A parking one!

We have put in a new driveway and the council have dropped the kerb outside. However, they have failed to remove the markings that there used to be a parking space there. The markings are a bit of a mess as the old markings are there alongside the guides the council have put there to show where they are moving the parking space to.

A young girl has come along, parked her car, put her headphones in and walked off in the direction of the town centre. I didn't have time to run out and stop her and the headphones meant shouting after her wouldn't have done any good.

Would I be unreasonable to request that the council send a warden out to give her a ticket?

There is no way that she could have missed that she was parking across our drive. It's large and has a big car parked on it. There were 2 parking spaces there and our drive is bang in the middle... she has parked her small Fiesta in the middle too. So right over the dropped kerb with no attempt to leave any room for access. Had it still been a parking space she would be effectively stopping another car from being able to park there. If she had parked at the beginning or end of the bay we could have still got off our driveway.

So What would you do?

Honestly I am not being smug but the question was put to me and I answered it truthfully. Even if I was 100% blocked in and could not move my car I would not be bothered because I don't use my car that much and I live near shops and a train station so I don't need my car on a daily basis. I have a car for when I need to visit my parents who live further down south.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/07/2015 22:13

But just because YOU wouldn't be bothered, and don't need your car often, doesn't mean the OP shouldn't be bothered, when she DID need her car, LilMissSunshine!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/07/2015 22:15

And you may not be being smug, but you are being incredibly insensitive, unkind and unsympathetic.

oddfodd · 29/07/2015 22:19

Okay, so it wouldn't bother you LilMiss (and names aren't randomly generated - you have to choose them) but is it really beyond your wit to understand that for some people - heck, most people who own cars - not being able to get their car out is a serious inconvenience.

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 22:20

This is AIBU OP asked and imo she is because for a one off incident she could of booked a taxi etc instead of ranting and getting stressed. No-one has to agree with me it is my opinion I don't tell anyone else here they are wrong for their opinion or swear at them or attack them personally for it.

What if OP didn't have a back story or never said it hardly think it would of generated the amount of sympathy it has. Call me what you like but at least I don't attack other people, call them names or swear at them.

FuryFowler · 29/07/2015 22:20

lilmiss has never heard of empathy

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 22:21

And yes lets be realistic its one time in how long? Hardly a daily ongoing occurrence to get so stressed about.

ladygracie · 29/07/2015 22:23

LilMiss - You are being smug. Smug and obnoxious. You have made your point multiple times. It is great that you wouldn't be bothered. Other people have stated that they would be. It doesn't prove or mean anything. The fact that the girl was given a ticket means that she must have been committing an offence - most likely parking in front of a dropped curb. The OP has said several times that the parking bays are not clear at all anyway.

Redglitter · 29/07/2015 22:23

Evans The job of finding phone numbers is left to the control room staff don't worry were not taking police off the streets to do it Hmm

Hormonal Sometimes it's as simple as checking the online phone book which has an increasing number of mobile numbers on it. Or we check our own systems to see if any number is held. We've got quite a good success rate for finding them Smile It's easier all round saves the driver a tow away fee and saves sending cops when there's something else they could be doing

whatarethose · 29/07/2015 22:33

LilMissCloudy prob has homework to do!

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 22:36

haha well least I have more manners than most on here to not personally attack someone, call them names etc. just because they have a different opinion and I can voice my opinion over and over if I like just like everyone else here can disagree with me but you don't see me calling you all names, swearing at you. Only on here would you get this.

MoiraBrown101 · 29/07/2015 22:42

"So what was the ticket given for...certainly not because its due to a dropped kerb since tickets can only be issued for the following reasons:

on yellow lines
in a permit-only zone without a clearly displayed valid permit
in a council-owned car park or on a metered space if you haven’t paid the parking charge
in a car park or on a metered space if you haven’t paid the correct amount for the time you've been parked there, or haven't clearly displayed the parking ticket
anywhere else where parking is banned, for example, on white zig-zag lines or on the pavement."

