So fed up so far DC have been off almost 5 weeks we've had about 2 days of no rain, we've missed
Picnics in the park with our friends
Nice day trips
Days to the beach making sandcastle a
Riding bikes
Getting the paddling pool out
Playing in the garden the grass is a pile of squelchy mud
Wearing summer clothes from our holiday
Drying washings on the line
Not putting the heating on
Going out means wellies and waterproofs

Honesty it has been dire

It's been such a shame this year, spent an absolute fortune entertaining the weans with various indoor activities Hmm Off to Fort William tomorrow to spend the week on a farm and just know the weathers going to be worse there than it is here (west coast). Still be swarming with midges no doubt tho!

Mrsjayy · 31/07/2015 23:22

Aye im sure there was a taps aff thread a while back Grin I had salad for dinner a couple of nights

TTWK · 31/07/2015 23:25

How can the weather be that different between Scotland and London? I ignorantly thought the whole of the UK was getting great weather this summer.

That'll probably be why they use a map of Britain on the weather forecast. Otherwise they wouldn't have to bother, they'd just say "tomorrow will be nice."

Also, if you look at the numbers and symbols on the map, you might sometimes notice that there's a big yellow round sticker over London with a number 30, and white dots over Wick with the number -6.

But I'm no expert.

Likeaninjanow · 31/07/2015 23:28

Utter pish.

Likeaninjanow · 31/07/2015 23:28

The weather - not this thread!

Jellybean83 · 31/07/2015 23:37

It's utterly dire! I was hoping to take DS and his two friends to the safari park tomorrow but since the weather is forecast heavy rain it looks like another sodden soft playplace!

Cloudhowe63 · 31/07/2015 23:37

sweetkittyGrin. At least we've been spared the bluey-white expanses and sunburnt bits that you're tempted to slap

Dowser · 31/07/2015 23:38

It's just so depressing.

I know! I know! We shouldn't let it but so many things get ruined ( outdoor events) with this awful weather!

Sympathies to Scottish Mumsnetters. It hasn't been great in Yorkshire either.

Just watching BBC weather now and it's shit just about everywhere except the South East. Predictably she's going on about the nice weather in London.

Those of you in London next time you watch the weather, have a look at the big blue splodge and isobars over Scotland. That means cold, windy and pissing it down.

I will argue to the death that overall, living in the north, especially yorkshire is much better than London and the South east, but one thing I will give you is that your weather is significantly better.

swisscheesetony · 01/08/2015 07:04

Tomorrow is set to be glorious for the regatta - today I'm trying to get 3 loads of laundry dry in this pish.

Last week I was so hot under my 15 tog duvet with a hot water bottle than I stuck an ankle out! Shock

I have got a bit stabby every time there's been a thread complaining about the cold and half of the smug warm posters incredulously ask "where are you?!".

I have been stubbornly wearing all of my summer dresses... With leggings underneath!

It's rubbish because the one thing that makes up for the 5-second long days in winter is soaking up the sun during the long summer days. But it's been far too dreich to go for those warm 9pm walks of lore...

GirlsTimesThree · 01/08/2015 07:37

If you do decide to saw Scotland off from England, please can you make Northumberland part of Scotland? It's shite here too. Winter duvet, electric blanket and central heating on.
Heading south next weekend, then to Europe the following week. Don't think I'll bother coming back either.

Pileofstuffatthebottomofthesta · 01/08/2015 07:44

On the plus side think of how much money we're pouring into the economy by visiting all the costly indoor attractions rather than picnics in the park. The soft plays and cinemas must be raking it in the year!

I'm kind of used to the weather here now but this year is exceptionally shite and actually really quite depressing.

asmallandnoisymonkey · 01/08/2015 08:37

I'm in North Lanarkshire and I can confirm that it feels like it's rained non-stop for about 3 weeks!

It hasn't obviously but the garden is a swamp and the heating has been on for ages. We've had a couple of sunny ish days recently though hopeful

The80sweregreat · 01/08/2015 08:48

Had a friend who lived close to Edinburgh for 5 years ( a long time ago admittedly) She hated the weather too, being of carribean descent didnt help!

I must admit, i hate it too hot / humid down here (south ) had a hot spell the other week and for me it was awful, but to get what your having must be depressing just now. Can you book a weekend away somewhere warm?
Any sign it will cheer up? Dh is going to the isle of skye on his motorbike end of august, he will need the jumpers and waterproofs!

sweetkitty · 01/08/2015 10:05

So after torrential rain overnight we have sunshine this morning leading us into a false sense of security you just know it's going to rain later, did you Scottish weather I'm not going to risk the washing tumble drier it is HmmHmmHmm

I was away somewhere warm but it seems like a distant memory now. 33 degrees daily Grin

The80sweregreat · 01/08/2015 10:16

Is it normally this bad, was last year better? Just curious. Had a week away to a place 10 miles from Stirling in 1995. It was early july, freezing cold and rain.
Odd bright day, between the rain. Loved scotland, but the weather put me off going again.
However, went to Cornwall august 2008 and terrible weather there too.
One nice day, the day we got there.
Was better the week after we got home
I think its me.

tilliebob · 01/08/2015 10:22

Half an hour ago it was pissing down and I had to switch on the lights.

Now the sun is out and it's shining fit to burst.

Let's see if it's hailstones in the next half hour Confused

Tinandgonic · 01/08/2015 10:41

I'm in south Lanarkshire and it has been MISERABLE.

ClimbingPenguin · 01/08/2015 10:44

We've just got back from a week near Aviemore. Always been lucky before (but gone in June). Wasn't horrendous but could have been a lot nicer. Had a day and a half of clear Munros though.

AmIthatsummery · 01/08/2015 10:49

I'm in a quandry now. Off to Glasgow to stay the night, night out.

What to wear?

I'm going to have to take a summer dress AND jeans and a top and jacket.

TheMaw · 01/08/2015 10:50

Yep, it's been totally shit. We've not even taken our garden furniture out the shed this year, not had one day to use it. I had so many lovely plans for DS this summer too. I can cope with rain, but rain + cold + wind is just fucking misery making.

allypally999 · 01/08/2015 10:59

How can the weather be that different between Scotland and London? I ignorantly thought the whole of the UK was getting great weather this summer

Sorry but that does sound smug though I see you did apologise. We can see the sun coming out on the weather map in the South so how do they not notice us freezing up here in our year long winter?

The big outdoor heater is a good idea but I vote we get out all the tugs and tow us upside down for a few years and let Southerners find out for themselves. Mind the poor people of Shetland and Orkney won't know what hit them! Grin

Athenaviolet · 01/08/2015 11:01

I've only had 3 day's wear out of my sandals.

Have spent a fortune on indoor entertainment for DCs.

Paddling pool still in box.

Same with tent.

No drives/walks up the hills.

Rain jacket & boots on every day, just in case.

DCs bored and having way too much screen time.

No BBQ.

No meals al fresco.

No ice lollies or iced drinks.

Cat's not happy either.
