So fed up so far DC have been off almost 5 weeks we've had about 2 days of no rain, we've missed
Picnics in the park with our friends
Nice day trips
Days to the beach making sandcastle a
Riding bikes
Getting the paddling pool out
Playing in the garden the grass is a pile of squelchy mud
Wearing summer clothes from our holiday
Drying washings on the line
Not putting the heating on
Going out means wellies and waterproofs

Honesty it has been dire

I had the heating on yesterday. 31st of July!

OOAOML · 01/08/2015 11:15

are people really putting heating on and wearing winter coats in Princes St gardens? Yes the weather is a bit shit but Edinburgh is not all that cold. Disclaimer: we live in a shitty tenement flat with no garden so I don't have a paddling pool/ washing line to miss. No central heating either but definitely not going to put the gas fire on (generally try and tough that one out till October/November).

Piffpaffpoff · 01/08/2015 11:17

It's utter pish. We went camping at the beginning of June and came home two days early because it was averaging 9c during the day and blowing a hoolie most of the time. It's not improved since then. We're usually n the beach at least one day a week during the summer and we've not been once yet this year. I had to dig out the waterproofs and wellies for them to wear to the park. It's just crap. We had planned another camping trip for next week but I don't think we'll bother. Sigh.

Piffpaffpoff · 01/08/2015 11:24

OOAOML I can't say what they are wearing in Princes St Gardens but in St Andrews yesterday a significant amount of folk were dressed like it was October. I, on the other hand, had my sandals on and no coat because there was a patch of blue sky and I was damn well going to make the most of it!
As a result, I spent a lot of time sheltering in shops from rain showers...

OOAOML · 01/08/2015 11:26

I tend to wear a light jacket with hood. No sandals as I've been a bit lax with the Flexitol and don't want to expose my hoovesWink Assume St Andrews is a bit colder than here though.

Ineedtimeoff · 01/08/2015 11:27

So who's writing to 'wee Nicola' touting the large out door heater over Falkirk?

I'll sign a petition....

ashmts · 01/08/2015 11:30

I've been wearing either a leather jacket or raincoat to work almost every day and some days should probably have had my winter coat on. That's just to walk five minutes from the car.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 01/08/2015 11:32

DD has been in Edinburgh all week ( lacrosse world championships) and says she hasn't needed her sun cream Grin.

The80sweregreat · 01/08/2015 11:40

It must be frustrating on the national weather when Carol Kirkwood etc are in their summer frocks on top of the BBC building and the map shows sunny symbols for us!
How do your local weather people tell it?

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2015 11:46

I love sean battys wee smiley face as he is presenting the day of doom he says things like its a good drying day Grin

OatcakeCravings · 01/08/2015 11:46

I am with you all, weather has been shite all summer, apart from the odd day. It's nice today in NE Scotland though, but only nice compared to what it's been like, not paddling pool nice! I've booked Spain for next year after spending the first two weeks of the holidays this year freezing and soaking in the Highlands! So different dry last year!

woowoo22 · 01/08/2015 11:50

DS has his winter boots on today Shock

BlueThursday · 01/08/2015 12:03

I'm dreading my gas bill I think I've had about a week when I've not had the heating on so far this year

DevonLass70 · 01/08/2015 12:31

It's not great down here in Devon, either. I've had the heating on too. Looks like it's about to rain any minute as well.

PumpkinPie2013 · 01/08/2015 12:39

We are in Northern England and it's not been good here either - lots of rainy and cold days.

Bought ds a sand pit at the start of summer and think he's played with it three times Sad Not even bothered with the paddling pool!

It's raining again today so we went to an indoor play place this morning and hoping to see SIL at her house this afternoon so that will be somewhere else to go.

I try to go out as much as possible with DS (20 months ) otherwise, he gets so bored and the house ends up trashed! It's hard in bad weather though!

Taytocrisps · 01/08/2015 12:42

If it's any consolation, it's pretty shitty here in Ireland too. I think there was a hot sunny spell at the end of June but it was very short lived. July has been so grey. Windy and cold and rainy. After swearing that I wasn't putting the heating on because it's 'summer' even thought DD was begging for a hot water bottle we gave up on Thursday and put it on. A lot of summer festivals have been cancelled or had a minimal attendance.

flakebaby · 01/08/2015 12:47

YANBU. Awful weather. Cold. Miserable.

Baddz · 01/08/2015 12:50

Midlands here...it's been crap.
Had a very, very hot week at the beginning of July (too hot tbh!)
No trips out, no paddling pool out, no bike rides....it's rubbish.
As pp have said, both DC having far too much screen time but my efforts to get them to read a book (shock, horror!) or play a game, or do some crafts is met with derision and scorn.
I have even taken some of my holidays clothes back...I just wont get to wear them!
DC are back at school on the 28th!
Of course, as soon as the DC go back to school there will be an Indian summer....sigh.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 01/08/2015 12:55

It's been bad, we went to a caravan park in late June and skived off the last three days of school. I'm glad we did because if we'd gone away this month it would have been a washout.

Dh is from the SE and says the weather is the worst thing about moving here. He has been here for 17 years, probably thanks only to central heating.

It is very character building though. We went on holiday to Spain in October, and my kids ran in their swimsuits to the sea. They ran past a small Spanish boy, digging in the sand in his wellies and winter coat. His Mum looked at me like this: Hmm

insanityscatching · 01/08/2015 13:12

Can I ask all you Scottish people what sort of weather should I expect in late October? We're going on our first ever holiday to Scotland and staying in Carsluith. It would be great to know what to expect and even better for ideas of places to visit whilst we are there.

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 01/08/2015 13:16

I'm far West coast so not surprised. More shocked at the amount of people out today in the city dressed in short dresses and sandals Hmm

It looks wonderful, we're staying in a farmhouse right next to the sea and bringing the dog and wellies because we will be out whatever the weather anyway. Really looking forward to it and hoping to go further North next year. We are central England so it's quite a traipse but dog and dc travel well so shouldn't be a problem.

Gatehouse is my favourite part of the world ever. According to a newspaper I was reading in Glasgow, it was snowing two days ago in parts of Scotland.