Are you fucking kidding me?? This is such total and utter bullshit. Where are you getting your information? Because it's outdated, and wrong.

In the situation the OP described, the girl could have been issued a ticket for parking across a dropped kerb or parking across 2 bays (assuming the warden thought the bays were correct) or for parking on a single yellow line within a controlled zone (assuming the removed bays have been replaced with a line, as controlled zones all have yellow lines throughout).

Parking across dropped kerbs that serve one property is strictly prohibited unless you have permission, all over the country! It may not be enforced everywhere but it's still illegal unless you have permission from the householder or are parked across a kerb that serves multiple properties. The bays looking like they are present does not negate that. In any case the OP has said the bays were not present, just a mess of markings in front of a dropped kerb.

Some people need to stop being morons.

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 22:49

Well my council expressly says if there is parking bay or controlled parking zone marking across a dropped kerb that you can park there.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/07/2015 23:00

The OP has said she could not afford a taxi, LilMissSunshine - or are you telling us you know more than the OP does about the state of her finances? Hmm

It doesn't matter that it was a one-off - she could not get out of her drive in her car to collect her child!!. She could not afford a taxi, could not walk there and back (unless, of course, you are privy to her health records and know her state of fitness better than she does, of course), and didn't have anyone else to ask.

Was she just supposed to leave her child at nursery, if the girl did not move her car in time?

Ohhhhhh - can't I keep her, if I promise to walk her and clean out her litter tray? Pleeeeease!

PointTheFinger · 29/07/2015 23:10

You're take stupidity to a whole new level, lilmisssunshine.

Can I book you for a party?

ExitPursuedByABear · 29/07/2015 23:10

My heart sank when I saw littlemiss on this thread

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 23:15

yes lets just pick on a mumsnetter shall we and you call me a troll speak for yourself your the ones calling someone else all sorts of names whereas all I have is put across my opinion and if you don't agree with it that is fine but you don't have to resort to calling me a troll or other names. There are other posters who haven't agreed with OP so why aren't you calling them out ...hypocrites. If I am troll go ahead and report me but nothing will be done because when MNHQ look into they will see I am not a troll.

Quite pathetic that if you agree with someone that you resort to childish name calling really.

MoiraBrown101 · 29/07/2015 23:25

Your opinion is factually incorrect.

AmIthatsummery · 29/07/2015 23:29

I'm glad it worked out for you OP

I can't believe some of the comments calling you spiteful, saying that it's easy to just get a taxi, police should deal with real crimes, etc. FFS

MN is an odd place sometimes.

It's happened to me and the police were more than happy to assist. After all, I believe it is an offence to block access to the highway (I think)

Therefore, following up an offence is what the police do. Some posters should get a grip

Anyway, glad you got things sorted OP

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 23:30

don't agree*

AmIthatsummery · 29/07/2015 23:31

Exit I felt the same when I saw the other one on the thread.

I can't even type the NN, as it includes my rage inducing word

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 23:36

You do realise that an opinion is a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge - so what exactly are you getting at? That's right...nothing.

kali110 · 30/07/2015 00:51

Yes lets assume everyone can just pay for two taxi trips shall we?
So what if op had her drive done, sometimes they have to be done so people save for them. Sonetimes people such as gp help out by paying childcare fees as its hard living paycheck to paycheck!
Not everyone can just afford to suddenly haveto have money taken out of their budget for taxi trips!

Some people also don't live near train stations etc
Did you miss the part where op said she was pg, breathless and iron deficient?
Being iron deficient is horrendous without being pregnant also, but no op is being unreasonable to want to use her own car to pick her own child up.

Op ignore the really ignorant responses on here.
If that had happened to me i would have been ringing in the morning getting her towed!
Fucking ignorant parking in front of someones drive.
Imagine if there had been an emergency??
Clearly the traffic warden thought she was in the wrong too!
Really hope you get your other problems sorted out too, not everyone on this site are smug unpleasant people xxk
