

I've resisted putting the heating back on but there have been times I've been tempted. The nice big Victorian rooms stay lovely and cool in the heat of the summer - but that assumes some ambient heat in the first place! Angry As it is, I've resorted to my thick Icelandic cardigan and a wool scarf on top of a thin cashmere jumper (usually ideal for "cool" summer days) and a pashmina over my legs. I'm turning in to an old woman Blush

Ds goes back to school on Thursday (Glasgow). Thank goodness we had a week in Greece as that's the only real sun and heat we've had.

Wink
Sothisishowitfeels · 04/08/2015 19:50

We are in north west England we had a few good days but mostly we have had rain and dull cloud.

I hope this doesn't mean a bad winter because I will have a newborn doing three school runs a day...

EddieStobbart · 04/08/2015 20:25

A little treat for you all...

Jen, where in the SW are you? My DM's on the Solway coast and despairing of the rain. So typical of Scotland to have completely different weather just down the road!

Prettybird, "the sticky willie is rampant" sounds like a classic mumsnet line!

iamdivergent · 04/08/2015 20:41

YANBU it's horrible! Sad

Jen1610 · 04/08/2015 20:55

Ayrshire Eddie Stobbart. Today's been grey but not rained and not cold. Looked like it would pour down all day.

Saturday we were at a bbq that started at four. between 2 and 3 it poured down then the sun was splitting the sky the rest of the day.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 04/08/2015 20:57

I'm a native southerner holidaying in the Northern Lakes and it's very soggy here so you have my sympathies. I'd love to holiday in Scotland but the inclement weather does put me off.

The temperature difference between here and the south coast really has taken me by surprise. We climbed Skiddaw in shorts yesterday (rather foolishly) but needed woolly hats and gloves at the top!

My weather app still defaults to my hometown and I get all excited at the warmth and dry weather then look out the window at the rain.....

AmIthatsummery · 04/08/2015 21:16

I'm a generally upbeat person but I just want to cry

This is seriously getting me down. Even yesterday, with a wee bit of sunshine it was still damp.

This is unprecedented. Who do I complain to?
